The initial phase of tomato is critical to the infestation of insect vectors of viruses. Therefore, this study aimed to test the use of yellow card traps around the crop to manage insect vectors of viruses and test the best density of traps/tomato plants. Yellow card traps were placed on the border of the crop plot to capture adult insect vectors. Density of trap/tomato plant was assessed in 10 blocks at the following levels: 1/25; 1/50; 1/75; 1/100; 1/125; 1/150. The monitoring was carded out in 1% of the crop during 60 days in 2011 and 2012 crop. The evaluated systems were Conventional and Phytosanitary Pest Management (PPM). During 2011 season the Conventional system received 14 insecticide applications whereas only 6 insecticide applications were made on the PPM, representing a reduction of 133%. In 2012, the crop under Conventional system was subjected to 15 applications of insecticides, over 8 on PPM, with a reduction of 87.5%. The PPM allowed a 90% reduction in application cost for this insects, obtaining a reduction of R$1,345.00/ha. The highest density was 60 plants/trap. We can conclude that the yellow card traps in tomato crop decreased infestations of insect vectors of viruses. 展开更多

Taking tomato "Kate two" as the experimental material, the effects of different dosage of garlic straw on physical and chemical characteristics of continuous cropping soil and root activity of tomato in solar greenhouse were studied. The results showed that after applying with garlic straw, maximal and minimal temperatures in 0-15 cm soil layers were directly proportional to the amount of returned garlic straw, which were 2.39 ℃ and 1℃ higher than that of the control respectively. The unit weight was decreasing upon the amount of applied garlic straws of soils in different depths, but the porosity of soil was increasing. For example, unit weight and porosity changed the most significantly in soils in the depths of 0-10 cm, which went down by 6.71% and 6.18%, respectively. Besides, garlic straw returning to field improved soil pH, reduced soil conductivity and soil acidification and relieved soil secondary salinization, especially in 0-20 cm soil layers. In addition to that, the application of garlic straw increased the root activity of tomato (max 31.45%), and delayed root system senescence in late stage. Therefore, garlic straw returning could improve the physical and chemical characteristics of soil by succession planting and root activity of tomato in solar greenhouse. 展开更多

Excessive soil salinity is an important constraint limiting the distribution of plants in natural habitats, and is an increasingly severe agricultural problem in arid and semi-arid regions. Higher salinity levels caused significant reduction in growth parameters like leaf area, leaf length and root and shoot dry weight. Salicylic acid (SA), a plant phenolic is now considered as a hormone-like endogenous regulator, and its role in the defence mechanisms against biotic stressors has been well documented. In recent years its role has been widely investigated in abiotic stress (salinity, drought, water deficit and so on). The aim of the present work was to study the effects of salicylic acid on growth and some physiological characters of salt stressed tomato plants. The presence of salicylic acid at low concentration (0.01 mM) in culture medium riched with NaCl 100 mM (6 g·L^-1) improves the tolerance of tomato cv. Golden Sunrise to salinity. This amelioration results in stimulation of growth and development of plants. The applied of SA in saline medium induce: (i) an increase in chlorophyll content; (ii) a better supply of essential elements in plant growth, such as K+; (iii) a decrease in toxic ions such Na+ and CI in aerial organs; and (iv) an additional synthesis of organic solutes and osmoprotectors like proline and proteins. All these results suggest that salicylic acid could be successfully used in alleviating depressive effects of salt on the productivity of the cultivated tomato. 展开更多

This study aimed at the physical, chemical and biochemical changes during ripening of Sweetsop (Annona squamosa L.) and Golden Apple (Spondias citherea Sonner) fruits during ripening as important features to better understand their postharvest handling. It was carried out physical analysis such as firmness and chemical analysis such as total chlorophyll, total carotenoids, soluble solids, pectins and titrable acidity and biochemical analysis such as pectin methyl esterase, polygalacturonase, cellulase, and peroxidase and polyphenoloxidase activities in crude extract. Fruits were harvested at different stages of ripening. Experimental design was completely randomized and was carried out analysis of variance and Tukey tests, Total chlorophyll was decreasing in later stages of ripening, total soluble solid contents increased as the fruits ripen, while the acidity expressed percentage of citric acid decreased during fruits ripening. The loss of firmness and soluble solids content increased as the fruit get ripped stage, while the content of pectin decreased. Activity was observed for pectin methyl esterase and polygalacturonase enzymes during all stages of maturation, presenting the highest activity for both enzymes in the mature state. No cellulase activity detected at any stage during the ripening of these fruits. Activity of the enzyme polyphenoloxidase and peroxidase, associated with pulp browning was higher in the last stages of ripening of these fruits. Physical, chemical and biochemical patterns during ripening were different according to fruit species suggesting differential postharvest handling requirements. 展开更多

To investigate the impact of anaerobic soil disinfestation(ASD)treatment with different processing duration on tomato continuous cropping soil,a total of eight treatments were designed, which included two treatment temperatures of 10℃ and 30℃,and four treatment times of 3,4,5 and 7 weeks(w).The results showed that whether the temperature was 10℃ or 30℃,the pH values,TOC and available K contents in the soil treated by the ASD method were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the EC values and NO_(3)^(-)contents in soils treated by ASD were significantly reduced compared with the untreated group(P<0.05).The Fusarium oxysporum population in soils treated by ASD decreased with the extension of the treatment time. When the treatment temperature was 30℃,the effect on the removal of the NO_(3)^(-)that had accumulated in soils treated by ASD was significantly better than the treatment temperature of 10℃(P<0.05).When soil was treated by ASD for more than 5 w at 30℃,the NH4+content in soil was significantly increased(P<0.05)compared with the untreated soil.In conclusion,NO_(3)^(-)accumulation in soils could not be completely eliminated with treatment by ASD,even when the treatment time at 10℃ was prolonged.Whether the treatment temperature was 10℃ or 30℃,the F.oxysporum population in soils treated by ASD decreased significantly with the extension of the treatment time to more than 5 w compared with treatment only for only 3 w. 展开更多

The use of visible-near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy was explored as a tool to discriminate two new tomato plant varieties in China (Zheza205 and Zheza207). In this study, 82 top-canopy leaves of Zheza205 and 86 top-canopy leaves of Zheza207 were measured in visible-NIR reflectance mode. Discriminant models were developed using principal component analysis (PCA), discriminant analysis (DA), and discriminant partial least squares (DPLS) regression methods. After outliers detection, the samples were randomly split into two sets, one used as a calibration set (n=82) and the remaining samples as a validation set (n=82). When predicting the variety of the samples in validation set, the classification correctness of the DPLS model after optimizing spectral pretreatment was up to 93%. The DPLS model with raw spectra after multiplicative scatter cor- rection and Savitzky-Golay filter smoothing pretreatments had the best satisfactory calibration and prediction abilities (correlation coefficient of calibration (Rc)=0.920, root mean square errors of calibration=0.196, and root mean square errors of predic- tion=0.216). The results show that visible-NIR spectroscopy might be a suitable alternative tool to discriminate tomato plant varieties on-site. 展开更多
