Experimental studies were conducted on the tensile behaviors and fracture modes of TiAl(Ti-46.5Al-2Nb-2Cr) alloys with near gamma(NG) equiaxed and near lamellar(NL) microstructures over a temperature range from room temperature to 840 ℃ and a strain rate range of 0.001-1 350 s-1.The results indicate that the alloys are both temperature and strain rate dependent and they have a similar dependence.The dynamic strength is higher than the quasi-static strength but almost insensitive to high strain rate range of 320-1 350 s-1.The brittle-to-ductile transition temperature(BDTT) increases with increasing strain rates.NG TiAl yields obviously,while NL TiAl does not.Below BDTT,as the temperature increases,the fracture modes of the two alloys change from planar cleavage fracture to a mixture of transgranular and intergranular fractures,and finally to totally intergranular fracture. 展开更多

The blunting line equation is very important in J-integral testing because of its indispensability in the determination of valid data and JIC value. The blunting line equation in current standard has had a larger relative error in depiction of the crack blunting compared to the experimentally measured results. By analyzing the blunting process of the crack tip according to the D-B model, a new form of blunting line was obtained on the base of the path independence of J-integral, i.e., J=1.25(σs+Sf)/(1+n)·WSZ. Experimental results show that this equation is more precise to describe the crack blunting than those in current standards. 展开更多

Taking the Huaihe to the Nvshanhu segment of the Tanlu( Tancheng-Lujiang) fault zone as the main research target to explore whether there has been new activity since the late Quaternary,and based on the interpretation... Taking the Huaihe to the Nvshanhu segment of the Tanlu( Tancheng-Lujiang) fault zone as the main research target to explore whether there has been new activity since the late Quaternary,and based on the interpretation of remote sensing images and repeated surface investigations,we excavated trenches at the sections where the tectonic landform is significant,identified and recorded the deformation patterns of the fault and analyzed the activity behavior. Samples of new activity and deformation were collected and oriented slices were ground based on the samples ' original state to make the micro structural analysis and demonstration. All of the above research shows very clear linear tectonic geomorphology along the fault,three trenches across the fault zone all revealed new deformation traces since late Quaternary. The latest stratum dislocated by the fault is the late Quaternary and Holocene. The main slip mode is stick slip,as represented typically by fault scarps,wedge accumulation,the faults and the filled cracks and so on. In general,it shows the characteristics of brittle high-speed deformation and belongs to the prehistoric earthquake ruins. The above understanding was confirmed partially by microscopic analysis. In addition,the similarities and differences and the possible reasons for the characteristics of the latest activities of the Tancheng-Lujiang fault zone in the north and south of the Huaihe River regions are also discussed in this paper. 展开更多

The space block search technology is used to determine a connected three-dimensional fracture network in polygonal shapes,i.e.,seepage paths.After triangulation on these polygons,a finite element mesh for 3D fracture network seepage is obtained.Through introduction of the generalized Darcy's law,conservative equations for both fracture surface and fracture interactions are established.Combined with the boundary condition of Signorini's type,a partial differential equation(PDE) formulation is presented for the whole domain concerned.To solve this problem efficiently,an equivalent variational inequality(VI) formulation is given.With the penalized Heaviside function,a finite element procedure for unconfined seepage problem in 3D fracture network is developed.Through an example in a homogeneous rectangular dam,validity of the algorithm is verified.The analysis of an unconfined seepage problem in a complex fracture network shows that the proposed algorithm is very applicable to complex three-dimensional problems,and is effective in describing some interesting phenomenon usually encountered in practice,such as "preferential flow". 展开更多

Thermal cracking occurs in the plastic packaging materials due to the presence of moisturized micro-cavities in the material.The moisture resident in the micro-cavities gives rise to the internal vapor pressure that drives the thermal expansion of micro-cavities as temperature rises.The plastic packaging materials are considered a class of thermo-hyperelastic materials,thus allowing the micro-cavities to thermally expand to the substantial extent before the cracking failure.The micro-cavities can be moisture-abundant(i.e.,wet) or substantially dry when cracking occurs.Cracking appears to be almost certain in the presence of wet cavities.The possibility of cracking in dry cavities turns to be two-sided:when the initial volume fraction of the micro-cavities is relatively small,cracking cannot occur in the dry cavities regardless of the phase transition temperature;when the initial cavity volume fraction is relatively large,cracking tends to occur in the dry cavities especially when the phase transition temperature is large.Because of the two-sided cracking possibility,the dry-cavity cracking mode presents a scenario that might reveal the mechanism of popcorning-type cracking failure in plastic packaging materials. 展开更多

Darcy's law only applying to the flow domain is extended to the entire fracture network domain including the dry domain.The partial differential equation(PDE) formulation for unconfined seepage flow problems for discrete fracture network is established,in which a boundary condition of Signorini's type is prescribed over the potential seepage surfaces.In order to reduce the difficulty in selecting trial functions,a new variational inequality formulation is presented and mathematically proved to be equivalent to the PDE formulation.The numerical procedure based on the VI formulation is proposed and the corresponding algorithm has been developed.Since a continuous penalized Heaviside function is introduced to replace a jump function in finite element analysis,oscillation of numerical integration for facture elements cut by the free surface is eliminated and stability of numerical solution is assured.The numerical results from two typical examples demonstrate,on the one hand the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method,and on the other hand the capability of predicting main seepage pathways in fractured rocks and flow rates out of the drainage system,which is very important for performance assessments and design optimization of complex drainage system. 展开更多
