王国维在他的小说研究中并未明示其受动于易学的依据。但是,善用易者不言易,因为易已如盐化水融入他的思想了。细究起来,易学思想在他的小说理论中起码有两方面的表现:一是苦痛一解脱的创作动机理论,二是"观人生"的创作储备理论。

A Comparison of the Bacterial Microflora between Coastal Sites in Qingdao, P.R. China and Loch Fyne, Scotland

Aerobic, heterotrophic bacteria, recovered from two sites located on the west coast of Scotland, were compared to cultures obtained in a similar way from industrial, aquacultural and clean sites in the vicinity of Qingdao, Shandong, P.R. China. Gram-negative bacterial cultures were examined by BIOLOG-GN, and the data analysed by the simple matching (S SM) and Jaccard coefficients (S J) and unweighted average linkage clustering using NTSys. The output revealed that 20% of the bacteria, namely, Acinetobacter johnsonii, Aquaspirillum dispar, Pseudomonas spp. (two groups), Sphingobacterium sp., Vibrio sp., V. campbellii, V. mimicus and V. hollisae, were common between the two geographical locations. However, the study revealed shortcomings with the BIOLOG-GN system for the study of coastal Gram-negative bacteria.

A Comment on Katherine Mansfield＇s A Dill Pickle

Katherine Mansfield is a world famous woman master of short stories in English literature. A Dill Pickle is one of her short stories published in 1917, describing the encounter between a young woman and a young man who have been lovers six years ago and their lost love and changes over the years. The paper conludes that romantic love is dependent upon circumstances and the convergence of certain character traits at a particular time.

Nature of Valuational Consciousness in Good Life

I make an attempt in the paper to argue in favor of the person-centered view of good life, where becoming a good person involves seeking to qualitatively transform oneself into a worthy human being. I maintain that becoming fully a person and respecting others as persons are achievements that are not assured for all of us. Thus, for the purpose I prepare the ground for an account of good life that rests on valuational consciousness. I propose that one may ascribe valuational consciousness to a person who is a value-sensitive rational being striving to attain a kind of inner transparency. Evidently, to say that a person has valuational consciousness is to stress the values, which are built into personal consciousness. The life of a person, whether that of truth, courage, nobility, justice, kindness, is a life marked by ego transcending personal consciousness that reaches out to humanity at large. And such a repository of values enables a human being to attain the ideal of good life. The ideal of good life, I contend, consists of attaining the higher order posture of selflessness--a posture of inner transparency. It is to shake off the egocentric partiality that characterizes our usual attitudinal stance towards one another.

Global Bioethical Prevention of the Collision of Biological and Cultural Evolution on Miserable Human Survival

With the cultural myth that science can only determine the way the world ＂is＂ （facts）, while humanities, social sciences, lawyers, philosophers, and theologians must determine the way the world ＂ought to be＂ （values）, those in position of global-, national-, and local-political power make major decisions of the use （or non-use） of scientific knowledge and technology. As a result, the human being has created a non-scientifically based cultural environment that is affecting his ability to survive. In effect, cultural evolution is occurring more rapidly than biological evolution that can adapt to the changes brought about in the physical and psycho-social environments. In a pluralistic cultural world, where each society has generated a different view of human nature and different ethical values, the use, misuse, or non-use of scientific and technological advances are derived from these unscientific views of human nature. Since all life depends on limiting interacting environmental and ecological factors, it is imperative that scientific information be used to govern how to minimize irreversible effects on life-sustaining ecological factors, but also scientific information bearing on understanding human nature ought to be integrated into a ＂global bioethics＂. While ethical values cannot be directly derived from scientific factors, it is also true that human values or our ＂ought＂ cannot be maintained in ignorance or defiance of the facts or the ＂is＂.

Research Progress on Ecological Risk Assessment based on M ultifunctional Landscape

The unreasonable utilization and trade-offs of the multifunctional landscape is one of the important causes leading to ecological risk.Quantifying the relationship,heterogeneous process and driving mechanism between landscape function and human well-being can provide a scientific basis for achieving a win-win situation of regional development and ecological protection,and it is also an important issue for relevant scientific research.In this paper,we reviewed the current state of knowledge regarding landscape function and ecological risk,identified the feedback mechanisms among landscape change,landscape function,human well-being and ecological risk,constructed the ecological risk assessment framework based on landscape functions,and sorted out the key scientific issues and research trends.The interconnections between the multifunctional landscape,human well-being,and ecological risk comprise an important scientific issue in ecological risk assessment.However,there is a lack of understanding of the spatial-temporal characteristics of landscape function trade-offs,and there is also a lack of systematic and standardized methods for the identification and comprehensive evaluation of landscape functions.Exploring ecological risk management and the methodologies that integrate the two processes of nature and humanity is an inevitable trend for future research.Coupling landscape structure,function and process into ecological risk assessment,as well as focusing on the combination of human well-being,landscape function trade-off and ecological risk control policy design are important issues to be studied.
