It is demonstrated that the thermal residual stresses can result in asymmetrical stress distributions and matrix plasticity. The thermal residual stresses decrease the stress transfer in tension and enhance the stress transfer in compression. The fiber volume fraction has more important effects on the thermal residual stresses and the stress distributions under tensile and compressive loadings than the fiber aspect ratio and the fiber end distance. It is demonstrated that the stress strain partition parameter can be used to describe the stress transfer from the matrix to the fiber. The variation of the second derivation of the stress strain partition parameter can be used to determine the elastic modulus, the proportion limit, the initial and final yield strengths. In the presence of thermal residual stress, these yielding properties are asymmetric and are influenced differently by the material structure parameters under tensile and compressive loadings.展开更多

The model, based on the Mori and Tanaka method, shear-lag, computational model, Nielsen-Chen model and Miwa’s model is used to predict the elastic behaviour of basalt short fiber reinforced with Al alloy composites. The Al/basalt Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) contain basalt short fiber from 2.5% to 10% in steps of 2.5 wt.% and are fabricated using squeeze infiltration technique. The effects of fiber length and orientation on elastic properties of Al/basalt MMCs are investigated. A comparison between the experimental data and the theoretical data based on physical models is made, and the significance of the findings is discussed. The results show that as short basalt fiber content was increased from 2.5% to 10% by wt.%, an improvement in Young’s modulus of 13.26% has been observed. Optical microscopy was used to examine the general microstructure and fiber distribution in the composite produced. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) was performed on the fractured surface to understand the failure mechanisms.展开更多

In the corresponding finite element method(FEM) simulations a modified coupled thermomechanical constitutive model is employed to describe the mechanical properties of metallic glass(MG)matrix, and geometrical models of the WP/MG composite rod are established based on its inner structure. The deformation and failure characteristics of the rod and target materials are analyzed in detail, and the influences of various factors on the ballistic performance of the WP/MG composite long rod are discussed. Related analysis demonstrates that the penetrating performance of the WP/MG rod is similar to that of the tungsten fiber/metallic glass matrix(WF/MG) composite long rod, i.e., a "self-sharpening" behavior also occurs during the penetration process, and correspondingly its penetrating capability is better than that of the tungsten heavy alloy(WHA) rod. However, the mass erosion manner of the WP/MG rod is different and the erosion is relatively severe, thus its penetrating capability is a little lower compared with that of the WF/MG one. Moreover, the impact velocity and the target strength have significant influences on the ballistic performance of the WP/MG composite rod, whereas the effect of initial nose shape is very little.展开更多

Excessive melting temperature made the gravity segregation of Ti remarkable in ingot. The effect of Ti content on the melting point for AI-Si-Ti ternary system was not as sensitive as that for Al-Ti binary system. The Al-12Si-1Ti filler metal showed good ability to form brazing foil during rapid cooling, ductile fracture surface and similar shear strength to conventional Al-12Si filler metal. Moreover, the Al2 03 reinforcements on initial surface could be covered by the Al-12Si-1Ti filler metal without interfacial gaps after sessile drop test. For Zn-9.5Al-0. 5 Ti braze alloy, severe vaporization of Zn and severe segregation of Ti Occurred. During wettability test for traditional Al-12Si and Zn-9.5Al-0. 5Ti, although some Si or Zn could penetrate into the composite, interfacial gap still remained. The prepared Cu-19Al-1 Ti interlayer consisted of primary phase of Al4Cu9 and network Cu-Al-Ti ternary intermetaUic compound, showing poor ability to form foil and very brittle nature. The results showed that the SiCp?024AI MMC is more susceptible to corrosion than its matrix alloy in 3.5% NaCI. For 2024AI, the anodized coating provides excellent corrosion resistance to 3.5% NaCI. The anodized coating on the SiCp?024AI provides satisfactory corrosion protection, but it is not as effective as that for 2024AI because the structure of the anodized layer is affected by the SiC particulates.展开更多

The microstructure of the particulate segregation region consists of alumina particulate and Al alloy matrix with the Al 2Cu and MgAl 2O 4. It contains more and smaller alumina particulates compared with the base material region. The TLP bonded joints have the tensile strength of 150 MPa ~200 MPa and the shear strength of 70 MPa ~100 MPa . With increasing tensile stress, cracks initiate in the particulate segregation region, especially in the particulate/particulate interface and the particulate/matrix interface, and propagate along particulate/matrix interface, througth thin matrix metal and by linking up the close cracks. The particulate segregation region is the weakest during tensile testing and shear testing due to obviously increased proportion of weak bonds (particulate particulate bond and particulate matrix bond).展开更多

文摘The corrosion resistance of 2024 Al and SiC particle reinforced 2024 Al metal matrix composite (SiCp?024AI MMC) in 3.5% NaCl solution was investigated with electrochemical method and immersion test, and the corrosion protection of sulfuric acid anodized coatings on both materials was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results showed that the SiCp?024AI MMC is more susceptible to corrosion than its matrix alloy in 3.5% NaCI. For 2024AI, the anodized coating provides excellent corrosion resistance to 3.5% NaCI. The anodized coating on the SiCp?024AI provides satisfactory corrosion protection, but it is not as effective as that for 2024AI because the structure of the anodized layer is affected by the SiC particulates.
文摘Transient liquid phase (TLP) bonded aluminium based metal matrix composite (MMC) joints can be classified into three distinct regions, i.e. the particulate segregation region, the denuded particulate region and the base material region. The particulate segregation region is the weakest during tensile testing and shear testing due to obviously increased proportion of weak bonds (particulate particulate bond and particulate matrix bond).
