It draws upon a creativity process that considers three "dimensions" or "disciplines" (3D) critical for creative organizations--within discipline expertise, out of discipline knowledge, and a disciplined creative process. The paper first explores the Cobb-Douglas production function as a relevant tool for modeling the 3D creative process. The next part discusses the 3D process as a production function, which is modeled following the well-known Cobb-Douglas specification. Last, the paper offers implications for future research on disciplined creativity/innovation as a method of improving organizations' creative performance. The modeling shows that labor and investment can readily enter into the 3D creativity process as inputs. These two inputs are meaningful in explaining where innovation outputs come from and how they can be measured, with a reasonable theoretical decomposition. It is not true that the more capital investments in the creativity process, the better the level of innovation production, but firm's human resource management and expenditures should pay attention to optimal levels of capital and labor stocks, in a combination that helps reach highest possible innovation output.展开更多

The chance to attain locally organized supply chains is presumably higher where there is a higher concentration of human, natural and financial capitals. After a literature review about social capital and energy supply chain (prg. 1), we investigate the instruments for public direct financial incentive (prg. 2) and the development of the public intervention plans in the agro-energy sector within the Local Development Plans (LDP) by Local Action Groups (LAG). Then, we present the case study of the Apulia Region (prg. 3) based upon a unique dataset, specifically built that collects LDP data relative to social capital. We finally propose a new methodological approach that makes use of social network analysis investigating the net of relationships underneath the territorial organization of the LAGs and the local supply chains. Results seem to show that site specificities affect the sustainability of biofuels supply chains, and that effect seems to be reciprocally bounded, thus calling for the inclusion of such measures when planning new policies, and for analytical approaches encompassing historical perspectives. Finally, we draw the conclusions.展开更多

Machakos was the epitome of overpopulation and resource degradation in the 1950s, but has since thrived. The Boserupians view Machakos as an illustration of how population growth can solve rather than exacerbate the vicious cycle of poverty and resource degradation. The question arises whether Machakos is unique. This study investigates the role of social capital in Machakos. Using principal component analysis, the authors estimate various dimensions of social capital and find significant differences between Machakos and two other Kenyan regions particularly when it comes to the formation of associations.展开更多

This study adds another dimension for human resource accounting field. It is costs, human resource management related costs. Research topic is intellectual capital and human resource costs in human resource accounting. Research question is that human resource accounting is technic of management accounting. Research methodology is the case study approaches. Main result of study is that human resource costs are recorded in financial accounting and this information might be used by human resource leaders and other executives. Further, human resource of company may be recorded as intellectual capital in balanced sheet. Quantity of record might become total compensation of firms. In conclusion, HR accounting is management accounting technic with its support for information role and decision-making role.展开更多

The latter is defined as a pathway promoted by a plurality of public and private actors, in the for-profit and non-profit sectors, who find that relationships and social cohesion are the drivers for the construction of shared territorial governance. This study integrates an extensive literature review with data from longitudinal empirical research. Authors have adopted the methodology of qualitative research-based case study. In particular, this paper focused the analysis on a project of territorial governance promoted in the Marches region of Italy. This region was selected as a case study, because it is emblematic of the Italian context; the territory is characterized by small businesses diffused throughout the socio-economic fabric and by the proactive role taken by local governments. The perspective offers a powerful instrument for raising awareness of the gaps that local policymakers should address through their initiatives in the knowledge economy.展开更多

In the knowledge economy era, the quickness of technological developments and globalization has changed the structure of business world. Consequently, this situation creates opportunities and also threats for companies. Companies should attach importance to innovation in order to maintain sustainable growth and gain competitive advantage. According to Barsky and Marchat (2000) in the new economy the value of a company is not found with its tangible assets, revenues, financial ratios or market share, but with its intellectual capital, organizational culture, customer loyalty and brand equity. According to resource-based view of the company; the resources are fundamental factors of competitiveness and performance. These resources are regarded as strategic assets, which include tangible and intangible assets. Intellectual capital which is becoming one of the important commercial assets of the 21 st century is a way of describing a company's intangible assets that are vital for company success. Intellectual capital consists of human capital, relational capital and structural capital. Intellectual capital which is a core strategical resource of a company is playing a crucial role in a company's innovation performance. This study attempts to analyze the interrelationships between intellectual capital and innovation in the context of resource-based view of the company. This study also focuses in particular on the effects of human capital, relational capital and structural capital which are the components of intellectual capital, on innovation by integrating the relevant theoretical and empirical evidence.展开更多

The authors emphasize the need for integration of advanced industrial engineering in the next generation of manufacturing systems, which responds to new trends of production, innovation and advanced technology. This integration represents a sustainable development, so that humanization of work are increased, more effective use of natural and energy resources are achieved and production costs are reduced. Trends in the products manufacturing must meet both industrial engineering as well as production management. The development trends in the industrial engineering in manufacturing organizations must use methods and tools of advanced industrial engineering to achieve competitiveness. The second part of this article deals with specification of these approaches in next generation of production systems.展开更多

Therefore, 21 century has seen a fierce competing for talents all over the world. However, the high turnover rate of knowledge workers becomes a prominent issue for HR managers since it could be the loss of the organizations if the employees who master the core skills and customers leave. Under this circumstance, this paper will focus on answering the question of how to effectively retain knowledge workers, in order to help organizations to keep the core competitiveness. Through literature review of knowledge workers' characteristics and needs, this paper highlights the importance of retention and analyzes the reason for knowledge workers leaving and finds that it is important to improve a sense of loyalty and employees' organizational commitment to retain knowledge workers. It is also important for the organization to adopt motivation strategies and methods to retain knowledge workers, in order to avoid the drain of core knowledge capital, thus maintaining core competence of organizations.展开更多

It is necessary to levy a resource tax that reflects the real cost of coal resources. The results of our calculations show that from 1992 to 2009, the theoretical ad valorem coal tax rate determined in accordance with the user cost fluctuated between 2 and 14 percent. A further analysis of the impact of an ad valorem coal tax on the Chinese macroeconomy with a dynamic computable general equilibrium (CGE) model shows that a tax rate of 5-12 percent for coal resources would better reflect the cost of depletion of coal as a scarce resource, with the macroeconomic impact falling within the acceptable range. Therefore, resource tax reform is significant for China's sustainable development.展开更多
