This paper is divided into two parts： a reflection about the diachronical and dialectical relationship between the ＂Art of Construction＂ and the ＂Building Science＂, in terms of capability to evaluate structural c...This paper is divided into two parts： a reflection about the diachronical and dialectical relationship between the ＂Art of Construction＂ and the ＂Building Science＂, in terms of capability to evaluate structural characteristics and conservative conditions of traditional buildings, especially for buildings of historical or artistic value, using a peculiar approach for planning modem construction （Building Science） or the ancient complex of rules and logics to which a specific building monumental pertains （Art of Construction）. The second part reports a case study of application of this second methodology of approach, concerning the St. Mary＇s Church of the Immaculate Conception of Montecalvario in Naples, an important monumental church situated into the historic centre of Naples, built between 1718 and 1726 by one of the greatest Italian architects of the XVIII century, Domenico Antonio Vaccaro. The building, that presents all the structural and lexical peculiarities of Neapolitan Baroque （central plan, altimetric development of concentric volumes, plastic virtuosity of structural and formal apparatuses）, finds in its formal conception and in its stylistic conception part of its structural vulnerabilities. The study examines the understanding of cracks affecting the Church, also in relation to around historic buildings, in order to determine a diagnosis and to understand how this condition of structural vulnerability could be combined with future seismic strain, having high local seismicity and damages suffered during the earthquakes of the last three centuries.展开更多

As for the expressions ＂logic is an art＂ or ＂the art of logic,＂ then they are only metaphors or some kind of ＂facon de parler＂ used in serious scientific discourse. One of my aims here is to trace （on the base of as authentic texts as a commentator literature） the line of development of dichotomy ＂logic as an art--logic as a science＂ and to demonstrate that both these feat uses of logic have fundamental historical roots and play very important conceptual role in any theorizing about logic. Normization, i.e., the system of norms is a structure that defines the group of elements containing the norm values for the requirements of a certain resource. Resources comprise of materials, machines and labor. All ...Normization, i.e., the system of norms is a structure that defines the group of elements containing the norm values for the requirements of a certain resource. Resources comprise of materials, machines and labor. All the requirements of the measure units of the resources are given statically and with the discrete data. Thus, every slight change in the expense list item reference causes a change in norm and our norm is not flexible and features a discrepancy with the real life situations. In order to achieve a higher level of preciseness and to speed up the technological processes of planning and norming the engines of a company that lead to the regulation of the system, the discrete elements of the working （time-related） norms should be replaced by the dynamic ones. This is made possible through setting up norms models that in turn can be presented by formulae in the vectoral system. The use and implementation of the new technologies in terms of production, computer science and cybernetics provides for upgrading the norm requirements. New working tasks in turn require a new norm standardization, which can be applied to the hydrodemolition of concrete constructions by means of water robots that use high pressure water jets.展开更多

During the last half-decade, par...DNA-based approaches to systematics have changed dramatically during the last two decades with the rise of DNA barcoding methods and newer multi-locus methods for species delimitation. During the last half-decade, partly driven by the new sequencing technologies, the focus has shifted to multi-locus sequence data and the identification of species within the frame-work of the multi-species coalescent （MSC）. In this paper, I discuss model-based Bayesian methods for species delimitation that have been developed in recent years using the MSC. Several approximate methods for species delimitation （and their limitations） are also discussed. Explicit species delimitation models have the advantage of clarifying more precisely what is being delimited and what assumptions we are making in doing so. Moreover, the methods can be very powerful when applied to large multi-locus datasets and thus take full advantage of data generated using today＇s technologies [Current Zoology 61 （5）： 846-853,2015].展开更多
