From a chronological view, research on this fields evolved from structuralist approaches to the incorporation of cognitive frameworks, which have offered more profound explanations of semantic. In terms of the content, two key theories—Metaphor Theory and Image Schema—dominate the semantic analysis of phrasal verbs. Metaphor Theory is primarily applied to explain metaphorical meanings, while Image Schema is often applied to interpret spatial meanings. Additionally, two distinct perspectives—considering the verb and particle separately or as an integrated unit—are prevalent among domestic scholars. The paper concludes by suggesting directions for future research in this area.展开更多
