Automatic process control (APC) based on design of experiment (DOE) is a cost-efficient approach for variation reduction. The process changes both in mean and variance owing to online parameter adjustment make it hard to apply traditional SPC charts in such DOE-based APC applied process. An adaptive SPC scheme is developed, which can better track the process transitions and achieve the possible SPC run cost reduction when the process is stable. The control law of SPC parameters is designed by fully utilizing the estimation properties of the process model instead of traditionally using the data collected from the production line. An example is provided to illustrate the proposed adaptive SPC design approach. 展开更多

Background: Despite their utility in accessing ambulatory movement, pedometers have not been used consistently to monitor physical activity in U.S. surveillance systems. This study was designed to determine the feasibility of using pedometers to assess daily steps taken in a sub-sample of adults from Maricopa County who completed the 2014 Arizona Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Survey.Methods: Respondents were sent an Omron HJ324 U pedometer, a logbook to record steps taken, and a walking questionnaire. The pedometer was worn for 7 days. Feasibility was assessed for acceptability(interest in study), demand(procedures followed correctly), implementation(time to complete study), and practicality(cost).Results: Acceptability was modest with 23.9%(830/3476) agreeing to participate. Among those participating(92.9%; 771/830), 50.1%(386/771)returned the logbook. Demand was modest with 39.3%(303/771) of logbooks returned with valid data. Implementation represented 5 months to recruit participants. The cost to obtain valid step-count data was USD61.60 per person. An average of 6363 ± 3049 steps/day were taken with most participants classified as sedentary(36.0%) or low active(35.6%).Conclusion: The feasibility of using pedometers in a state-based surveillance system is modest at best. Feasibility may potentially be improved with easy-to-use pedometers where data can be electronically downloaded. 展开更多

This could be done fhrough descriptive and analytic navigation in rivers and navigation at sea specially in confined waters. Vessel traffic services (VTS) system deals with managing ship traffic and suggesting best routes for vessels at busy and confined waters. Nile traffic service (NTS) as a Nile traffic monitoring system established by rivers protective authorities, can be alike to VTS maximum economic returns coming from fiver routes can be recognized with assistance of Nile traffic services which keep significant river information available for all users at all times. It also helps keep waters safer and more controlled by detecting illegal cargo activities the paper aims to re-plan River Nile for using in navigation and transportation due to its significant importance for a country like Egypt. 展开更多

In this paper, a C60-based clustering algorithm is proposed for the specific planned network of space tracking and surveillance system(STSS), where all the sensors are partitioned into 12 clusters according to the C60(or football surface) architecture, and then a hierarchical sensor-management scheme is well designed.Finally, the algorithm is applied to a typical STSS constellation,and the simulation results show that the proposed method has better target-tracking performance than the nonclustering scheduling method. 展开更多

The fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensing technology is used to dynamically monitor multiple parameters of railway switch machine poles, including time of movement, direction and quantity of loading and locking force, and states of loading resistance. This paper presents the design and implementation of a railway switch pole strain on-line monitoring system based on the FBG stress-sensibilized monitor for a Siemens S700K switch machine. The ring shape FBG strain gauge and stress-sensibilized methods significantly increased the monitoring sensitivity. Installing approaches adapted the harsh environment in the railway application. The monitoring results showed the high sensitivity and high reliability of this monitoring system. This application provides a long-term and on-line detecting method which could meet railway switch condition monitoring demands of more than 100,000 switch machines in the country. 展开更多
