In his famous lecture, he told us that the most powerful revolutionary force in the world today is science, science is essentially progressive, and the scientific culture is also a newer one. So Snow, after excluding scientific culture from the whole culture, calls the rest of the whole culture traditional culture. In his opinion, science is more important than humanities. All these ideas are faithfully reflected in his earlier literary work The Masters (1972b). Snow's favor toward men of sciences in the novel is self-evident. "The Masters, therefore, may be considered as a political science novel rather than as a political novel". It was the Industrial Revolution which created our sensibility展开更多

Under this background, how to apply the concept of new curriculum reform guide the reform of college English teaching is an important task. Therefore, it is very important to study the teaching strategies of college English teaching. Culture and language are complementary and inseparable, which requires us to carry out cultural teaching during English teaching process. In this paper, we focus on the strategy of integrating enterprise cultures into college English teaching, and discuss several cultural teaching problems in college English class. As a language required course, English not only strengthen the learners’ language skills, but also enhance humanistic quality of students. However, current college English teaching takes the examination as the goal, which cannot meet the needs of the learner’s professional stuff. We propose the strategy of integrating the professional background into English teaching, in order to improve the students’ ability of comprehensive application of English and the professional quality.展开更多

A interpreting his views on the development of science and their commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the publication of the original version of Kuhn's epoch-making book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (henceforth: SSR) should thus provide a thorough reflection on this thesis. However, this thesis is not easy to interpret. It is not only complex in itself but has also undergone a historical development--in Kuhn's own hands and in those of his interpreters. In this article, I sort out the different interpretations of it, in particular, in Part A. In Part B, I demonstrate their epistemological consequences. Under closer scrutiny, Kuhn's incommensurability-thesis contains several sub-theses Different senses of "incommensurability" thus need to be distinguished. However, the way in which those distinctions are drawn in Kuhn-scholarship differs. In paragraph I of Part A, I provide an overview of the reception of the incommensurability-thesis in Kuhn-scholarship. In Paragraph II, I trace its development in Kuhn's later writings: given its importance and contested nature, Kuhn later clarifies his original thesis. Those later clarifications' main function consists in domesticating the most radically relativistic aspects his original incommensurability-thesis had, at least, in the eyes of his interpreters. The upshot of Part A (Paragraphs I and II) is to provide a coherent interpretation of Kuhn's incommensurability-thesis. To that end, I distinguish in line with much of Kuhn-scholarship a semantic from a methodological sense of incommensurability. In part B, the question is raised: What sort of epistemological consequences follow from both senses of incommensurability? In particular, what consequences follow for the issues of reference, subjectivity (objectivity), pluralism, and realism? The underlying question is to what extent Kuhnian incommensurability caters to a relativistic understanding of those issues. This question is answered in Paragraph Ill with the help of the analyses of a currently leading Kuhn-scholar, C. H. Sankey. His answers are taken as a vantage point for my concluding evaluation of the consequences of Kuhnian incommensurability in Paragraph IV.展开更多

In this context, information literacy has been an important indicator for assessing a talent's comprehensive quality. With creativity, nanotechnology looks for increasingly smaller spaces in nature to meet the needs and interests of the individuals and of the society. Considering that the researches aim to create techniques to move and combine atoms and molecules, a question arises, how will these atoms and molecules behave in the new arrangement. This is the great challenge and this article attempts to bring some benefits to the subiect. It also intends to bring the human sciences, particularly law, to the scenery of this scientific revolution. The lack of regulatory frameworks does not allow humans to search and produce anything without limits. Thus, human rights should be considered an ethical foundation for nanotechnology discoveries, as they represent the "rights" that, at least, humans should have respected.展开更多

Yet, at the same time, he was also questioned by some scholars who argued that Emerson remained aloof and indifferent to both politics and reforms. Based on analyzing two essential aspects of Emerson's views on reform, this paper points out that Emerson's views on reform are of historical importance; and his views can also provide realistic reference and guidance to the current social reform in China.展开更多

Only through a scientific critique of these three main components could a new philosophy develop. That is the cultural logic of Marx's philosophical revolution, which emerged and developed through a critique of historiography, socialism and political economy, rather than in an isolated framework of traditional philosophy. The cultural logic of Marx's philosophical revolution offers two lessons for us in developing Marxist philosophy in China. First, to fail to understand and study Marxism as a whole and conduct dialogue and interaction across all fields of Marxism would be a deviation from the cultural logic of Marx's philosophical revolution and the path of development of Marxist philosophy. Second, the core task of Marxist philosophical studies is the Sinicization of Marxist philosophy in China. This involves making methodological summaries of contemporary scientific findings and reflecting upon the most important issues of Chinese-style socialism, providing at the philosophical level and from the perspective of world history a scientific interpretation of the process, mechanisms, characteristics, patterns and trends of contemporary Chinese social development that will yield a guide for practice.展开更多

It calls for not only a green revolution in our ways of production and ways of life, but also a restructuring of the "knowledge-oriented" model of intellectual production that has served as bedrock to support the single-minded mentality of developmentalism. One of the possible routes to arrive at a new Weltanschauung is what I have termed as the "living wisdom" that can help to explicate the inexplicables by existing social theories. I argue in this paper that the Chinese living wisdom offers a nutshell view of how traditional resources can be made accessible for us to respond to current unprecedented chaJJenges facing htunamty. It is as much a best oppommky in the "metropolitan moment" for a "China's representation" as for other civilizations, cultures and nations, such as the "eco--social time" in primitive societies, the ancient European philosophies on ontology and cosmology, and the rejection of sagehood and intellect by Zhuangzi.展开更多
