An Information Systems Project Management Course Using a Service-Learning Model

This paper describes the implementation of an Information Systems （IS） capstone project management course that is a requirement for graduating seniors in an undergraduate Computer Information Systems （CIS） program at a regional university. The description provides a model which includes the culmination of students＇ academic training in an IS curriculum which is part of a Bachelor of Business Administration （BBA） program in an accredited college of business. The course requires an application of technical and business skills, as well as systems development and project management skills--while students are working on an actual IS project for an external sponsoring organization. Rationale for implementing this type of course includes the benefits it provides to the students, the project sponsors, and the IS department providing the course. Feedback from the course is used as integral part of the C1S curriculum assessment process used for accreditation purposes.

Chicken soup for teaching and learning ESD

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is becoming a popular procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of superficial mucosal lesions,and has the advantage of en bloc resection which yields a higher complete resection and remission rate compared to endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR).However,the learning process of this advanced endoscopic procedure requires a lengthy training period and considerable experience to be proficient.A well framed training protocol which is safe,effective,easily reproducible and cost-effective is desirable to teach ESD.In addition,the training course may need to be tailored around settings such as ethnicity,culture,workload,and disease incidence.In Asian countries with a large volume of early gastric lesions which need endoscopic treatment,endoscopists would be able to learn ESD expanding their skills from EMR to ESD under the supervision of experts.Whereas,in Western countries due to the low incidence of superficial gastric tumors,trials have utilized simulator models to improve learning.In Korea,the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(KSGE) is playing an important role in training many gastroenterologists who have shown an interest in performing ESD by providing an annual live demonstration and a nationwide tutoring program.The purpose of this article is to introduce our ESD tutoring experience,review the published papers related to this topic,and propose several suggestions for future directions in teaching and learning ESD.

＂Welcome to Oklahoma＂： A Service-Learning Project in an Undergraduate Technical Writing Course

The present project provides information about a service-learning project in an undergraduate technical writing course assigned in the Fall Semester of2011 at a small public university in Oklahoma. Students in the course were assigned to ＂performance teams＂ and tasked with interviewing faculty advisors and officers of international student organizations on campus. Based upon the results of these interviews, the members of each team were asked to compose documents or deliver presentations that met the expressed needs of the student organizations. The assignment was designed to allow students an authentic experience in assessing the needs of a particular audience and in working with students from a different cultural group. The outcomes of the assignment and the challenges expressed by the students were discussed. The participation of students in the international student organizations was discussed in terms of university retention

Facility management has been widely used in corporations during the last decade and has undergone major changes. Some companies have decided to no longer outsource such services, managing more closely and assertively with a focus on cost reduction and delivery quality. At this point, there are many difficulties in the implementation of a structured maintenance, which results in generating effort, costs and delay in servicing internal customers. Currently, there are very few specialized courses in facility management in Brazil. The search for skills has become increasingly important taking into account increasingly competitive markets. The main objective of this article is to show the importance and the challenges of a good facility management, the impact on the Core business of the company and the risks of an implementation without well-defined processes.

In this paper, we conduct research on the sports teaching reform in colleges and universities based on theory of the multiple intelligences and interactive teaching. In colleges and universities curriculum reform as an opportunity to introduce outward bound training in colleges and universities sports curriculum, not only can make the college students in the smooth finish school and get good physical and psychological education, and to the healthy positive attitude in the face of social reality, rational choosing, reasonable employment, by providing the best social services, fully realize their social values and personal goals to obtain satisfactory teaching effect. We adopt primary advantage of the multiple intelligences and interactive teaching model to form the novel revised teaching pattern for the college PE classes which will holds significant meaning.
