The morphologies, elemental distribution and chemical structures of the coatings were examined via SEM, EPMA, EDS, XRD and FT-IR. The corrosion resistance was assessed by hydrogen evolution, potentiodynamic polarization and EIS. The results show that the coating is composed of single element Zn and ZnO at below 45 ℃;whereas the coatings are predominantly characterized by Zn3(PO4)2·4H2O and small amount of element zinc and ZnO at above 50 ℃. Mg-Li-Ca alloy with Zn-Ca-P coatings prepared at 55 ℃ has the highest corrosion resistance. However, the hydrogen evolution rates of the coatings obtained at 40-50 ℃ is accelerated due to the galvanic corrosion between the imperfection of the single element Zn coating and the Mg substrate.展开更多

[Method] A pot experiment was carried out to compare the loss of nitrogen via ammonia volatilization and nitrogen leaching after application of biochar coated urea (BCU) and common urea (Urea) with different nitrogen rates (0 mg N/kg soil, 400 mg N/kg soil, 320 mg N/kg soil and 280 mg N/kg soil). [Result] The results indicated that the amount of nitrogen loss was proportional to nitrogen applied rate. Leaching nitrogen was higher than ammonia volatilization. Compare with Urea treatments, ammonia volatilization and nitrogen leaching losses were significantly lower in BCU treatments at the same nitrogen application rate. At the nitrogen application rate of 320 and 280 mg N/kg soil, nitrogen loss, ammonia volatilization and leaching nitrogen was 43.5%-45.5%, 3.7%-21.7% and 49.8%-52.1% lower in BCU treatments than in Ure- a treatments, respectively. [Conclusion] The application of BCU could minimize nitro- gen loss by reducing nitrate leaching loss. It can be concluded that the low nitrogen application rate combined with BCU have a practical influence on controlling the risk of nitrogen pollution in Dianchi Lake.展开更多

Ti?6Al?4V ELI (Extra low interstitial) alloy was also investigated to make a comparison. The results show that TNTZF alloy has higher corrosion potential, lower corrosion current density, more stable passive current density and wider passive region compared with Ti–6Al–4V ELI alloy, which indicates that TNTZF alloy has better corrosion resistance. In addition, pitting corrosion is observed on the surface passive film of Ti–6Al–4V ELI alloy but is not found on that of TNTZF alloy. The XPS analysis results reveal that the passive film formed on TNTZF alloy is composed of Nb2O5, NbO2, Ta2O5, ZrO2, TiO and Ti2O3oxides in the matrix of TiO2, which makes the passive film more stable and protective than that formed on Ti?6Al?4V ELI alloy and contributes much to its superior corrosion resistance.展开更多

A small change in the composition of cell membranes can strongly influence the functions of membrane-associated proteins, such as ion and water channels, and thus mediate the chemical and physical balance in cells. Such composition change could originate from the introduction of short-chain alcohols, or other anesthetics into membranes. In this work, we have applied sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS), supplemented by attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), to investigate interaction between methanol and 1,2-dimyristoyl-d54-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (d54-DMPC) lipid bilayers. Lipid's hydrocarbon interior is deuterated while its head group is hydrogenated. At the same time, CH3 symmetric stretch from methanol and lipid head amine group has different frequency, thus we can distinguish the behaviors of methanol, lipid head amine group, and lipid hydrocarbon interior. Based on the spectral feature of the bending mode of the water molecules replaced by methanol, we determined that the methanol molecules are intercalated into the region between amine and phosphate groups at the lipid hydrophilic head. The dipole of CH3 groups of methanol and lipid head, and the water O-H M1 adopt the same orientation directions. The introduction of methanol into the lipid hydrophilic head group can strongly perturb the entire length of the alkyl chains, resulting that the signals of CD2 and CD3 groups from both leaflets can not cancel each other.展开更多

The leaching experiment shows that the extraction rates of Cu with leaching for 30 d by sterile control and microorganisms are 4.0% and 21.5%, respectively. In comparison, 3.8% and 10.5% Fe are leached by sterile control and microorganisms, respectively. The results of XPS studies suggest that Fe atoms dissolve preferentially from the chalcopyrite lattice, and disulfide(S22-), polysulfide(Sn2-) and elemental sulfur(S0) are identified on the chalcopyrite surfaces leached by sterile control and microorganisms. Additionally, sulfate(SO42-) is detected on the chalcopyrite surfaces leached by microorganisms, and most of it probably originates from jarosite. The analysis of CV results reveals that metal-deficient sulfide(Cu1-xFe1-yS2-z, yx) and elemental sulfur(S0) passivate the surface of chalcopyrite electrode. The elemental sulfur and/or jarosite coating on the chalcopyrite surface may have impact on the leaching process; however, the disulfide, polysulfide or metal-deficient sulfide plays a more key role in the chalcopyrite leaching.展开更多

The results indicated that the dominant bacterial communities in Babylonia areolata culture systems of the sub-tidal zone and the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom, which were built on the basis of the seawater in East-island of Zhanjiang, included Proteobac- teda Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria and Actinobacteria. The dominant bacterial groups in the above pond culture system were Garnmaproteobacteria, Alphaproteobacteria, Deltaprotecbacteda, Epsilonproteobacteda, Anaerolineae, Cyanobacteria and Acti- nobacteda. The dominant bacterial communities in the subtidal zone culture system were Gammaprotecbacteda, Alphaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria, Anaerolineae and Cyanobacteda, and there were less Epsilonproteobacteria and Actinobacteria in the culture system. The higher diversity was detected in the above two culture sys- tems. The results of unweighted pair group method with arithmetic average (UPG- MA) showed that the bacterial communities of the sediment samples S1 and S2 in the above two culture systems were a cluster, the similarity of bacterial communities was 54.5%. The bacterial communities of seawater samples S3 and S4 in the above culture systems were in clusters, and the similarity of the bacterial communi- ties was 84.0%. The results showed that the microorganism ecological level in the Babylonia areolata culture systems of the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom could be similar to the sub-tidal zone culture systems through changing the pond seawater and monitoring the microbial population.展开更多

At present, the most cost-effective way of treating wastewater is with biological treatment processes such as the activated sludge process, despite their long operating times. However, population increases have created a demand for more efficient means of wastewater treatment, Fluidization has been demonstrated to in- crease the efficiency of many processes in chemical and biochemical engineering, but it has not been widely used in large-scale wastewater treatment. At the University of Western Ontario, the circulating fluidized-bed bioreactor (CFBBR) was developed for treating wastewater. In this process, carrier particles develop a biofilm composed of bacteria and other microbes. The excellent mixing and mass transfer characteristics inherent to fluidization make this process very effective at treating both municipal and industrial wastewater. Studies of lab- and pilot-scale systems showed that the CFBBR can remove over 90% of the influent organic matter and 80% of the nitrogen, and produces less than one-third as much biological sludge as the activated sludge process. Due to its high efficiency, the CFBBR can also be used to treat wastewaters with high organic solid concentrations, which are more difficult to treat with conventional methods because they require longer residence times; the CFBBR can also be used to reduce the system size and footprint. In addition, it is much better at handling and recovering from dynamic loadings (i.e., varying influent volume and concentrations) than current systems. Overall, the CFBBR has been shown to be a very effective means of treating wastewa- ter, and to be capable of treating larger volumes of wastewater using a smaller reactor volume and a shorter residence time. In addition, its compact design holds potential for more geographically localized and isolat- ed wastewater treatment systems.展开更多

In detail, organic materials in wastewater could be consumed as nutritious source by biofilm composed of aerobes and anaerobes. However, for heavy metal ions (Cu2+, Cr3+), part was removed by electrodeposition, and some was adsorbed on biofilm. In order to compare with the combined process of micro electrolysis and biofilm, the experimental data of micro electrolysis process (intermittent) or biofilm process (continuous) were provided, and the kinetic data of C6H12O6 (glucose) biodegradation by cultured microbes or acclimated microbes were also obtained. These experimental results indicated that for wastewater initially consisted of CeH12O6 (500mg-L-1), Cu2+ and Cr3+ (10mg-L-1), after treatment, its concentrations of C6H12O6, Cu2+ and Cr3+ were lowered to the level of 55-65mg.L^1, and less than 1mg-L-1, respectively. And the industrial reused water standards could be met by treated wastewater.展开更多

The performance of two anaerobic ammonium-oxidizing (anammox) upflow biofilm (UBF) reactors was investigated. The results show that anammox UBFs become unstable under nitrogen loading rate (NLR) applied higher than 1.0 g/(L·d). The consumptions of acidity in the anammox reaction lead to the increase of pH, which is as high as 8.70-9.05. Free nitrous acid concentration is accompanied to be lower than the affinity constant of anammox bacteria, and then starvation effect appears. Moreover, free ammonia concentration increases to 57-178 mg/L, resulting in inhibitory effect on the anammox bacteria. Both negative effects contribute to the instability of the anammox bioreactors.展开更多

Biofilm formation was determined for a total of 18 bacterial isolates obtained from the biofilms of wastewater treatment systems and of little carpolite in soil. Among these isolates, seven showed strong biofilm-forming capacity. The phylogenetic affiliation of the isolates showing high biofilm formation capacity was determined through 16S rDNA sequencing and the isolates were grouped into 7 bacterial species including Pseudornonas sp., Pseudomonas putida, Aeromonas caviae, Bacillus cereus, Pseudornonas plecoglossicida, Aeromonas hydrophila, and Comamonas testosteroni. The biofilm-forming capacity was closely related with flagella, exopolysaccharide, and extracellular protein. According to the coefficient of determination, the relative importance of the five biological characteristics to biofilm formation was, in order from greatest to least, exopolysaccharide 〉 flagella 〉 N-acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) signaling molecules 〉 extracellular protein 〉 swarming motility.展开更多

Various environmental and host (e.g. genetic-, epithelial-, immune and nonimmune) factors are involved. It is a multifactorial polygenic disease with probable genetic heterogeneity. Some genes are associated with IBD itself, while others increase the risk of ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn' s disease (CD) or are associated with disease location and/or behaviour. This review addresses recent advances in the genetics of IBD. The article discusses the current information on the crosstalk between microbial and genetic factors (e.g. NOD2/CARD15, SLC22A46A5 and DLG5). The genetic data acquired in recent years help in understanding the pathogenesis of IBD and can identify a number of potential targets for therapeutic intervention. In the future, genetics may help more accurately diagnose and predict disease course in IBD.展开更多

The analysis of CV results reveals that metal-deficient sulfide(Cu1-xFe1-yS2-z, yx) and elemental sulfur(S0) passivate the surface of chalcopyrite electrode. The elemental sulfur and/or jarosite coating on the chalcopyrite surface may have impact on the leaching process; however, the disulfide, polysulfide or metal-deficient sulfide plays a more key role in the chalcopyrite leaching.

文摘To know the bacterial communities structure in Babylonia areolata culture systems and to research and optimize the management pattem of Babylonia areola-ta culture systems of the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom, the bacte- rial communities in Babylonia areolata culture systems of the sub-tidal zone and the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom were analyzed at molecular level by adopting the denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). The results showed that the microorganism ecological level in the Babylonia areolata culture systems of the pond mulched plastic film and sand in bottom could be similar to the sub-tidal zone culture systems through changing the pond seawater and monitoring the microbial population.
文摘Wastewater treatment is a process that is vital to protecting both the environment and human health. In addition, its compact design holds potential for more geographically localized and isolat- ed wastewater treatment systems.

文摘A complex process of micro electrolysis and biofilm was developed to continuously treat organic wastew-aters containing heavy metal ions such as Cu2+ and Or3+, and the relevant purifying mechanism was also addressed. And the industrial reused water standards could be met by treated wastewater.

文摘Ammonium and nitrite are two substrates of anammox bacteria, but they are also inhibitors under high concentrations. Both negative effects contribute to the instability of the anammox bioreactors.

文摘Biofilm-associated microorganisms play crucial roles in terrestrial and aquatic nutrient cycling and in the biodegradation of environmental pollutants. According to the coefficient of determination, the relative importance of the five biological characteristics to biofilm formation was, in order from greatest to least, exopolysaccharide 〉 flagella 〉 N-acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) signaling molecules 〉 extracellular protein 〉 swarming motility.
文摘The pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is only partially understood. In the future, genetics may help more accurately diagnose and predict disease course in IBD.
