Business Strategy and Perceived Benefits of Internet Banking: Their Impact on Banks' Strategic Responses to China's Entry to WTO

With the entry to WTO and development of IT, banks in China are adjusting their competitive strategies to meet the competition. Internet banking has become a kind of strategic choice to response to the entry to WTO. Based on relevantly selective reviews of literature of strategy theory and research, a model is developed to study banks' strategic response to entry to WTO. According to a survey of 192 sets of questionnaires, this study finds that external pressure, business strategy and perceived benefits of Internet banking would influence banks' perceived increase in Internet banking investment. And banks' perceived increase in Internet banking investment has no difference between big banks and small banks. 展开更多

Measuring mobile calls data is an increasingly import issue,which will benefit to the understanding of the behavior of mobile users and assist telecom operators to optimize their business strategies.The existing researches on cell phone data measurement only focus on mobile calls or on mobile-internet surfing and little researches focus on the interactions of behaviors between them.In this paper,some basic factors of the association between mobile calls and mobile-internet surfing are measured.Then first their distributions are compared and the preference of users is quantified.After that experiments on the curve fitting of both the whole and parts of these distributions are done.Through the comparison of the correlation coefficients and Fourier fitting parameters,different behaviors is found between workdays and weekends,as well as Saturdays and Sundays in mobile-call distributions.Besides,the results of our observation show that the mobile-internet traffic does not always monotone increase with the increase of online time,significant changes are observed after 8hours of mobile-internet surfing. 展开更多

Corporate restructuring has become a major component in the financial and economic environment all over the world. Industrial restructuring has raised important issues for business decisions as well as for public policy formulation. Since 1991, Indian industries have been increasingly exposed to both domestic and international competition and competitiveness. The companies started restructuring there operations around their core business there M & A. But M & A is an area of potential good and harm in corporate strategy including manufacturing industry. Therefore, an attempt has been made to analyze the security returns and to find out the net wealth increase or decrease to the shareholders of acquiring firms. In India, there are totally 58 manufacturing companies which have undergone mergers and acquisitions during 2000, 2001 & 2002. Thirty percentage from the total population was taken as sample size (i.e., 17 companies out of 58). The present study is mainly based on secondary data. The Market Model and Market Adjusted Returns Model analysis are used as tools of analysis. 展开更多

Firstly, investors appeared in the press sector, later on in the electronic media. One of the first groups presented in Poland was Orkla Media. The Norwegians launched a brand new regional daily. After subsequent failure they changed the pattern of business activity. When in 2006 Mecom bought out Orkla's shares, a new era began. The British fund was mainly interested in making their assets more profitable. The biggest shareholder of the regional press sector, however, is still Verlagsgruppe Passau (VGP). The German group appeared in 1993, in disguise of a Swiss company and next year took over eight regional dailies. In due course, VGP bought out a couple of more regional titles and became the leader of this sector of the market. Although the Germans were competing against the Norwegians and the Brits, they showed a different style of managing their assets. The author attempts to describe different patterns of business strategy in the press sector in Poland, examining each investor's behavior and the results of their efforts. This can lead to conclusions about the past activities as well as to predictions about the future of the market. 展开更多

This paper tests the relationship between the reputation and the earnings quality. Through a partial correlation test and a regression test, I do find the evidence that the reputation is not only positively correlated with superior earnings quality, but also does have positive effect on superior earnings quality, as well as the superior total sales do in Chinese public companies. 展开更多

Identification and responsiveness towards customer needs is a notion that rests deeply in the heart of the marketing concept, and has been discussed in various fields of business and economic literature. At the same time literature in port economics and management has proposed various means for analyzing market conditions, overcoming competitive pressures in the port industry and pursuing sustainable competitive advantage. In line with this discussion, albeit with a significant time delay, port economics and management literature has also proposed the use of marketing strategies as a strategic tool towards achieving port competitiveness. However, the early approaches to port marketing, mainly based on consumer marketing principles, where followed by scarce references, mainly dealing with particularities of marketing implementation in ports and terminals. This paper attempts to provide a solid theoretical background to the notion, the need and the applicability of the marketing concept in the container port industry. It investigates the preconditions under which port marketing strategies are designed and formulated, by measuring the level of market orientation of ports and terminals. Furthermore, it attempts to examine the impact of market orientation on port performance, under the mediating role of marketing tactics and the moderating effect of the ports'/terminals' internal and external environment. 展开更多

The Effects of Organization Context, Investment Strategy, and Entry Mode on Management Performance: An Analysis of Taiwan Residents Enterprises in China Mainland

This paper seeks to identify the reasons behind such a stellar performance by conducting an empirical study on the top 500 Taiwan Residents businesses in the database. The results suggest that: (1) the larger the investment into China, the better the business performances; (2) the higher the ownership by Taiwan Residents firms for the outward investments to China, the better the business performances; (3) compared to investments in IT, technology and machinery, the outward investments from Taiwan to China achieve better returns in commodity, energy, and mining; (4) compared to investments in Eastern, Central, and Western China, the investments in Chinese municipalities generate better returns. 展开更多

Field experiments were condu... Many recently developed N management strategies have been extremely successful in improving N use efficiency. How- ever, attempts to further increase grain yields have had limited success. Field experiments were conducted in 2007 and 2008 at four sites to evaluate the effect of an in-season root-zone N management strategy on maize (Zea mays L.). According to the in-season root-zone N management, the optimal N rate (ONR) was determined by subtracting measured soil mineral N (NHa+-N and NO3-N) in the root zone from N target values. Other treatments included a control without N fertilization, 70% of ONR~ 130% of ONR, and recommended N rate (RNR) by agronomists in China that have been shown to approach maize yield potentials. Although apparent N recovery for the ONR treatment was significantly higher than that under RNR in 2007, grain yield declined from 13.3 to 11.0 Mg ha-1 because of an underestimation of N uptake. In 2008, N target values were adjusted to match crop uptake, and N fertilization rates were reduced from 450 kg N ha-1 for RNR to 225 to 265 kg N ha 1 for ONR. High maize yields were maintained at 12.6 to 13.5 Mg ha 1 which were twice the yield from typical farmers' practice. As a result, apparent N recovery increased from 29% to 66%, and estimated N losses decreased significantly for the ONR treatment compared to the RNR treatment. In conclusion, the in-season root-zone N management approach was able to achieve high yields, high NUE and low N losses. 展开更多

Starting with the concept of growth and capacity underinvestment archetype, a new and operational systems thinking model is developed. The conceptual systems thinking model includes a set of causal structure that can explain various modes(including the growth and failure modes) of business performance of small and medium construction companies. Mainly the three components – projects,finance and capacity – and the understanding of their nexus(or causal inter-relationships) are found to be sufficient to reveal different performance modes in construction business. Further, the three operational aspects, namely, the business growth or decline process;the situation of financial and other capacity resource consumption; and the management of projects, finance and other capacity resources have been identified as the interrelated core and integral aspects of construction business.The three inter-related core aspects could actually include and explain different possible range of business situations,policies and practices in a construction company. 展开更多

From start-up, growth, maturity to decline, a company will experience a complicated process, in which the company needs to change its anticipated objective, structure and business model with the variation of environment, in order to survive and gain sustainable development. Based on an enterprise's life-cycle theory, this paper makes use of both qualitative and quantitative models to do an empirical study on measurement of the life-cycle of 1135 Chinese public companies from 1991 to 2002, both FoxPro and SAS programs are used to process data. At the end of the paper, the author comes up with a company's value goals and relevant competence strategies in every stage of life cycle, with the purpose to promote the Chinese public companies' sustainable development. 展开更多
