As a basic cell of the circuits, an OPA( operational amplifier) is designed with low power, low noise, small size and high gain. The detecting circuit has a chip area of 290 μm × 400 μm, a power dissipation of 2.02 mW, an equivalent input noise of 17.72 nV/ Hz, a gain of 60. 5 dB, and an output voltage from - 2. 48 to + 2. 5 V. The stimulating circuit has a chip area of 130 μm × 290 μm, a power dissipation of 740 μW, and an output voltage from - 2. 5 to 2. 04 V. The parameters show that two circuits are suitable for a monolithic integrated MEA system. The detecting circuit and MEA have been fabricated. The test results show that the detecting circuit works well.展开更多

Many unsolved questions regarding the penetrance and pathophysiological mechanism of LHON demand efficient and reliable mutation testing. This study aims to develop a minor groove binder (MGB) probe assay for rapid detection of mtDNA11778 mutation and heteroplasmy in Chinese LHON patients by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Methods: Forty-eight patients suspected of having LHON and their maternal relatives underwent a molecular genetic evaluation, with 20 normal individuals as a control group at the same time. A real-time PCR involving two MGB probes was used to detect the mtDNA 1 1778 mutation and heteroplasmy. A linear standard curve was obtained by pUCmLHONG and pUCmLHONA clones. Results: All 48 LHON patients and their maternal relatives were positive for rntDNA11778 mutation in our assay, 27 heteroplasmic and 21 homoplasmic. Eighteen cases did not show an occurrence of the disease, while 9 developed the disease among the 27 heteroplasmic mutation cases. Eleven did not show an occurrence of the disease, while 10 cases developed the disease among 21 homoplasmic mutation cases. There was a significant difference in the incidence between the heteroplasmic and the homoplasmic mutation types. The time needed for running a real-time PCR assay was only 80 min. Conclusion: This real-time PCR assay is a rapid, reliable method for mtDNA mutation detection as well as heteroplasmy quantification. Detecting this ratio is very important for predicting phenotypic expression of unaffected carriers.展开更多

Methods: Male and female (n = 197) college basketball players completed the Psychological Performance Inventory-Alternative (PPI-A), a measure of characteristics and skills consistent with mental toughness, and the PERK an objective measure of basketball performance. Results: Findings suggest that basketball performance can be partially predicted by mental toughness and starting status. Males reported greater mental toughness than females. Starters and nonstarters did not differ in mental toughness. Moderated hierarchical regression analysis indicated that mental toughness was related to performance for male players as both a main effect and interaction with starter status. For female players, in contrast, starter status was the only significant predictor of performance. Practitioners are encouraged to foster the psychological skills associated with mental toughness in females and non-starters in basketball. Conclusion: Discussion of the PPI-A as a measure of mental toughness and suggestions for its improvement are explored. A need exists for additional research on mental toughness and objective performance, as performance enhancement is a major impetus for research on mental toughness. The PF performs symbol detection according to the joint posterior density probability of simulated particles including relative delays, fading gains and symbols via sequential importance sample and resample. A simplified scheme is also proposed by separating the indepent relative delays and fading with symbols. These parameters are modeled as the extended aggressive processes and estimated by the Kalman filter, so as to provide their arbitrary distribution for symbol detection. Simulation results show that the bit error rate of the PF is less than conventional detectors. Moreover, the complexity of PF is moderate comparable to other nonlinear suboptimal approaches.展开更多

The probe can deliver chemicals or drugs to the target neurons while simultaneously recording the electrical action of these neurons extracellularly. The probe was fabricated by double-sided deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) from a silicon-on-insulator (SO1) wafer. The flu- idic channels were formed with V-shape groove etching on the silicon probe and sealed with silicon nitride and parylene-C. The shank of the probe is 4 mm long and 120 ~tm wide. The thickness of the probe is 100 ~tm. The probe has two fluidic chan- nels and two recording sites. The microfluidic channels can withstand a pressure drop as much as 30 kPa and the flow resisti ity of the microfluidic channel is 0.13 μL min-1 kPa-1, The typical impedance of the neural electrode is 32.3 kΩ at 1 kHz at room temperature.展开更多

We have employed a combinatorial library of surface modified gold nanoparticles to interrogate the relationships between the nanoparticle surface chemistry and the specific and nonspecific binding to a common, important, and representative enzyme, acetylcholinesterase (ACHE). We also used Bayesian neural networks to generate robust quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) models relating the nanoparticle surface to the AChE binding that also provided significant understanding into the molecular basis for these interactions. The results illustrate the insights that result from a synergistic blending of experimental combinatorial synthesis and biological testing of nanoparticles with quantitative computational methods and molecular modeling.展开更多

A simple linear neural network without biases and hidden layers is adopted. A set of monoenergetic detector response functions in the energy range from 0.25 MeV to 16 MeV with an energy interval of 0.25 MeV are generated by the Monte Carlo code O5S in the training phase of the unfolding process. The capability of ANN was demonstrated successfully using the Monte Carlo data itself and experimental data obtained from the Am-Be neutron source and D-T neutron source.展开更多
