This manuscript reviewed the function of MNS in action understanding as well as language evolution, and specifically assessed its roles as the bridge from body language to fluent speeches. Then we discussed the speech defects of autism patients due to the disruption of MNS. Finally, given that MNS is plastic in adult brain, we proposed MNS targeted therapy provides an efficient rehabilitation approach for brain damages conditions as well as autism patients.展开更多

In this paper, we propose a transformation to normalize the emotional features, emotion recognition. Features based on prosody then derivate a Modified QDF (MQDF) to speech and voice quality are extracted and Principal Component Analysis Neural Network (PCANN) is used to reduce dimension of the feature vectors. The results show that voice quality features are effective supplement for recognition, and the method in this paper could improve the recognition ratio effectively.展开更多
We developed and tested an improved neural network to predict the average concentration of PM10(particulate matter with diameter smaller than 10 ?m) several hours in advance in summer in Beijing.A genetic algorithm op...We developed and tested an improved neural network to predict the average concentration of PM10(particulate matter with diameter smaller than 10 ?m) several hours in advance in summer in Beijing.A genetic algorithm optimization procedure for optimizing initial weights and thresholds of the neural network was also evaluated.This research was based upon the PM10 data from seven monitoring sites in Beijing urban region and meteorological observation data,which were recorded every 3 h during summer of 2002.Two neural network models were developed.Model I was built for predicting PM10 concentrations 3 h in advance while Model II for one day in advance.The predictions of both models were found to be consistent with observations.Percent errors in forecasting the numerical value were about 20.This brings us to the conclusion that short-term fluctuations of PM10 concentrations in Beijing urban region in summer are to a large extent driven by meteorological conditions.Moreover,the predicted results of Model II were compared with the ones provided by the Models-3 Community Multiscale Air Quality(CMAQ) modeling system.The mean relative errors of both models were 0.21 and 0.26,respectively.The performance of the neural network model was similar to numerical models,when applied to short-time prediction of PM10 concentration.展开更多

Widespread societal ills such as depression and...A consumer makes choices by following a certain paradigm, a system for organizing his thinking based on norms that are determined by certain norm-setters or role models. Widespread societal ills such as depression and suicide seem to correlate with certain types of consumer behavior. However, current consumer choice theories don't appear to be effective in evaluating epidemiology research. This study compares existing consumer choice paradigms and introduces the linguistic paradigm as a framework for studying the organization of human thinking. The linguistic paradigm is based on the nature of human language and on spiritual wisdom. The paradigm is implemented to generate models (process templates) for the analysis of selected consumer choice issues. The potential effectiveness of these models in analyzing consumer behavior is discussed.展开更多

In this paper, we deal with theological reflection of suicide and euthanasia and their presentation as free decisions of individuals shown in the movies Seven Pounds and The Sea Inside. Also, we shall present theological reflection on culture of life and culture of death aimed to find common ground for dialogue between two opposed points of view. In the first, introductory part, we will present two views of human freedom, and we will point out that just a theological speech about freedom includes the category of responsibility. On the other hand, what happens often is neglecting categories of resposibility and absolutisation or marginalization of free will. Then we will, as an introduction to the interpretation of films, present global statistics that justify global concerns when it comes to suicide and euthanasia. Next, we will show in central part the concept of quality of life, and we will interpret it through the two mentioned films. In the last section, We conclude, despite opposition between culture of life and death, to offer category of altruism as a starting point for dialogue between the two cultures.展开更多

In this article, a novel neural network nonlinear predic-tive control (NNPC) strategy baseed on the new Tent-map chaos optimization algorithm (TCOA) is presented. Thefeedforward neural network'is used as the multi-step predictive model. In addition, the TCOA is applied to perform the nonlinear rolling optimization to enhance the convergence and accuracy in the NNPC. This article presents a framework that includes (1) g...Fast prediction of permeability directly from images enabled by image recognition neural networks is a novel pore-scale modeling method that has a great potential. This article presents a framework that includes (1) generation of porous media samples,(2) computation of permeability via fluid dynamics simulations,(3) training of convolutional neural networks (CNN) with simulated data, and (4) validations against simulations. Comparison of machine learning results and the ground truths suggests excellent predictive performance across a wide range of porosities and pore geometries, especially for those with dilated pores. Owning to such heterogeneity, the permeability cannot be estimated using the conventional Kozeny–Carman approach. Computational time was reduced by several orders of magnitude compared to fluid dynamic simulations. We found that, by including physical parameters that are known to affect permeability into the neural network, the physics-informed CNN generated better results than regular CNN. However, improvements vary with implemented heterogeneity.展开更多
