Diagnosis of CFS was determined by conventional medicine criteria(CDC criteria for CFS), physical examination, and routine laboratory tests. TCM diagnosis of CFS relied on Four Examination Methods and Eight Principal Patterns. They were diagnosed as Ganyu Qizhi (liver and qi stagnation) and Pixu Qiruo (spleen and qi deficiency). The treatment method is to disperse the liver and facilitate qi, rehabilitate the spleen and strengthen qi (Shugan Liqi, Jianpi Yiqi). The result of the treatment indicated that the total effective rate was 100% in terms of fatigue, difficulty concentrating, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, joint aches, feverishness, rapid pulse, insomnia, depression, irregular menses, abdominal cramps, and night sweats. The percentages of specific symptoms of CFS in the patients were comparable to the conventional medical record (Table 1).展开更多

Methods Seventy-two cases were randomly divided into 2 groups of acupuncture-cupping group (37 cases) and prednisone group (35 cases). In acupuncture-cupping group, Jiaji points (夹脊 EX-B 2) of the level of T1–L5 were applied with coiling dragon needling once a day, combining with moving cupping on back once every two days. In prednisone group, prednisone tablets of 10 mg were orally taken at 8:00 am everyday. Seven days were counted as one treatment course, and 2 courses were carried on totally. FS-14 scale and BELL’s CFS integral table were applied to evaluate the fatigue degree of patients before and after the treatment, and the therapeutic effects of both groups were compared. Results After one course of treatment, the BELL’s scores of both groups were obviously improved (both P0.01), but there was no significant difference between the 2 groups (P0.05); after 2 courses of treatment, the BELL’s score in acupuncture-cupping group improved more obviously than that of the prednisone group (P0.05), and the total effective rate of 91.9% (34/37) in acupuncture-cupping group was superior to that of 71.4% (25/35) in prednisone group (P0.05). Conclusion The therapeutic effect of chronic fatigue syndrome treated with coiling dragon needling and moving cupping on back is positive, which is superior to that of prednisone with oral administration.展开更多

Methods: The rats were randomly divided into control group, model group, and electroacupuncture group. Model and electroacupuncture groups were forced to swim in cold water to make CFS model, while rats in electroacupuncture group were treated with electroacupuncture treatment at the same time. Electroacupuncture group was given at Baihui(GV 20) and Zusanli(ST 36). Evaluation of the model was processed according to the behavior changes of the rats. Hypothalamic, pituitary, and adrenal were weighted to calculate HPA index. CRH mRNA in hypothalamic was measured by fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (FQPCR). Results: The model rats had behavior changes, and both physical and mental fatigue was observed. HPA index raised and expression of CRH mRNA in hypothalamus increased in CFS rats. After electroacupuncture treatment, the physical and mental fatigue was improved, and the hypothalamic index and CRH mRNA decreased significantly, while the pituitary and adrenal index only had little decrease. Conclusion: Cold water swim press could mimic the pathogenesis and make similar manifestations in rats with the common clinical symptoms. CFS has close relationship with increase of HPA index and CRH mRNA expression. Electroacupuncture can regulate the function of HPA axis to deal with CFS.展开更多

Method: Thirty CFS cases were treated in the treatment group, by applying one-thumb pushing, rolling and pressing-kneading manipulations along the Governor Vessel, Bladder and Yangming Meridians. The intended major points include Fengfu (GV 16), Yaoyangguan (GV 3), Xinshu (BL 15), Pishu (BL 20), Ganshu (BL 18), Hegu (LI 4) and Taixi (KI 3). The treatment was done once every other day; 10 times constitute a course of treatment. Another 30 healthy cases were selected in the control group, without any intervention. The sleep quality and mental state in the two groups were evaluated by PSQI, HAMA and HAMD. In addition, the pre-treatment and post-treatment score changes were observed. Results: Before treatment, the total score of PSQI, sleep quality, time of falling asleep, sleep efficiency, sleep disorder, daytime functional impairment, and scores of HAMD and HAMA in treatment group were all substantially higher than the control group (P〈0.01). After 10 tuina treatments, the total score of PSQI, time of falling asleep, sleep disorder and daytime flmctional impairment as well as scores of HAMD and HAMA in treatment group were significantly changed, compared with before treatment, P〈0.05. Conclusion: Those with CFS may present with sleep disorder and mental or psychological abnormality, tuina can improve their sleep quality and adjust their mental conditions.
文摘Objective: To assess the clinical efficacy of abdominal acupuncture for subhealth insomnia. Methods: Eighty-two cases of subhealth insomnia were randomly divided into an observation group (41 cases) and a control group (41 cases). The control group was treated with conventional acupuncture. The observation group was treated with Bo's abdominal acupuncture on the basis of conventional acupuncture. Six treatments constituted one treatment course. The measuring scale of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome for subhealth state (MSSSHS) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) scores were compared between the two groups after two courses, to estimate the efficacy of abdominal acupuncture for subhealth insomnia. Results: One case dropped out from the observation group, while 2 cases dropped out from the control group. The MSSSHS score and PSQI score both declined after the treatment in the two groups (all P〈0.05). The MSSSHS and PSQI scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (both P〈0.05). Conclusion: The abdominal acupuncture is effective for subhealth insomnia, and it can enhance the effect of conventional acupuncture.
文摘Through clinical practice over the last decade, , I have been using Baihui (GV 20) and Sishencong (Ex-HN 1) for treating various diseases or symptoms. It is now reported as follows.
文摘In late November 2006, I was honored to participate in the Advanced Class on the Inheritance of Shanghai Senior TCM Doctors' Academic Experience, and studied under Professor CHEN Han-ping for 3 years. Now I introduced some of my clinical experience on acupuncture as follows.
文摘Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of moving cupping on the back for patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)-related sleep disorders. Methods: A total of 60 patients with CFS-related sleep disorders were randomized into a control group and an observation group, with 30 cases in each group. The control group was treated with oral administration of fluoxetine hydrochloride capsule. The observation group was treated with moving cupping on the back, once every other day. The efficacy was observed after 4 weeks of treatment. The fatigue scale-14 (FS-14) and Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) were assessed before and after the treatment to evaluate the clinical efficacy. Results: The total effective rate was 93.3% in the observation group, and 73.3% in the control group. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the improvement of physical fatigue value, mental fatigue value, and the total score of FS-14 in the observation group were statistically different from those in the control group (all P<0.05). The scores of subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, habitual sleep efficiency, use of sleeping medication, daytime dysfunction of PSQI and the total score in the observation group were improved more significantly than those in the control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion: Moving cupping on the back can significantly improve sleep disorders in CFS patients, and it has a better curative effect than oral fluoxetine hydrochloride capsules.
文摘Objective: To observe the effect of tuina plus moxibustion in treating chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Methods: Sixty patients diagnosed with CFS were randomized into two groups, 30 cases in the treatment group were given tuina and thunder-fire moxibustion, and 30 in the control group were given ordinary acupuncture treatment. The clinical effects were compared after 4-week treatment. Results: The recovery rate and total effective rate were 36.7% and 93.3% respectively in the treatment group, versus 16.7% and 76.7% in the control group, and the differences between the two groups in recovery rate and total effective rate were statistically significant (P〈0.01). Conclusion: of the treatment of tuina and thunder-fire moxibustion has better therapeutic effect than the ordinary acupuncture in treating CFS.

文摘Objective: To observe the clinical effect of acupuncture in treating chronic fatigue syndrome and its effect on anxiety. Methods: Ninety patients who accord with the inclusion criteria were divided into 2 groups, 45 patients in the treatment group received acupuncture therapy, and 45 patients in the control group received medicine therapy. The anxiety state was evaluated with Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) before and after treatments in the two groups. Results: SAS scores of the CFS patients in the two groups decreased after treatment (P〈0.01). There was no statistical difference of the SAS score between the two groups (P〉0.05). Conclusion: Both acupuncture and medicine treatments could improve the anxiety symptoms of CFS patient.
文摘Objective: To investigate the mechanism of electroacupuncturein treating chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS) in term of the neuro-endocrine system by observing the regulative effect of EA on hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal index (HPA index) and corticotropin releasing hormone mRNA (CRH mRNA) in CFS model rats. Electroacupuncture can regulate the function of HPA axis to deal with CFS.
