The pain was gradually aggravated and so severe that she could only walk on the tiptoes. On examination, her tongue proper was reddened with whitish fur, the pulse was thready, and with no abnormal findings of the sole and calcaneus revealed on X-ray films. The condition was due to deficiency of yin,and obstruction of blood stasis in the channels and collaterals. Prescription of acupoints: bilateral Fengchi (GB 20) and Taixi (KI 3).展开更多
Objective To study the association between the epidermal growth factor(EGF) gene and intelligence in patients with major depression.Methods Intelligence measurement using Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(WAIS) was pe...Objective To study the association between the epidermal growth factor(EGF) gene and intelligence in patients with major depression.Methods Intelligence measurement using Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale(WAIS) was perfor-med on 120 unrelated patients with major depression and 46 control subjects.Blood was collected from all subjects for extraction of genomic DNA.Four single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs) in the EGF gene were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP) and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS).Results Mean scores of both score lang and score task,two subtests in WAIS,differed significantly between major depression patients and controls(P<0.0001).Quantitative trait analysis showed that the genetype of rs2250724 was closely associated with score lang and score task in major depression patients.The associations were still significant after 10 000 permutations.Conclusions Although preliminary,our results provide evidence for association between the EGF gene and intelligence in patients with major depression.Genetic variation in the EGF gene may increase the susceptibility of major depression.展开更多

Methods: The cardiac function indices including the left stroke index (LSI), ejection fraction (EF), heart rate (HR), diastolic pressure mean (DPM), systolic pressure mean (SPM), left ventricle end-diastolic volume (LVDV), effective circulating volume (ECV), resistance total mean (RTM) and blood flow smooth degree (BFSD) were deter-mined in 65 patients with major depressive disorders and 31 healthy normal controls. The clinical symptoms were assessed with Hamilton depression scale (HAMD) and Hamilton anxiety scale (HAMA). Results: In patients with depression without anxiety, LSI, EF, LVDV, DPM, SPM, ECV, BFSD were significantly lower than those in controls, while RTM was higher than that in controls. Patients with comorbidity of depression and anxiety showed decreased LVDV, ECV, BFSD, and increased HR in comparison with the controls. The anxiety/somatization factor score positively correlated with LSI, EF, LVDV, but negatively correlated with RTM. There was negative correlation between retardation factor score and DPM, SPM, LVDV. Conclusion: The study indicated that there are noticeable changes in left ventricle preload and afterload, blood pressure, peripheral resistance, and microcirculation in depressive patients, and that the accompanying anxiety makes the changes more complicated.展开更多

Objective: To identify the protective effects of hypovolemic hypotension preconditioning on cardiopulmonary function after myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury and to explore the possible mechanism.Methods: Twenty-f...Objective: To identify the protective effects of hypovolemic hypotension preconditioning on cardiopulmonary function after myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury and to explore the possible mechanism.Methods: Twenty-four male white rabbits were randomly assigned to two groups. In the control group, ischemia/reperfusion animals(Group I/R, n=10) were subjected to thirty-minute occlusion of left anterior descending coronary artery and two-hour reperfusion. Animals in hypovolemic hypotension preconditioning group (Group HHP, n=14) experienced brief systemic ischemia preconditioning through blood withdrawl to lower blood pressure to 40%-50% of the baseline before myocardial ischemia/reperfusion. Hemodynamic parameters were recorded. Blood sample was taken to measure superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA) and nitrogen monoxide (NO) changes with blood gas analysis. Myocardium specimens were sampled to examine apoptosis-related gene interleukin-1 beta converting enzyme (ICE) mRNA. Results: Cardiac mechanical function and lung gas exchange remained stable in Group HHP with a significant increase in NO level; while in Group I/R without preconditioning, cardiopulmonary dysfunction was present after 2 h reperfusion associated with a significant reduction in NO formation and an increase in MDA (P<(0.001)). There was negative expression of ICE mRNA in the two groups.Conclusions: Hypovolemic hypotension preconditioning significantly improves cardiopulmonary function and increases NO formation and the protective benefit associated with hypovolemic hypotension preconditioning of the heart may be regulated through NO mediated mechanism.展开更多
