Real and complex Schur forms have been receiving increasing attention from the fluid mechanics community recently,especially related to vortices and turbulence.Several decompositions of the velocity gradient tensor,such as the triple decomposition of motion(TDM)and normal-nilpotent decomposition(NND),have been proposed to analyze the local motions of fluid elements.However,due to the existence of different types and non-uniqueness of Schur forms,as well as various possible definitions of NNDs,confusion has spread widely and is harming the research.This work aims to clean up this confusion.To this end,the complex and real Schur forms are derived constructively from the very basics,with special consideration for their non-uniqueness.Conditions of uniqueness are proposed.After a general discussion of normality and nilpotency,a complex NND and several real NNDs as well as normal-nonnormal decompositions are constructed,with a brief comparison of complex and real decompositions.Based on that,several confusing points are clarified,such as the distinction between NND and TDM,and the intrinsic gap between complex and real NNDs.Besides,the author proposes to extend the real block Schur form and its corresponding NNDs for the complex eigenvalue case to the real eigenvalue case.But their justification is left to further investigations. 展开更多

The exponential stability of a class of neural networks with continuously distributed delays is investigated by employing a novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. Through introducing some free-weighting matrices and the equivalent descriptor form, a delay-dependent stability criterion is established for the addressed systems. The condition is expressed in terms of a linear matrix inequality (LMI), and it can be checked by resorting to the LMI in the Matlab toolbox. In addition, the proposed stability criteria do not require the monotonicity of the activation functions and the derivative of a time-varying delay being less than 1, which generalize and improve earlier methods. Finally, numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the obtained methods. 展开更多

The systematic design procedure for the fuzzy robust controller based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) is given. Some sufficient conditions are derived for the existence of fuzzy H ∞ state feedback controllers such that the closed loop system is asymptotically stable and the effect of the disturbance input on controlled output is reduced to a prescribed level. The delay-dependent absolute stability for a class of Lurie systems with interval time-varying delay is studied. By employing an augmented Lyapunov functional and combining a free-weighting matrix approach and the reciprocal convex technique, an improved stability condition is derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). By retaining some useful terms that are usually ignored in the derivative of the Lyapunov function, the proposed sufficient condition depends not only on the lower and upper bounds of both the delay and its derivative, but it also depends on their differences, which has wider application fields than those of present results. Moreover, a new type of equality expression is developed to handle the sector bounds of the nonlinear function, which achieves fewer LMIs in the derived condition, compared with those based on the convex representation. Therefore, the proposed method is less conservative than the existing ones. Simulation examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the approach. 展开更多

Matrix principal component analysis (MatPCA), as an effective feature extraction method, can deal with the matrix pattern and the vector pattern. However, like PCA, MatPCA does not use the class information of samples. As a result, the extracted features cannot provide enough useful information for distinguishing pat- tern from one another, and further resulting in degradation of classification performance. To fullly use class in- formation of samples, a novel method, called the fuzzy within-class MatPCA (F-WMatPCA)is proposed. F-WMatPCA utilizes the fuzzy K-nearest neighbor method(FKNN) to fuzzify the class membership degrees of a training sample and then performs fuzzy MatPCA within these patterns having the same class label. Due to more class information is used in feature extraction, F-WMatPCA can intuitively improve the classification perfor- mance. Experimental results in face databases and some benchmark datasets show that F-WMatPCA is effective and competitive than MatPCA. The experimental analysis on face image databases indicates that F-WMatPCA im- proves the recognition accuracy and is more stable and robust in performing classification than the existing method of fuzzy-based F-Fisherfaces. 展开更多

The judgment method... Reduced Q-matrix (Qr matrix) plays an important role in the rule space model (RSM) and the attribute hierarchy method (AHM). Based on the attribute hierarchy, a valid/invalid item is defined. The judgment method of the valid/invalid item is developed on the relation between reachability matrix and valid items. And valid items are explained from the perspective of graph theory. An incremental augment algorithm for constructing Qr matrix is proposed based on the idea of incremental forward regression, and its validity is theoretically considered. Results of empirical tests are given in order to compare the performance of the incremental augment algo-rithm and the Tatsuoka algorithm upon the running time. Empirical evidence shows that the algorithm outper-forms the Tatsuoka algorithm, and the analysis of the two algorithms also show linear growth with respect to the number of valid items. Mathematical models with 10 attributes are built for the two algorithms by the linear regression analysis. 展开更多

In order to overcome data-quantization, networked-induced delay, network packet dropouts and wrong sequences in the nonlinear networked control system, a novel nonlinear networked control system model is built by the T-S fuzzy method. Two time-varying quantizers are added in the model. The key analysis steps in the method are to construct an improved interval-delay-dependent Lyapunov functional and to introduce the free-weighting matrix. By making use of the parallel distributed compensation technology and the convexity of the matrix function, the improved criteria of the stabilization and stability are obtained. Simulation experiments show that the parameters of the controllers and quantizers satisfying a certain performance can be obtained by solving a set of LMIs. The application of the nonlinear mass-spring system is provided to show that the proposed method is effective. 展开更多

An analysis method based on the fuzzy Lyapunov functions is presented to analyze the stability of the continuous affine fuzzy systems. First, a method is introduced to deal with the consequent part of the fuzzy local model. Thus, the stability analysis method of the homogeneous fuzzy system can be used for reference. Stability conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities based on the fuzzy Lyapunov functions and the modified common Lyapunov functions, respectively. The results demonstrate that the stability result based on the fuzzy Lyapunov functions is less conservative than that based on the modified common Lyapunov functions via numerical examples. Compared with the method which does not expand the consequent part, the proposed method is simpler but its feasible region is reduced. Finally, in order to expand the application of the fuzzy Lyapunov functions, the piecewise fuzzy Lyapunov function is proposed, which can be used to analyze the stability for triangular or trapezoidal membership functions and obtain the stability conditions. A numerical example validates the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

The Kronecker product and convex combination techniques are employed. Also the bounds of time-varying delays and delay derivatives are fully considered. By adjusting the inner coupling matrix parameters and using the Matlab LMI toolbox, the design and applications of addressed coupled networks can be realized.
