[Method] Soil samples were col ected in depth at 0-20 and 20-40 cm from the sites in or out of tree canopy scope in jujube orchards with 3, 5 and 7 plan-ning-years, to analyze contents of available N, P and K, organic matter, total N, salts, and trace elements, as wel as changes of nutritional elements. [Result] Avail-able boron, copper, iron, manganese, zinc and available potassium in soils of jujube orchards with 3, 5 and 7 years planting history reduced as planting year increased, which coincided with that in the soil of 20-40 cm. [Conclusion] Because trace ele-ments are never applied in southern Xinjiang, available B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn and available K would be consumed by tree root growth. Due to root distribution differ-ences and ploughing effects in fields, the contents of nutrients tend to be volatile in or out of tree canopy scope. Tree root in deeper soils absorbs more nutrients, and soil nutrients would decrease dramatical y if additional chemical fertilizers are not provided, leading to soil degradation.展开更多

Together with the data of macronutrients and chl.a from the same cruise, the relationship between cadmium and biological process was studied. The results showed that the concentrations of Cd in the surface water had a good relationship with chl.a and biologicl process was the important factor that influenced the distribution of dissolved Cd in the surface water. Linear relationship was found between dissolved Cd and phosphate in the surface water and the high ratio of Cd/P at the edge of ice shelf was most probably due to ice melting, vertical distribution of Cd was similar to those of macronutrient such as phosphate and was affected by decomposition of organic particals. The temporal change of dissolved Cd in upper layer was slight and tide probably had influence on the change.展开更多

Heme iron is absorbed by different mechanisms than non-heme iron, but despite considerable study over many years these mechanisms remain poorly understood. This review provides an overview of the importance of heme iron in the diet and discusses the two prevailing hypotheses of heme absorption; namely receptor mediated endocytosis of heme, and direct transport into the intestinal enterocyte by recently discovered heme transporters. A specific emphasis is placed on the questions surrounding the site of heme catabolism and the identity of the enzyme that performs this task. Additionally, we present the hypothesis that a non-heme iron transport protein may be required for heme iron absorption and discuss the experiences of our laboratory in examining this hypothesis.展开更多

Although the absorption of dietary iron (1-2 mg/d) is regulated tightly, it is just balanced with losses. Therefore, internal turnover of iron is essential to meet the requirements for erythropoiesis (20-30 mg/d). Increased iron requirements, limited external supply, and increased blood loss may lead to iron deficiency (ID) and iron-deficiency anemia. Hepcidin, which is made primarily in hepatocytes in response to liver iron levels, inflammation, hypoxia and anemia, is the main iron regulatory hormone. Once secreted into the circulation, hepcidin binds ferroportin on enterocytes and macrophages, which triggers its internalization and lysosomal degradation. Thus, in chronic inflammation, the excess of hepcidin decreases iron absorption and prevents iron recycling, which results in hypoferremia and iron-restricted erythropoiesis, despite normal iron stores (functional ID), and anemia of chronic disease (ACD), which can evolve to ACD plus true ID (ACD + ID). In contrast, low hepcidin expression may lead to iron overload, and vice versa. Laboratory tests provide evidence of iron depletion in the body, or reflect iron-deficient red cell production. The appropriate combination of these laboratory tests help to establish a correct diagnosis of ID status and anemia.展开更多

METHODS: This prospective study was conducted be- tween April 2010 and August 2011. Patients with vari- ous biliary disorders were included. Bile was aspirated by placing a single-use, 5F, standard sphincterotome catheter into the bile duct before the injection of con- trast agent during endoscopic retrograde cholangio- pancreaticography (ERCP). Bile specimens were trans- ported to the microbiology laboratory in blood culture bottles within an anaerobic transport system. Bacteria were cultured and identified according to the standard protocol used in our clinical microbiology laboratory. The susceptibilities of the organisms recovered were identified using antimicrobial disks, chosen according tothe initial gram stain of the positive cultures RESULTS: Ninety-one patients (27% male, mean age 53.7 4- 17.5 years, range: 17-86 years) were included in the study. The main indication for ERCP was benign biliary disease in 79 patients and malignant disease in 12 patients. The bile culture was positive for bacterial growth in 46 out of 91 (50.5%) patients. The most frequently encountered organisms were Gram-negative bacteria including Escherich/a coli (28.2%), Pseudo- monas (17.3%) and Stenotrophomonas rnaltophilia (15.2%). There were no significant differences between patients with malignant and benign disease (58% vs 49%, P = 0.474), patients with acute cholangitis and without acute cholangitis (52.9% vs 50%, P = 0.827), patients who were empirically administered antibiotics before intervention and not administered (51.4% vs 60.7%, P = 0.384), with regard to the bacteriobilia. We observed a large covering spectrum or low resistance to meropenem, amikacin and imipenem. CONCLUSION: We did not find a significant risk fac- tor for bacteriobilia in patients with biliary obstruction. A bile sample for microbiological analysis may become a valuable diagnostic tool as it leads to more accurate selection of antibiotics for the treatment of cholangitis.展开更多

The available contents of Fe and Mn in the rhizosphere wereraised by addition of manure or chemical fertilizer combined with manure, but those of Cu and Zn werehardly affected, which might be an important reason why manure addition could improve the Fe and Mnnutrition status of plants. Several possible mechanisms for the increase of the availabilities of Fe and Mn inthe rhizosphere due to manuring are discussed as well.展开更多

Ready-to-drink beverage as a vehicle for fortification is easy to administer, more consistent and least obstructive, because it can be consumed without further processing/cooking. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fortified beverage on the improving of iron status and school performance test of schoolchildren. About 5,000 schoolchildren aged 6-12 years old from 19 schools in Quirino province, Philippines were invited to participate in the study. Samples of 4,875 children with parental consent were screened for hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels. About 4,495 children had complete participation in the school performance test, which were developed and administered by school supervisors. Children were fed 200 mL ready-to-drink juice fortified with iron, zinc, lysine, vitamins A and C for 120 d. The beverage was delivered through the baseline. At end of the intervention, only 1,050 children had complete data set and the anemia rate reduced from 100% to 60%. Iron deficiency has increased insignificantly from 3.6% to 4.5%. Mean percentage of test scores increased significantly between base and end of the study: English (40% to 60%), math (35% to 58%) and science (32% to 58%). In conclusion, consumption of 200 mL fortified juice drink had contributed to the reduction of anemia and increased tests scores of children.展开更多

The composition and proportio...Farmers may not be conscious for their farmland's nutrients, soil organic matter, water and air because they simply concerned only for their labor availability and soil fertility losses. The composition and proportion of these components greatly influence soil physical properties, including texture, structure and porosity, the fraction of pore space in a soil. The soil of this farmland must be able to supply adequate amount of plant nutrients, in forms which can be absorbed by the crop, within its lifespan. Deficiencies or imbalances in the supply of any of essential elements can compromise growth, affecting root development, cell division, crop quality, crop yield and resistance to disease and drought. This study was conducted to fill this knowledge gap in order to develop economically vital and environmentally accepted nutrient management strategies for the use of soils in agricultural lands. The objective of this study is to assess the elemental contents and concentration of soil samples collected from farmlands of "Yebrage" using neutron activation analysis (NAA) techniques regardless of oxidation state, chemical form or physical locations. NAA is used to determine the elemental composition and concentrations present in a soil. The macro/micronutrient and organic matter deficiencies have been verified in agricultural soils through increased use of soil testing and plant analysis. The challenge for agriculture over the coming decades will meet the world's increasing demands for food in a sustainable way. Current issues and future challenges point out that as long as agriculture remains a soil based industry, major decreases in productivity likely to be attained ensuring that plants do not have adequate and balanced supply of nutrients.展开更多

There are many mechanisms of interactions between P and micronutrients and changes in pH values caused by phosphate fertilization is one of them. These interactions between nutrients might be more pronounced under a no-tillage system which produces stratification and accumulation of few mobile nutrients as P in the surface horizons due to the lack of soil removement. The objectives of this study were: (1) to evaluate the effect of P concentration on the availability ofCu, Zn, Fe and Mn in soil under no-tillage system; (2) to produce maps of nutrients availability and to analyze whether an interaction between nutrients spatial distribution exists. The study was carried out in Parana, province of Entre Rios, in a soil classified as Vertic Argiudol in two consecutive growing seasons (2006 and 2007). A plot of 1 (one) hectare under no-tillage system with a double-cropped wheat-soybean rotation in sequence (soybean sowing after wheat harvest) was sampled by the grid methods. The results of this study suggest which tillage regime and phosphate fertilization increased P levels in superficial horizons and this produced a negative relationship between micronutrients and P. Regarding the nutrients map distributions, the negative interaction between P and micronutrients was clearly seen in the case ofFe_ Mn and Zn.展开更多

A bile sample for microbiological analysis may become a valuable diagnostic tool as it leads to more accurate selection of antibiotics for the treatment of cholangitis.
文摘Investigations were carried out on the micronutrient contents,of major citrus orchard soils (involving seven soil great groups in 8 provinces and an autonomous region of southern China),and an evaluation on the abundance and deficiency of available micronutrients in these soils was made in this paper. In southern China, citrus orchard soils derived from sandstone, sandy shale,Quaternary red clay, diluvial deposit, granite gneiss and neritic deposit were deficient in available Mo and B and low in Zn.Those developed on purple sandy shale, limestone and slope deposit were all in short supply of available Zn,B and Mo.Coastal solonchak was fairly abundant in B,but its available Fe,Zn and Mo contents were rather low.
文摘A rhizobox system was used to determine the distribution of micronutrients (Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn) acrossthe rhmosphere of wheat (Triticum aestivum). The available contents of Fe and Mn in the rhizosphere wereraised by addition of manure or chemical fertilizer combined with manure, but those of Cu and Zn werehardly affected, which might be an important reason why manure addition could improve the Fe and Mnnutrition status of plants. Several possible mechanisms for the increase of the availabilities of Fe and Mn inthe rhizosphere due to manuring are discussed as well.
文摘Fortifying commonly consumed foods and beverages offers a great opportunity of filling the nutrient gap between actual and the needed nutrient intakes of young children. In conclusion, consumption of 200 mL fortified juice drink had contributed to the reduction of anemia and increased tests scores of children.
文摘Farmers may not be conscious for their farmland's nutrients, soil organic matter, water and air because they simply concerned only for their labor availability and soil fertility losses. Current issues and future challenges point out that as long as agriculture remains a soil based industry, major decreases in productivity likely to be attained ensuring that plants do not have adequate and balanced supply of nutrients.
文摘There are interactions between phosphorus (P) and some micronutrients which can affect their availability if P is applied as a fertilizer in high concentrations. Regarding the nutrients map distributions, the negative interaction between P and micronutrients was clearly seen in the case ofFe_ Mn and Zn.
