The concept that expresses vehicle velocity using only the driving wheel speed information with adjustable weight factors is described and an algorithm is proposed. The active contour method for image segmentation is a well known method for automatic detection of the cell contour. However, the application of this method on colon cell images was not effective. In this paper, the authors have proposed a new technique to reduce the analysis time needed to detect cells in a given image. This technique is based on the active contour method but now using a progressive division of the dimensions of the image to achieve convergence. The model proposed succeeded in detecting cells whose boundaries are not necessarily defined by a gradient. The initial curve can be anywhere in the image, and interior contours can be automatically detected. The developed algorithm was successfully applied on textured multispectral images of three types of cells, including benign hyperplasia (BH), intraepithelial neoplasia (IN), and carcinoma (Ca) cells.展开更多

A model and analysis of relationship among wheel slippage (S), rotation angle (0), sinkage (z) and wheel radius (r) are presented. It is found that wheel rotation angle, sinkage and radius have some influence on wheel slippage. A multi-objective optimization problem with slippage as utility function was formulated and solved in MATLAB. The results reveal the optimal values of wheel-terrain parameters required to achieve optimum slippage on dry sandy terrain. A method of slippage estimation for a five-wheeled mobile robot was presented through comparing the odometric measurements of the powered wheels with those of the fifth non-powered wheel. The experimental result shows that this method is feasible and can be used for online slippage estimation in a sandy terrain.展开更多

The proposed control approach is a combination of the backstepping and the adaptive variable structure control. The cascaded structure of the attitude maneuver control system with reaction wheel dynamics gives the advantage for applying the backstepping method to construct Lyapunov functions. The robust stability to external disturbances and parametric uncertainty is guaranteed by the adaptive variable structure control. To validate the proposed control algorithm, numerical simulations using the proposed approach are performed for the attitude maneuver mission of rigid spacecraft with a configuration consisting of four reaction wheels for actuator and three magnetorquers for momentum unloading. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm.展开更多

The extraction can be divided into two stages, i. e. the rough segmentation and the refinement. In the rough segmenting stage, an optimal contour matching method is put forward to find similar contour segment from another closed contour with respect to the seed contour. In the refining stage, an iterative way that can extract a circular arc precisely is presented based on parameters identification and contour-ends expanding/shrinking operation. The algorithm can extract the open contour segments from a rotational surface precisely, as demonstrated in the examples. Based on the work of this paper, further research, such as parameter identification of 3 - D surface and CAD model creation, can be conducted.展开更多

The fluid and solid areas are divided into the network comprised of branches and nodes, and the method solves transient mass, energy conservation equations at each node and momentum conservation equation at each branch by a newly deduced numerical method. With this method, to simulate complicated fluid and solid system in short time becomes possible. To verify the code developed, it has been applied to simulate a gas turbine model against the widely used commercial software Flowmaster. And the comparisons show that the two are in good agreement. Then the verified program is applied to the prediction of the characteristics of a designed turbine disk and air-cooling system associated to it, and useful information is obtained.展开更多

The novel method which is capable of evolution and contrast analysis of mechanism kinematics, can be applied to any typical one-and two-degree-of-freedom plane PGTs containing any number of simple, compound or complex-compound planetary gear sets. The efficiency analysis of this method features a systematized and programmed process and its independence of the speed ratio. The primary contribution of this work lies in the integration of quantitative calculation, qualitative evolution and comparative analysis of kinematics of PGTs into one diagram, and in the integration of kinematics and efficiency analysis into a single method system. First, the analytical geometry method is defined, its basic properties are given, and the systematization procedure to perform kinematic analysis is demonstrated. As an application, analytical geometry diagrams of common PGTs are exhibited in the form of a list, whose kinematic characteristics and general evolution tendency are discussed. Then, with the mapping of PGTs onto the angular speed plane, the efficiency formula of analytical geometry, which has an extremely concise form, and a simple method for power flow estimation are put forward. Moreover, a general procedure is provided to analyze the efficiency and power flow. Finally, four numerical examples including a complicated eleven-link differential PGTs are given to illustrate the simpleness and intuitiveness of the analytical geometry method.展开更多
