Since the 1960 s, mining science and technology in China has experienced two technical innovations, i.e.the ‘‘Masonry Beam Theory(MBT)" and ‘‘Transfer Rock Beam Theory(TRBT)". Based on those theories, the conventional mining method(being called the 121 mining method) was established, consisting of excavating two tunnels with a pillar left for mining a working panel. However, with increasing mining depth,engineering geological disasters in the underground caverns have been frequently encountered. In addition, the use of the coal-pillar mining results in a large amount of coal resources unexploited. In order to address the problems above, the ‘‘Roof Cut Short-Arm Beam Theory(RCSBT), being called the 110 mining method)" was proposed by He Manchao in 2008. The 110 mining method features the mining of one coal seam panel, excavating necessarily only one roadway tunnel and leaving no pillars. Realization of the 110 mining method includes the following steps:(1) directional pre-splitting roof cutting,(2) supporting the roof by using high Constant Resistance Large Deformation bolt/cable(CRLD), and(3) blocking gangue by hydraulic props. This paper presents an overview of the principles, techniques and application of the 110 mining method. Special emphasis is placed on the numerical simulation of the geostress distribution found in the mining panel using the 110 method compared to that of the 121 method. In addition, the stress distribution on the ‘‘short beam" left by the roof cutting when performing the 110 method was also investigated using both numerical simulation and theoretical formulation. 展开更多

Driven by a new round of technological and industrial revolution,China’s manufacturing industry is heading towards green,intelligent,service-based and customized development.In light of the new technological revolution and evolving industrial development model,we need to revise and breathe new life into the traditional industrialization theory.When assessing a country’s industrial development,we should use the level of industrial technology,instead of the proportion of primary,secondary and tertiary industries,as the key criterion.In addition,the level of modern industrial development should be determined according to the degree of digital,network-based,and smart features.The new industrialization theory should employ knowledge-intensive complex labor to replace simple labor as the labor factor input in the production function,and include data as a new factor of production in the analytical framework.We should also define natural resources and the environment and greenhouse gas emissions as hard constraints of the production function.In the comparison of smart,service-based and green development levels of China’s,the US’and Japan’s manufacturing sectors,our results suggest that China lags far behind developed countries in terms of the level of industrial development.During the 14th Five-Year Plan period,China’s manufacturing industry should shift from quantitative expansion to digital and smart innovations and applications,modernize the industrial system,promote industrial integration,and broaden its horizon from domestic regional planning to the global value chain. 展开更多

An Innovative Process to Improve Turbidity and Organics Removal by BAC Filters

The turbidity criterion for the product water of a WTP according to the State Project ‘863’ on the safeguard technology of drinking water in the southern areas of China is 0.1 NTU. The turbidity removal in the activated carbon filter was analyzed in a pilot-scale test and an innovative technology to improve the turbidity removal in a biologically activated carbon (BAC) filter was put forward in order to meet the criterion. Experimental results showed that the enhanced filtration by adding polymerized aluminium chloride (PAC) into the BAC filter was quite effective in turbidity control. The effluent turbidity was kept at a stable level (mean) of 0.033 NTU with a high removal of about 80% for influent turbidity of 0.110-0.240 NTU with an addition of PAC at 0.05 mg L -1, meeting the requirement for filtrate turbidity equal to or less than 0.1NTUC totally. In addition, the larger the PAC dosage was, the lower the effluent turbidity was. However, further improvement of turbidity removal was not obvious for PAC dosages beyond 0.10 mg L -1, and an optimal PAC dosage in the range of 0.]05-0.10 mg L -1 was proposed. 展开更多

The functional and logical structures of EDSTRC as well as its sub-systems are mainly designed, and its development and application environment are simply introduced. EDSTRC is consisted of eight main parts, i.e. data base (DB), knowledge base (KB), model base (MB), approach base (AB), graph base (GB), result base (RB), man-compute system (MCS), and problem-solved system (PSS). Through application of practical examples, it is proved that the EDSTRC’s prototype design is correct, its man-computer interface is amicable, and its applicable prospect is wider. 展开更多

Impact Assessment of Technology Change on Durum Wheat Productivity: A Cross Sectional Analysis in Central Semi-arid Tunisia

The enhancement of wheat yield in Tunisia becomes a must for policy makers who need to reduce the importations of this commodity. In this context, the "Food Security in Arab Countries" project has been established in order to transfer technological innovations that improve irrigated wheat productivity. As a pilot area, this project is being implemented in Chebika (Central Tunisia) region, where in the last two years a new technological package of durum wheat production has been tested by many farmers of the region. The objective of this study is to identify the sources of output gains between farmers participating in the project trials and farmer's using conventional techniques. Tornqvist-Thiel index was used for the identification of the output gains generated by the technology package. Data used for the analysis were collected from 60 participating farmers during 2011-2012 cropping season, and 110 non-participating farmers. Results show that average production value differential between participating and non-participating farmers is 48.4%. This value is composed of 9.3% gain generated from global factor productivity and 39.1% from the increase of the inputs use. It also indicates the relative importance of inputs contributing to the global factor productivity difference between enhanced technological package and conventional practices in the region. These results are valuable for policy makers since they can be used to focus on main factors affecting the improvement of irrigated wheat productivity in Central Tunisia. Encouraging the adoption of the new technological package is then highly recommended. 展开更多

Due to the entry of the Chinese economy into the new normal,the accelerated substitution of old energy by new energy and rigid restrictions composed of low carbon and environmental protection requirements, the oil demand of China will continue to increase overall, but the growth will obviously slow down. At the same time, the newly-increased production capacity in Shandong and coastal region will continuously expand, the supply and demand contradiction will intensify, and the structural excess production capacity of the oil refining industry of China will be prominent. Based on an explorative embedded single-case study, this paper analyzes its import-based innovation process, identifies characteristics of manifestation of organizational inertia's effects, and reveals organizational learning's effects on firms" organizational inertia. The case selected is the successful practice about typical technology import of internal combustion locomotive, electric locomotive, and diesel engine, owned by Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Ltd Company of CRRC. Based on analysis, it can be found that firms'organizational inertia exhibits primarily negative effects, positive effects and a combination of positive and negative effects in different stages of imitative, improved and indigenous innovation respectively. Further analysis of typical events shows that explorative learning mitigates organizational inertia's negative effects, while exploitative learning enhances its positive effects. From the angle of organizational inertia's effects, this paper deepens understanding on the mechanism of transition from technology importation to indigenous innovation, and provides inspirations for late-coming firms to break the vieious cycle where technology importation leads to more backwardness.. 展开更多
