Medical procedures are inherently invasive and carry the risk of inducing pain to the mind and body.Recently,efforts have been made to alleviate the discomfort associated with invasive medical procedures through the u...Medical procedures are inherently invasive and carry the risk of inducing pain to the mind and body.Recently,efforts have been made to alleviate the discomfort associated with invasive medical procedures through the use of virtual reality(VR)technology.VR has been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for pain associated with medical procedures,as well as for chronic pain conditions for which no effective treatment has been established.The precise mechanism by which the diversion from reality facilitated by VR contributes to the diminution of pain and anxiety has yet to be elucidated.However,the provision of positive images through VR-based visual stimulation may enhance the functionality of brain networks.The salience network is diminished,while the default mode network is enhanced.Additionally,the medial prefrontal cortex may establish a stronger connection with the default mode network,which could result in a reduction of pain and anxiety.Further research into the potential of VR technology to alleviate pain could lead to a reduction in the number of individuals who overdose on painkillers and contribute to positive change in the medical field.展开更多

However, research to date has been insufficient to confirm the...Background: The flipped classroom has generated considerable interest in nursing education in the last few years, especially in higher education in China. However, research to date has been insufficient to confirm the effectiveness of the flipped classroom approach. Since most of the Chinese studies are published in Chinese journals, they may not be easily accessible to international researchers. Therefore,this meta-analysis aimed to review the effectiveness of a flipped classroom in nursing education both in English and Chinese databases.Objective: The aim of the present study was to identify the robust available evidence about the effectiveness of flipped classrooms in nursing education through a systematic review and meta-analysis.Methods: A systematic search of English databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Science Director,CINAHL and Google Scholar, and Chinese databases, including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI), WanFang Data, VIP Information and Chinese Biomedical Literature(CMB), were conducted to identify peer-reviewed studies that met the inclusion criteria. Two reviewers independently performed study identification with Endnote X7 software and used Excel to extract data. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed with Cochrane Collaboration's risk of bias tool, and a meta-analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3 software following the guidelines proposed by PRISMA reporting standards with the protocol register No. CRD42016041826.Results: A total of 29 studies were included in systematic review. There was a significant postintervention improvement in academic performance both in knowledge with a pooled random-effects standardized mean difference of 1.13 and skills with a pooled random-effects standardized mean difference(SMD) of 1.68. Students' self-learning abilities were also improved with a pooled random-effects SMD of 1.51 compared with traditional lecture. In the subgroup analysis, we found that the effect sizes had high fidelity in terms of nursing degrees and research settings. There was a high rating of flipped classroom pedagogy from teaching evaluations, study satisfaction, study attitude and improvement in critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Conclusions: These results indicated that a flipped classroom might help nursing students improve in knowledge, skills, attitudes, self-learning, study satisfaction, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.We recommend adopting this approach for nursing education reform. There is a call for robust empirical research and unification of appraisal standards for further support of the effectiveness of the flipped classroom. Furthermore, a meta-regression analysis is also recommended to explore the sources of heterogeneity in included studies.展开更多

BACKGROUND Traditional paper-based preoperative patient education is a struggle for new nurses and requires extensive training.In this situation,virtual reality technology can help the new nurses.Despite its potential...BACKGROUND Traditional paper-based preoperative patient education is a struggle for new nurses and requires extensive training.In this situation,virtual reality technology can help the new nurses.Despite its potential benefits,there are studies on patient satisfaction but there is limited information on the usability of virtual reality(VR)technology for new nurses in giving preoperative education to patients.AIM To investigate the impact on satisfaction,usability,and burnout of a system using VR technology in preoperative patient education.METHODS The study involved 20 nurses from the plastic surgery ward and 80 patients admitted between April and May 2019.Each nurse taught four patients:Two using traditional verbal education and two using virtual reality.The System Usability Scale,After-Scenario Questionnaire,and Maslach Burnout Inventory(MBI)were employed to evaluate the impact of these education methods.RESULTS The VR education groups showed a statistically higher satisfaction than the traditional verbal education groups.Among the three subscales of the MBI,emotional exhaustion and personal accomplishment improved statistically significantly.VR was also better in terms of usability.CONCLUSION This study suggests VR enhances usability and reduces burnout in nurses,but further research is needed to assess its impact on depersonalization and objective measures like stress and heart rate.展开更多

Many localities in Cameroon suffer due to ...The present work analyzed the contribution of Cameroon’s public contracts and territorial planning policies toward the reduction of classroom disparities across the country. Many localities in Cameroon suffer due to misallocation of classrooms on one hand and inefficient public contracting-execution system on the other hand. This paper uses a hypothetico-deductive method to understand the nexus of public contracting-territorial planning within the educational sector in Cameroon. To do this we made use of existing infrastructural data collected from various Ministerial Departments and public contracts data from 2016 to 2022. Findings show that there is a great disparity of existing classrooms, injustice in the allocation of classrooms and bad governance practices in the award and execution of allocated classrooms that directly contribute to this uneven repartition. At the national scale, the Centre and Littoral regions seem to be saturated with about 20,574 and 10,436 classrooms respectively, the Far North which is part of the Priority Education Zone is in dying need of about 11,293 classrooms while on the local or regional scale these two saturated regions show some degree of insufficiency in term of available classrooms. Therefore, much needs to be done by the Cameroonian authorities in order to ensure inclusive, equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all as stipulated by the Sustainable Development Goal 4.展开更多
In order to solve the problem that it is difficult for students to find self-study classrooms because of the limited classroom resources, combined with the current situation of informatization in colleges and universi...In order to solve the problem that it is difficult for students to find self-study classrooms because of the limited classroom resources, combined with the current situation of informatization in colleges and universities, a feasible method of students counting in classrooms based on head detection is proposed. This method first collects the scene images in the classroom at regular intervals based on the existing examination monitoring system, and then uses the offline trained AdaBoost cascade detector to detect the head candidate region in the images. Then, the trained CNN-SVM model is used to further identify the head, and finally the identification results are processed and the number of students in the classrooms is counted. The test and practice show that the query system for the idle situation of self-study classrooms constructed by coordinating the classroom seat capacity, classroom scheduling data and the students counting in the classroom based on the above method can easily query the current crowded degree of the students in the classrooms, which plays a good guiding role for students to find self-study classrooms. The method has strong reference and promotion significance for solving similar problems in other universities.展开更多
The corrosion rate is a crucial factor that impacts the longevity of materials in different applications.After undergoing friction stir processing(FSP),the refined grain structure leads to a notable decrease in corros...The corrosion rate is a crucial factor that impacts the longevity of materials in different applications.After undergoing friction stir processing(FSP),the refined grain structure leads to a notable decrease in corrosion rate.However,a better understanding of the correlation between the FSP process parameters and the corrosion rate is still lacking.The current study used machine learning to establish the relationship between the corrosion rate and FSP process parameters(rotational speed,traverse speed,and shoulder diameter)for WE43 alloy.The Taguchi L27 design of experiments was used for the experimental analysis.In addition,synthetic data was generated using particle swarm optimization for virtual sample generation(VSG).The application of VSG has led to an increase in the prediction accuracy of machine learning models.A sensitivity analysis was performed using Shapley Additive Explanations to determine the key factors affecting the corrosion rate.The shoulder diameter had a significant impact in comparison to the traverse speed.A graphical user interface(GUI)has been created to predict the corrosion rate using the identified factors.This study focuses on the WE43 alloy,but its findings can also be used to predict the corrosion rate of other magnesium alloys.展开更多

Therefore, much needs to be done by the Cameroonian authorities in order to ensure inclusive, equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all as stipulated by the Sustainable Development Goal 4.
文摘In order to solve the problem that it is difficult for students to find self-study classrooms because of the limited classroom resources, combined with the current situation of informatization in colleges and universities, a feasible method of students counting in classrooms based on head detection is proposed. This method first collects the scene images in the classroom at regular intervals based on the existing examination monitoring system, and then uses the offline trained AdaBoost cascade detector to detect the head candidate region in the images. Then, the trained CNN-SVM model is used to further identify the head, and finally the identification results are processed and the number of students in the classrooms is counted. The test and practice show that the query system for the idle situation of self-study classrooms constructed by coordinating the classroom seat capacity, classroom scheduling data and the students counting in the classroom based on the above method can easily query the current crowded degree of the students in the classrooms, which plays a good guiding role for students to find self-study classrooms. The method has strong reference and promotion significance for solving similar problems in other universities.
文摘The corrosion rate is a crucial factor that impacts the longevity of materials in different applications.After undergoing friction stir processing(FSP),the refined grain structure leads to a notable decrease in corrosion rate.However,a better understanding of the correlation between the FSP process parameters and the corrosion rate is still lacking.The current study used machine learning to establish the relationship between the corrosion rate and FSP process parameters(rotational speed,traverse speed,and shoulder diameter)for WE43 alloy.The Taguchi L27 design of experiments was used for the experimental analysis.In addition,synthetic data was generated using particle swarm optimization for virtual sample generation(VSG).The application of VSG has led to an increase in the prediction accuracy of machine learning models.A sensitivity analysis was performed using Shapley Additive Explanations to determine the key factors affecting the corrosion rate.The shoulder diameter had a significant impact in comparison to the traverse speed.A graphical user interface(GUI)has been created to predict the corrosion rate using the identified factors.This study focuses on the WE43 alloy,but its findings can also be used to predict the corrosion rate of other magnesium alloys.
