By analyzing these two translations, it is revealed that in terms of translation style, Feng Tang’s personal style overshadows the original’s charm;in language use, Feng Tang is keen on creation, even altering original words, while Zheng’s translation is elegant and implicit with precise and standardized wording. In terms of cultural literacy, Feng’s translation emphasizes personal cultural understanding and emotional experience;in translation accuracy, Zheng is more faithful in conveying the original’s mood and spirit. This research aims at helping translators in striking a balance between the “Truth-seeking-Utility-attaining evaluative model of continuum” in translation practice, thereby better conveying the original’s thoughts and emotions while meeting readers’ expectations and social demands.展开更多

In the field of translation, there are few studies on the English translation of the prophecies in it from the perspective of the translator’s behavior. Based on the translator behavior criticism, this paper classifies the prophecies in Hong Lou Meng into four categories with the help of the translation strategy of Aixelá’s Culture-Specific items, then analyzes the translator’s behavior hidden behind the English translation strategies of the versions translated by Yan Xianyi and Hawkes from both the in-translation and out-of-translation aspects, and then explores its social motivation. The final purpose is to show that the balance between “truth-seeking” and “utility-attaining” is the key to the English translation of the prophecies in Hong Lou Meng in the process of translation, and to provide some reference for Chinese classical literature works to “going global”.展开更多
