During historic period, since the water traffic played an important role, it was very important to form a cross-horizontal net of water carriage route.... In China, most directions of river flowing are from west to east. During historic period, since the water traffic played an important role, it was very important to form a cross-horizontal net of water carriage route. Canals should be dug so as to make up the lack of north-south river. Tongji Grand Canal, dug in the first year of Daye (605 A.D.) in the Sui Dynasty, was the important component of north-south system of Grand Canals in China. It promoted economic and social development of the Sui, Tang and Song dynasties (605 A.D.-1279 A.D.). As Tongji Canal (i.e. Tongji Grand Canal) flowed across the Huaibei Plain, which is aggraded by abundant mud and sand deposit resulted from the Huanghe (Yellow) River flooding, many traces (such as old channel) and human culture heritages were buried under mud-sand. Tongji Canal was silted up, and disappeared in the Jin Dynasty (1115 A.D.-1234 A.D.). From then on, there were many different stories about the flowing route of the canal in historical literature. Based on space-bone and air-bone remote sensing imagery, we attempt to search the old channel of Tongji Canal, and supplement historical record. The paper discusses transformation process of Tongji Canal’s traffic function, and resumptively summarizes the reasons of the transformation, which results from synthetic function of physical geographical, political, economic, and social conditions. 展开更多

The alluvial fan of the Shahdad in Derakt-Tangan River is one of the biggest alleviation in total dry area in the north eastern Kerman. This alluvial fan is formed effected by different materials erosion in drainage basin of Derakt-Tangan River and laying these materials in the final part of this drainage basin called Lut. Tectonics activate with efficacy in the place of the settlement of the alluvial fan. The region, which is being studied, is one of the active tectonic regions. The severe tectonic activities in the studying region have been proved by several observations. One of the most important evidences in the region is the various faults in the area and implies to fan alluvium (from head to end), study line profile in past and present. The most important fault of the region is the great fault of "Nay band", the southern fault of Shahdad and the series of faults having the direction of north-western to south-eastern and northern and southern. The drainage basin of alluvial fan of the Derakt-Tangan River leads from east to Kavir-lut, from west to the Baghe-Bala Mountains and Kalisaky from The aim of this article is the morphology of Derakt-Tangan north to the altitutes of Dahran and from south to the mountains of Jeffan river fan indicative on neotectonics in the region. 展开更多

Hypothesized summative anal physiology score correlates but poorly predicts incontinence severity

METHODSA retrospective study of incontinent patients who underwent anal physiology (AP) was performed. AP results and Cleveland Clinic Continence Scores (CCCS) were extracted. An anal physiology score (APS) was developed using maximum resting pressures (MRP), anal canal length (ACL), internal and external sphincter defects and pudendal terminal motor latency. Univariate associations between each variable, APS and CCCS were assessed. Multiple regression analyses were performed. RESULTSOf 508 (419 women) patients, 311 had both APS and CCCS measured. Average MRP was 51 mmHg (SD 23.2 mmHg) for men and 39 mmHg (19.2 mmHg) for women. Functional ACL was 1.7 cm for men and 0.7 cm for women. Univariate analyses demonstrated significant associations between CCCS and MRP (P = 0.0002), ACL (P = 0.0006) and pudendal neuropathy (P < 0.0001). The association between APS and CCCS was significant (P < 0.0001) but accounted for only 9.2% of the variability in CCCS. Multiple regression showed that the variables most useful in predicting CCCS were external sphincter defect, pudendal neuropathy and previous pelvic surgery, but only improving the scores predictive ability to 12.5%. CONCLUSIONThis study shows that the ability of AP tests to predict continence scores improves when considered collectively, but that a constructed summation model before and after multiple regression is poor at predicting the variability in continence scores. 展开更多

This route conversion will not only have an impact on the maritime business activity in the Suez Canal, but also the Egyptian economy in several aspects when the number of vessels passing through the Suez Canal and the Indian Ocean decreases. The aim of this study is to analyze the impact of the opening of the Northern Sea route on maritime sector of the Egyptian economy. The traditional southern route through the Suez Canal between the East Asia and the Europe is referred as benchmark routte, general cargo ship and container ship are respectively selected as benchmark ships, which are analyzed and compared with Arctic NEP from fuel consumption, insurance, icebreaker fees and cost for SOLAS amendment, etc. The study reveals that Arctic NEP highly reduces general cargo ships' sailing time, container ships' fuel consumption, and contributes to shipping's sustainable development. 展开更多

Dissolved nutrient concentration in the Huanghe (Yellow) River at Lijin was monitored during a water-sediment regulation period and a subsequent rainstorm from 14 June to 19 July, 2005. This study provides detailed information on nutrient concentrations in the Huanghe River during the water-sediment regulation and rainstorm periods, and is of significance for the downstream area of the Huanghe River and the Bohai Sea. The average concentrations of nitrate, nitrite and ammonia were 304.7 μmol/L, 0.19 μmol/L, and 1.10 μmol/L, respectively, while the average concentrations of dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP) and dissolved silicate (DSi) were 0.23 gmol/L and 122.9 ktmol/L, respectively. Nutrient concentrations during the water-sediment regulation period were mainly influenced by the dilution effect, floodplain effect and sediment resuspension while dilution and erosion effects were the main factors during the rainstorm. The fluxes of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), DIP and DSi during the water-sediment regulation and rainstorm periods accounted for 20.4%, 19.5%, 16.7% and 4.97%, 6.45%, 5.47% of the annual nutrient fluxes, respectively. Discharge was the main factor influencing the fluxes of nutrients during both the water- sediment regulation and the rainstorm periods. 展开更多

Raising public awareness and participation of the local communities in the environmental protection has become a major objective of sound development programs. In the framework of the canal environmental protection program of Ho Chi Minh City, we had developed 32 public awareness meetings for 14 districts with about 2,726 participants from year 2012 to 2015. The program had been organized in various forms such as training, brochure, leaflet, poster, propaganda gifts, face-to-face discussion, study visits, survey questionnaire. The results of the program can add substantial value to the canal environmental protection program of the city. The information gained through public comments can help identify key issues and solutions for the authorities as district and city levels. It was determined that most important outcomes from the public participation were educating the public, incorporating public values, assumptions and preferences into decision making process. 展开更多

This paper presents the possibilities of job optimization in waterway with multiple locks and canals, in order to increase the system productivity. Safe navigation in such complex waterway system is very demanding. Some of the problems that need to be solved are: How to control traffic in a way that vessels move in opposite directions; How to resolve possible conflicts in case that more vessels try to acquire particular lock at the same time; How to avoid possible deadlocks; How to ensure the vessel passage in the shortest possible time? It is necessary to apply adequate control policy to avoid deadlocks and blocks the vessels' moving only in the case of dangerous situation. The motion of vessels can be described as the set of discrete events and states. Herein we propose deadlock avoidance algorithm for complex waterway system with multiple key resources and we use multiple re-entrant flowlines class of Petri net (MRF^PN). The solution represents deadlock prevention supervisor in a sense that vessels are stopped only in a case of immediate dangerous situation in dense traffic. The goal of this paper is to find optimal, conflict and deadlock free job schedule in CWS. In this sense, the authors developed the algorithm which integrates MRF^PN with a genetic algorithm. The algorithm deals with multi-constrained scheduling problem with shared resources. The final goals are minimization the total travel time of vessels through the waterway system. 展开更多
