The objective of this paper is to contribute to promote, in each EU country and elsewhere, the process of harmonisation of agricultural/biosystems engineering degree study programs, and student and graduate mobility within the EU, as well as between the EU and the USA. At present, in Europe, this harmonisation process is aided by the key results of the projects of USAEE-TN, ERABEE-TN and POMSEBES. USAEE developed some core curricula, to be used as benchmarks for European agricultural/biosystems engineering degree study programs, and a web-based database of these study programs. ERABEE promoted the transition from agricultural engineering to biosystems engineering and established the recognition procedures of new European study programs in biosystems engineering. The EU-US POMSEBES consortium built up a platform for exchange of experiences and ideas between the USA and the EU, aimed at: enhancing the quality and linkage of research and education; establishing appropriate policy oriented measures; promoting compatible degree study programs in biosystems engineering, within the EU as well as between the EU and the USA.展开更多

To improve analytical thinking skills among college students, a course on "bioethics" was introduced and offered in two consecutive semesters to undergraduate students for which 245 students registered at each semester. The course was taught in the form of 14 lecture and discussion sessions, each for 95 minutes based on the content of A Cross-Cultural Introduction to Bioethics (2006) edited by Darryl Macer, and reviewed a wide variety of ethical and bioethical issues. In the next semester, the students received a similar teaching content that was rearranged to reflect the 15 universal principles of bioethics and human rights covered in the Bioethics Core Curriculum (2008). Case studies were also added to each unit of the Core Curriculum with the support of the UNESCO's Asia Pacific Regional Office, Bangkok (Case Studies for Bioethics 2010). To evaluate the results of teaching and to compare the achieved objectives between the two groups of students, a short questionnaire was given to all students who finished the course and took up the final written examination. In the whole, 454 students (225 in group I and 229 in group 2) completed the course and took the final examination and 427 (218 in group 1 and 209 in group 2) responded to the questionnaire which inquired into their interest in the discussion of bioethical issues: why they believed they were important, and what they had learned through them. The results of the questionnaire have been examined and compared to evaluate the success of "bioethics" in stimulating the interest and thinking ability of the students and enriching their experience of a cross-cultural discussion over bioethical issues using universal principles as general guidance. The result of this examination was so impressive that from 2011 bioethics has been formalized into the reformed curriculum of our international school.展开更多

Many educators fail to integrate core course and entrepreneurial education. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the integration of management accounting course in entrepreneurship course will accomplish the objective of entrepreneurship education. This study is derived from the experience of entrepreneurial project course at Management Department of Ciputra University, Surabaya. This study uses an explorative approach to investigate the implementation of project-based learning (PBL) in management accounting course. The result shows variation of output. There are about 91% business can be implemented by business groups and about 33% target achieved. Several management accounting techniques are used in this study, such as balanced score card (BSC), activity-based costing (ABC), activity-based management (ABM), cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, and tactical decision making. This study found that by using management accounting techniques, student can run the business well especially when they have to make decision. This study strengthens the role of management accounting in business practices, and furthermore, this study proves that management accounting is beneficial for entrepreneurs who are still in the start-up business stage.展开更多

However, what specific content should be included in the second level discipline has become a very important issue. What should be taught to students or how can they adapt to the needs of the social market aroused a wide attention. For this case, the National Ministry of Education has given a clearly provision for economic statistics' core courses, but whether these main courses can reflect the actual needs and characteristics of economic statistics or not still needs some considerations and discussions. This article started from the angle of the studies on China and the U.S. Journals concerning economic statistics. Using text mining by R, a recent mainstream statistical analysis software, gives a comparative analysis on the contents of economic statistics for recent decades. We created wordcloud about the contents of core statistical journals by R which can help us visually examine the course of economic statistics discipline development for the comparative study. Besides, we drew a conclusion that there were significant differences between China and America's economic statistics, the main difference is the United States pay more attention to the exploration of new methods and be able to adapt to market demand, the development of China's economic statistics are still more traditional, it need a better understanding of the multi-disciplinary knowledge of education, such as Bayesian and dynamics. Another is that the curriculum of China's economic statistics are corrected for China's actual situation, a new training program pay more attention to students' practical ability and social practice. There are a lot of practical problems remain untouched or unsolved which need efforts of decades probably.展开更多

In 1996, China' s academic disciplines have been made an adjustment, " industrial economics" become the first place of secondary discipline which under the first discipline " Applied Economics " in the category of" economics" , has achieved the initial connection with international conventions in the disciplines set. However, in the study, research methods, main content, or in the theoretical basis and the theoretical system, there is a big difference between the Western industrial economics and the domestic industrial economics.展开更多

Some companies have decided to no longer outsource such services, managing more closely and assertively with a focus on cost reduction and delivery quality. At this point, there are many difficulties in the implementation of a structured maintenance, which results in generating effort, costs and delay in servicing internal customers. Currently, there are very few specialized courses in facility management in Brazil. The search for skills has become increasingly important taking into account increasingly competitive markets. The main objective of this article is to show the importance and the challenges of a good facility management, the impact on the Core business of the company and the risks of an implementation without well-defined processes.展开更多
