In recent years, mountain regions are attracting great attention to Indian tourists in general and foreign tourists in particular. The potential mountain resources for promoting green tourism are enormous in the form of natural and cultural heritage such as biosphere reserves, flora and fauna, lakes and rivers and traditional rural resources. In order to utilise tourism industry market, uncontrolled numbers of tourists and related haphazard infrastructural facilities in the vulnerable mountain regions pose serious environmental implications. The ecological pressures are threatening land, water and wild life resources through direct and indirect environmental impacts together with generation of solid and liquid wastes, so green tourism is emerging as an important task in order to develop new relationship between communities, government agencies and private sectors. The strategy focuses on ecological understanding, environmental protection and ecodevelopment. The major attributes of the green tourism include environmental conservation and education and distribution of income to local people based on strong partnership. Various knowledge systems go a long way for achieving the goals of the green tourism, which creates awareness about the value of environmental resources. Mountains have ecological, recreational, educational and scientific values, which need to be utilised in sustainable way. Various tourist activities and facilities need to be diversified in order to achieve multiple benefits including scientific field excursion, recreation in natural and cultural areas, community festivals and sport tourisms. Green tourism considers tourism development as an integral part of a national and regional development. The paper discusses the social, economic and environmental dimensions of the green tourism with particular reference to village tourism development programme taking empirical evidences from the Himalaya. Such programme also minimises biophysical and human vulnerability and risks in mountain regions. The environmental consciousness campaign and introduction of code through multi- purpose Tourist Resource Centres are gaining currency in above context. 展开更多

This study employs the Tourism Ecological Footprint Model to meticulously evaluate the green development status of mountainous scenic areas, specifically focusing on the Wenfeng Mountain Scenic Area. The overarching aim is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the ecological impact stemming from tourism activities. The evaluation encompasses complex calculations and analyses of the ecological footprint, ecological carrying capacity, and ecological surplus. In the case study of Wenfeng Mountain Scenic Area, the findings indicate a notable state of ecological surplus in the current stage of tourism development. The specific quantitative results reveal a surplus, indicating that the ecological impact of tourism activities is well within the sustainable carrying capacity of the region. This implies that despite substantial tourism activities, the ecological environment of the Wenfeng Mountain Scenic Area remains effectively protected and maintained. The ecological surplus signifies a balance between tourism development and the preservation of the local ecosystem, which is crucial for the sustainable development of the region. Moreover, this study delves into the nuances of the ecological components, providing detailed breakdowns of the ecological footprints attributed to various tourism-related activities, including accommodation, transportation, dining, sightseeing, and shopping. These specifics offer a nuanced understanding of the ecological dynamics associated with diverse tourism-related factors. The meticulous assessment of Wenfeng Mountain Scenic Area's green development status has several significant implications.Decision-makers can draw insights into the delicate balance that is required between tourism promotion and environmental conservation. The ecological surplus suggests that current practices align with sustainable development goals andprovide a positive model for similar regions. However, this study also draws attention to some critical limitations in the Tourism Ecological Footprint Model. The detailed results highlight challenges related to model applicability, data collection, and calculation methods, stressing the need for further refinement and validation.Acknowledging these limitations is crucial for refining the model and ensuring its robust application in diverse geographical contexts. In conclusion, this study delivers a granular understanding of the green development status of mountainous scenic areas, specifically the Wenfeng Mountain Scenic Area. The detailed results serve as a rich reference for decision-makers and researchers, offering new insights into specific aspects of tourism-related ecological impacts. As avenues for future research, refining the evaluation indicators and improving the data collection and analysis methodologies will be pivotal for advancing the precision and reliability of green development assessments. 展开更多

As a pivotal element within the modern service industry, tourism possesses the capacity to reconfigure regional economic dynamics, alter resource flow patterns, and notably influence urban green development.By establishing an evaluation index system for urban green development across 60 prefecture-level cities within the Yellow River Basin from 2006 to 2021,this study employs the spatial Durbin model to delve into the nonlinear relationship between the tourism economy and urban green development.Furthermore,it investigates the heterogeneous impact of the tourism economy on green development across varying levels of urbanization. This study reveals several key findings:(1)Both tourism economy and urban green development exhibit significant spatial clustering, with tourism economy showing“midstream>downstream>upstream”and urban green development showing“downstream>midstream>upstream”.(2)The tourism economy exerts a non-linear positive influence on the green development of cities, characterized by a non-linear inverted“S”shape in its direct impact and a nonlinear“S”shape in its indirect impact.(3)As urbanization rate level escalate, the positive influence of the tourism economy on urban green development follows a non-linear trajectory, initially declining before ascending.Specifically, when the urbanization rate level is below the first threshold value, the tourism economy notably promotes urban green development. However, between the first and second threshold values, this positive impact diminishes, only to rebound beyond the second threshold value. 展开更多

Green development has become an important concept and an effective way to sustainably develop the tourism industry. Studying tourism green development promotes the construction of regional ecological civilizations and sustainable development. We systematically reviewed research on green development in the tourism industry and divided this body of work it into two stages: a germination exploration stage under the concept of sustainable development; and initial development under the green development concept. In addition, some important green development research methods, conceptualization and connotation of green development, an index system of green development evaluation to measure efficiency and influencing factors, green development models, and regulations and standards of enterprise green development countermeasures are discussed. This review affirms China's positive exploration and reference meaning to developing countries, and finds that the majority of research is qualitative; quantitative analyses are limited and a relevant theoretical system has not yet formed. Future research should deepen the content, enrich research methods and construct a theoretical system. 展开更多
