To cope with the constraint problem of power consumption and transmission delay in the virtual backbone of wireless sensor network, a distributed connected dominating set (CDS) algorithm with (α,β)-constraints i...To cope with the constraint problem of power consumption and transmission delay in the virtual backbone of wireless sensor network, a distributed connected dominating set (CDS) algorithm with (α,β)-constraints is proposed. Based on the (α, β)-tree concept, a new connected dominating tree with bounded transmission delay problem(CDTT) is defined and a corresponding algorithm is designed to construct a CDT-tree which can trade off limited total power and bounded transmission delay from source to destination nodes. The CDT algorithm consists of two phases: The first phase constructs a maximum independent set(MIS)in a unit disk graph model. The second phase estimates the distance and calculates the transmission power to construct a spanning tree in an undirected graph with different weights for MST and SPF, respectively. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the CDT algorithm gives a correct solution to the CDTF problem and forms a virtual backbone with( α,β)-constraints balancing the requirements of power consumption and transmission delay.展开更多
Cardiogenic shock is the leading cause of death among patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction (MI). Understanding the mechanisms for acute pump failure is therefore important. The aim of this study is...Cardiogenic shock is the leading cause of death among patients hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction (MI). Understanding the mechanisms for acute pump failure is therefore important. The aim of this study is to examine in an acute MI dog model whether mitochondrial bio-energetic function within non-ischemic wall regions are associated with pump failure. Anterior MI was produced in dogs via ligation of left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, that resulted in an infract size of about 30% of the left ventricular wall. Measurements ofhemodynamic status, mitochondrial function, free radical production and mitochondrial uncoupling protein 3 (UCP3) expression were determined over 24 h period. Hemodynamic measurements revealed a 〉 50% reduction in cardiac output at 24 h post infarction when compared to baseline. Biopsy samples were obtained from the posterior non-ischemic wall during acute infarction. ADP/O ratios for isolated mitochondria from non-ischemic myocardium at 6 h and 24 h were decreased when compared to the ADP/O ratios within the same samples with and without palmitic acid (PA). GTP inhibition of (PA)-stimulated state 4 respiration in isolated mitochondria from the non-ischemic wall increased by 7% and 33% at 6 h and 24 h post-infarction respectively when compared to sham and pre-infarction samples. This would suggest that the mitochondria are uncoupled and this is supported by an associated increase in UCP3 expression observed on western blots from these same biopsy samples. Blood samples from the coronary sinus measured by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) methods showed an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) over baseline at 6 h and 24 h post-infarction. In conclusion, mitochondrial bio-energetic ADP/O ratios as a result of acute infarction are abnormal within the non-ischemic wall. Mitochondria appear to be energetically uncoupled and this is associated with declining pump function. Free radical production may be associated with the induction of uncoupling proteins in the mitochondria.展开更多

To this end, five different flexible airfoils (Symmetric and Non-symmetric) are employed. The results show that the use of a thick flexible symmetric airfoil can effectively increase output power compared to that achievable with a conventional rigid blade. First, the principal component analysis(PCA)is applied to reduce the time dimension 153 594×128 of the fMRI data to 153 594×5 for simplifying complexity computation and obtaining 95% of the information. Secondly, a new kernel-based nonlinear ICA method referred as the kernel ICA(KICA)based on the Gaussian kernel is introduced to analyze the resting-state fMRI data and extract the DMN. Experimental results show that the KICA provides a better performance for the resting-state fMRI data analysis compared with the classical ICA. Furthermore, the DMN is accurately extracted and the noise is reduced.展开更多

However, due to inserting (M- K) z...The performance of OFDM systems may be degraded when intersymbol interference (ISI) channels have spectral nulls. Recently, the precoded OFDM was proposed to combat this problem. However, due to inserting (M- K) zeros between each two sets of K consecutive information symbols, the average transmitting power of the precoded OFDM system reduces by 10log10(M/K) dB compared with the conventional OFDM system. Under the same points inverse fast Fourier transformation (IFFF), the precoded OFDM system has a higher peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) compared with the conventional OFDM system. This paper proposes a novel precoded BPSK-OFDM system based on Haar wavelet transformation. The Haar wavelet transformation operating decomposition over the vector information symbols produced by a precoder shows that half of the information symbols are zeros and the rest are either √2- or √2. Then, we have the peak power and PAPR reduced by 10log1002=3dB at most compared with the precoded OFDM system. Finally, we compare PAPR of the proposed OFDM system with the precoded OFDM and the conventional OFDM system.展开更多
Thermal performance is the most important factor in the development of a borehole heat exchanger utilizing geothermal energy.The thermal performance is affected by many different design parameters and different operat...Thermal performance is the most important factor in the development of a borehole heat exchanger utilizing geothermal energy.The thermal performance is affected by many different design parameters and different operating conditions such as bleeding.This eventually determines the operation and cost efficiency of the borehole heat exchanger system.The thermal performance of an open standing column well (SCW) type geothermal heat exchanger was assessed under the influence of bleeding.For this,a thermal response test rig was established with line-source theory.The test rig also had a bleeding function by releasing fluid while taking additional underground water through the heat exchanger.The thermal response test was performed with an additional constant input heat source.Effective thermal conductivity and thermal resistance were obtained from the measured data.From the measurement,the effective thermal conductivity is found to have 1.47 times higher value when bleeding is applied.The thermal resistance also increases by 1.58 times compared to a non-bleeding case.This trend indicates enhanced heat transfer in the SCW type heat exchanger with a bleeding function.Bleeding,therefore,could be an effective method of achieving a high heat transfer rate in the SCW type heat exchanger with sufficient underground water supply.展开更多
The fixed-point algorithm and infomax algorithm are two of the most popular algorithms in independent component analysis(ICA).However,it is hard to take both stability and speed into consideration in processing functi...The fixed-point algorithm and infomax algorithm are two of the most popular algorithms in independent component analysis(ICA).However,it is hard to take both stability and speed into consideration in processing functional magnetic resonance imaging(fMRI)data.In this paper,an optimization model for ICA is presented and an improved fixed-point algorithm based on the model is proposed.In the new algorithms a small step size is added to increase the stability.In order to accelerate the convergence,an improvement on Newton method is made,which makes cubic convergence for the new algorithm.Applying the algorithm and two other algorithms to invivo fMRI data,the results show that the new algorithm separates independent components stably,which has faster convergence speed and less computation than the other two algorithms.The algorithm has obvious advantage in processing fMRI signal with huge data.展开更多
Magnetic starch particles (MSPs) were synthesized in water-in-oil mieroemulsion at room temperature. MSPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTI...Magnetic starch particles (MSPs) were synthesized in water-in-oil mieroemulsion at room temperature. MSPs were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), zeta potential system, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM). The average diameter of the MSPs was 220 nm, dispersed with well-proportioned size and magnetic resonance, the saturation magnetization was 3.64 A.mR/kg. MSP was coated with poly-L-lysine (PLL), and then the surface of PLL-MSP was combined with fluorescein isothiocynate (FITC). Results show that fluorescent/magnetic starch particles (FMSPs) are of stable photo-bleaching capability compared with free FITC, with low bio-toxicity and certain function of magnetic separation. It is expected that FMSPs are bifimctional nano-materials including fluorescence labelling and magnetic separation.展开更多

Although both of the bisPC71BM have similar spec- trometric and electrochemical properties, the spatial orientation of the two addition groups on C7o has impact on crystal packing and molecular assembly of bisPC71BM isomers and, in turn, photovoltaic performance in polymer solar cell based on poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) (with power conversion efficiency of 1.72 % and 1.84 % for the solar cells involving cis- and trans-bisPC71BM, respec- tively). Although the power conversion efficiency remains to be improved, this work exemplifies that the photovoltaic properties of fullerene-based electron acceptors areinfluenced by aggregation of the stereomeric molecules and thus extends the guidelines for rational design of efficient fullerene acceptor.展开更多

In this paper, we study the feas...The echo-enabled harmonic generation (EEHG) scheme holds promising prospects for efficiently generat- ing intense coherent radiation at very high harmonics of the initial seed laser. In this paper, we study the feasibility of operating the Shanghai X-ray free-electron laser test facility with a single stage EEHG setup. With a combina- tion of existing numerical codes, start-to-end simulations considering various three-dimensional effects have been carried out to show the possible performance of the EEHG FEL. Simulation results demonstrate that a single stage EEHG can generate high power soft X-ray radiation pulses with narrow bandwidth directly from UV seed lasers. With the help of the harmonic lasing technique or upgraded linac, we also show the possibility of generating coherent soft X-ray radiation in the "water window" with a single stage EEHG.展开更多

With the help of the harmonic lasing technique or upgraded linac, we also show the possibility of generating coherent soft X-ray radiation in the "water window" with a single stage EEHG.
