To conform to the college English teaching reform from English for General Purposes (EGP) to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in the vital transfer era, the Foreign Language Department of Second Military Medical Un...To conform to the college English teaching reform from English for General Purposes (EGP) to English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in the vital transfer era, the Foreign Language Department of Second Military Medical University (SMMU) launched an English for Medical Academic Purpose (EMAP) curriculum with English Forum on Medical Humanities (EFMH), a project-based teaching practice. Based on Rogers' learner-centered humanistic teaching approach which emphasizes students' involvement and experiences in learning, EFMH puts students and their practice in a central place. After four-year exploration and operation, the Forum has developed from a small-scaled embryo into an internationalized, standardized and professionalized event, having produced fruitful outcomes. It is expected that the success of EFMH will provide inspiring experiences and enlightenments for higher medical education in terms of academic English teaching and teachers' responsibilities to foster high-quality medical students.展开更多

This paper, using a comparative analysis of the tex...A multi-genre and interdisciplinary analysis that compares Sam Shepard's classic, Buried Child (1978), to Mary Shelley's Gothic thriller, Frankenstein (2004). This paper, using a comparative analysis of the texts (a play versus a novel), argues that Shepard follows Shelley's theme and characters in order to frame and create his own even-more modern "Prometheus", a premise that Shelley borrows to center her novel and to establish the antagonistic origins of her monster-man. Shepard's splintered individuals all share a postmodern disillusionment, and as Shelley's novel establishes, it is a conflict brought on by an absent or emotionally-removed mother and a brutal father who denies or disavows the "child" he considers an abomination. Other themes that Shelley and Shepard's works have in common include infanticide, incest, a life built on lies, patricide, and an unnatural relationship with Nature.展开更多

The author advocates that the academic direction should maintain highly consistent with the reality of China, as well as the academic practice. Herein, we present a facile method for the preparation of photo-luminescent CQDs using humins as the carbon precursor...The unique properties of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) make them promising materials in many ?elds. Herein, we present a facile method for the preparation of photo-luminescent CQDs using humins as the carbon precursor for the purpose of providing a high value-added solution for this “biomass conversion process waste”. The structure of the CQDs was analyzed, and the effects of reaction temperature and time on the CQDs’ ?uorescence were investigated. The results showed that humins were effectively carbonized during the reaction. The ?uorescence intensity of humin-based CQDs initially increased with reaction temperature and time, and subsequently decreased beyond 200℃ and 4 h. Polyaromatic structures and hydrophilic groups such as O-H, C-O, -COOH and C==O groups exist in the CQDs. The humin-based CQDs have the dimension of 3~7 nm with an average size of about 5.5 nm. The highest emission intensity of blue/cyan ?uorescence light at 440 nm is achieved on the excitation with UV light at the wavelength of 330 nm.展开更多

As an important component in the construction of an innovative nation, the building of an innovation system and innovation capacity is as important in philosophy and social sciences as in their counterpart, the natural sciences; they are like the two wings of a bird or two wheels of a cart. Innovation in mainstream ideology research is of theoretical and practical significance to contemporary China, and constitutes a precondition for the establishment of an innovation system of Chinese philosophy and social sciences. Innovation in mainstream ideology research involves three important aspects. First, we should innovate mainstream ideology research in terms of the pattem of civilizations, that is, to grasp the historical continuity and cultural identity of mainstream ideology and oppose historical nihilism and revivalism. Second, we should adopt an inclusive approach to mainstream ideology research to bring in different perspectives and enrich the content of research, and to optimize its guiding role and overcome both ideological arrogance and ideological aphasia. And third, we must be open-minded in carrying out a comparative analysis of mainstream ideologies of other countries. In exchanges with and learning from other countries, we should protect the safety of mainstream Chinese ideology and avoid both self-contained isolationism and a blind worship of foreign things.
