Motifs of revulsion create complex bedding texture of the plo...This paper selects revulsion and its networking emotion: resentment and disgust as a generic form of novel studies and the subject of moral investigation. Motifs of revulsion create complex bedding texture of the plot, which introduces personality and inner visions of characters in the novel. It unifies the binding power of narrative history and informs readers various aspects of morality in the Victorian era, in addition, to present a lyrical tone of social ethics. The following analysis takes Eliot's Middlemarch as the base text. I shall explain the lexical meaning and textual discussion of revulsion, resentment and disgust spirally within its context, then illustrate with paranthetical examples and different idioms. Later arguments turn to what Eliot defines as faction of human duty in life, which is the nuanced requirement of a subject stands against himself or herself through the disposition of conscience as verdict. This disposition provides unlimited parallels for instinctive presence of internal feelings and thresholds that are constantly affecting moral understandings.展开更多

The nano probe micro parts or optical parts in nanometer range resolution and scratch was originally designed for on-machine measuring applications and one kind of contact type measuring probes was designed for miniaturized or microfactory system. It ideally should be of small size and able to measure surface topography in nanometer scale. A commercial capacitive displacement sensor was proposed. It was a new concept in nano probe systems which can measure the displacement of shaft driven by the variation of surface topography. The nano probe mainly consisted of three parts: a capacitive displacement sensor, a porous type air slide and a contact probe part with various tip radiuses. The porous type air slide assured the shaft slided smoothly with controllable normal force in mN scale and had high positioning accuracy. The probe part which was directly in contact with target surface, can be applied to micro/nanoscale scratching as well as the measurement of sample topography by a simple tip change.展开更多

This review aims to assess central venous catheterization from the perspectives of types of catheters, sites of insertion, and tech- niques. In emergency conditions, non-tunneled catheters are preferred because the technique for its insertion is not complicated and less time-consuming. The size of catheter depends on the purpose of catheterization. For example, a large bore catheter is needed for rapid infusion. The ideal catheterization site should bear fewer thromboses, lower infectious rate, and fewer mechanical complications. Thus the femoral vein should be avoided due to a high rate of colonization and thrombosis while the subclavian vein seems to exhibit fewer infectious complications compared with other sites. It was proved that structures with certain features ten...For the problem posed by closely spaced modes, this paper defined the MCC (modal correlation criterion) to measure the degree of correlation between close modes. It was proved that structures with certain features tend to have closely clustered modes and the corresponding mode shapes highly correlated. With this understanding, the closed-form expressions for controllability and observability Grammians were adopted to analyze the impacts of actuator/sensor placement on the controllability/observability of highly correlated close modes. On this basis, the problem of actuator/sensor placement, when the optimization criterion is based on modal controllability/observability, was simplified. Moreover, the dimension of the control/measurement vector in independent modal space control for highly correlated close modes was proved to have the potential to be reduced, therefore fewer actuators and sensors were required in this dimension-reduced control strategy. Finally, the desirable vibration suppression for an example structure showed that the theory and methods of this paper were accurate and effective.展开更多
