We have developed a software package for rock mechanical analysis with multipole array sonic logs. This advanced data processing method and software have been applied to the Tahe oilfield in Northern West China to provide guidance to acid hydraulic fracturing design and evaluation. In this paper, we present the field examples of such data processing and applications to demonstrate the validity and advantages of our method and software package.展开更多

The analysis is based on field recordings and other ethnography collected by the author in 2006-2011. The music of the contemporary Arab-Anglican churches in Israel comprises different styles, which might be decoded as indices of group identity, and transmits different signifiers of belonging to diverse branches of the contemporary world Anglican tradition. A remarkable feature of this Christian community is the ongoing shift of subaltern identities when their most "Western" component--association with a particular sub-division of the Church--receives its musical expression by means of "local motif', that is, the tunes associated with regional repertories. The dynamics of ethno-religious identity of Arab-Anglicans in Israel manifests itself through several tendencies, such as ecumenical tendency and some other trends. Though the study is situated in the context of an interdisciplinary academic discourse, music is the main text addressed. "Reading" this music allowed the author to uncover tenets, trends, and interrelations within the communities under study.展开更多

The common idea is that museum pedagogy as a word creates easily an image of dusty, silent, and serious moment when the audience is forced to follow a lecture or a guided tour The author's research questions are: (I) Museum as an institution--what are the limits and possibilities to create highlights for audience work? (2) How to look and talk about art for different audiences--also for non-visitors? And (3) How can museum combine the knowledge of results and new technology to create more interesting approach for its audiences? Participants of the author's research are teachers, students, senior citizens, and colleagues from other museums. Besides the literature the author uses mixed methods by combining visitor questionnaires (made during last ten years) and qualitative research made by narrative methods. Interviews have been made by H4 recorder. The qualitative analysis is going to be made by Atlas.ti. The results will finally be analyzed in 2014. Until now, it has become clear that museum experience mostly starts from the web pages. What can we offer, how to give value to our museum audience?展开更多

The preservation of large industrial sites in situ is rarely an option. Alternatively, an industrial site can be subjected to documentation, in order to achieve some forms of preservation by record. Preferably, industrial sites are best understood while in operation. Practical and methodological considerations in choosing adequate approaches to process recording, as well as the experience of documenting both a living industrial heritage in the form of a mining site in operation and an abandoned mining site in decay are discussed with reference to a pragmatic approach to documentation of industrial sites.展开更多

Contemporary audio media do not meet the requirements of high-fidelity recording since they do not insufficiently utilize the bandwidth for D/A conversion and sufficient word length. This paper deals with the values of these parameters in high-fidelity recording. The paper presents the results of a research into characteristics of faithful and high-fidelity audio recording considering the frequency range, signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range.展开更多

Most language educators, particularly those teaching foreign languages tend to use lesson review sheets, dialogue practice, drills on grammar, audio tapes or text recordings. Educators also make use of media to enhance learning while a few language instructors use graded-conversations. Thus, this paper explores ways in which graded-conversations impact language learning. This paper shows how using graded-conversations in a Swahili language classroom enhanced language learning and encouraged students to collaborate in and outside the classroom. More specifically, the findings indicate that while graded-conversations motivated students to communicate with each other beyond classroom and use social media to help each other study, assignments shape the type and quality of students' collaboration. Implications for teaching are presented.展开更多

To deal with this issue, this paperintegrates the signal denoising method as the optimization and achieves better performance.展开更多

It is shown that the extraction of ENF components from audio recordings is realizable by applying a parametric approach based on an AR (autoregressive) model. The proposed method is compared to the existing STFT (short-time Fourier transform) based ENF extraction method. Experimental results from recorded electrical grid signals and recorded audio signals show that the proposed approach can improve the time resolution in the extracted ENF fluctuations and improve the detection of tampering with short alterations in longer audio recordings.展开更多

Idols and B-boys stages are fun, touching, and fantastic. Today, South Korean students are excited and enthusiastic about their colorful dance moves. The study is about creative educational methods that use K-pop music videos to learn the proverbs and old words that our ancestors learned to keep in mind and teach. K-pop lyrics are a rich reflection of the experiences of life and the world in which people are living today. Accordingly, this study can present new teaching and learning method examples that are used in class related to the old language associated with K-pop lyrics and can also introduce interesting class materials.展开更多

During the course of their sophomore year, 17 students participated and each student held two to seven individual reading sessions, to which they brought a self-selected children's picture storybook or children's novel they had finished reading on their own and orally read it to the researcher. Their oral reading and the discussion of each book with the researcher were audio recorded. To gain insight into the reading progress, these oral data were categorized and analyzed in terms of mispronunciation patterns, misunderstanding of vocabulary, misinterpretation of sentence or passage, and researcher's guidance. General findings of the 17 participants were presented in three categories: (1) vocabulary acquisition, (2) common comprehension problems, and (3) common pronunciation problems. Further analysis of two motivated students who read five to seven books revealed that (1) these two EFL learners gradually developed conscious awareness of their own pronunciation and comprehension errors and (2) they progressively acquired better competence to apply the pronunciation tips and reading comprehension techniques provided by the researcher during previous sessions. These findings and corresponding implications are discussed and further research suggestions are made.展开更多

The raters' verbal reports concerning what they were thinking about while making their scoring decisions were audio-recorded and collected during and immediately after each assessment. Post-scoring interviews were used as supplements to the probe of the scoring process. A qualitative analysis of the data showed that the raters tended to give weight to the content, to punish both grammar and pronunciation errors and to reward the use of impressive and uncommon words. Moreover, the whole decision-making process was proved to be cyclic in nature. A flow chart describing the cyclic process of hypothesis forming and testing was then proposed and discussed.展开更多

文摘Multipole array sonic logging tools have widely been employed in Chinese oilfields in recent years. We have developed a software package for rock mechanical analysis with multipole array sonic logs. This advanced data processing method and software have been applied to the Tahe oilfield in Northern West China to provide guidance to acid hydraulic fracturing design and evaluation. In this paper, we present the field examples of such data processing and applications to demonstrate the validity and advantages of our method and software package.
