Poplar (Populus spp.) wood meal was liquefied by phenol in the presence of sulfuric acid as a catalyst. After the liquefied products were cooled, alkaline catalyst and formaldehyde were added. The mixture was kept at (60?) C for 1h and then was heated to (85?) C for 1h. The influence of molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol (F/P) was investigated. The results showed when the molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol was over 1.8, the PWF adhesives had high bond quality, bond durability and extremely low aldehydes emissions.展开更多

Scanning e-lectron microscopy (SEM) results show that there are a lot of fibrous materials distributing in the interface, which connects the dispersed phase with the matrix and obtains better interfacial strength for prominent mechanical properties. The addition of compatibilizers results in the decrease of crystallinity of the blends and the disappearance of an obvious yield phenomenon, which was proved by the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) test and X-ray diffraction (XRD) characterization Although the crystallinity of the blends decreases, the tensile strength and tensile strain of the blends significantly increases, especially for the HDPE/GTR/DCP/HY-2045 blends, which is possibly attributed to the good compatibility of the blends owing to the in-situ interface crosslinking. In addition, it is found that the compatibilizing HDPE/GTR blends shows a higher tan^ peak temperature and a broaden transition peak for GTR phase.展开更多

By investigating the morphology of mesophase spheres and the structure of the MCMB carbonized at 1000℃ for lh using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and XRD, it was found that phenolic resin accelerated the formation and coalescence of mesophase spheres. The novolak resin was allylated and then copolymerized with BMI. The structure of allyl novolak and reaction mechanism were analyzed by FFIR. Thermal and mechanical properties were characterized by using com- prehensive thermal analyzer (DSC-TG) and strength tester, respectively. The results showed that high molecular weight of novolak was advantageous for heat-resistance, but was unfavorable for the bending strength. High allyl content improved the heat-resistance but lowered the bending strength. When the molecular weight of novolak was 450 and allyl content was 50%, the best resin system with good heat-resistance and bending strength was obtained. FT-IR was adopted to characterize the molecular structure of the novolac-type phenolic resin and the benzoxazine-phenolic copolymer BP31. In order to understand the curing process of the copolymers, the curing behavior and curing kinetic characteristics were studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the catalytical effect of phenolic hydroxyl on the curing behavior of copolymers was investigated. To investigate the thermal properties of this resin, the thermal degradation behaviors of the cured samples were studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) method, and glass-transition temperatures (Tg) of the cured copolymers were also evaluated by DSC. The dynamic Ozawa method was adopted to determine the kinetic parameters of the curing process as well. The activation energy is 78.8 kJ/mol and the reaction rate constant is in the range from 40.0 to 5.2 (K/min)" according to reaction temperatures. The Ozawa exponent decreases from 2.4 to 0.7 with the increase of reaction temperature, and curing mechanism is expounded briefly according to the results. TG result shows that the highest char yield of copolymers is 50.3%. The highest Tg of copolymers is 489 K, which is much higher than that of pure benzoxazine resin.展开更多

Two types of hybrid organic-inorganic phenolic resins modified with either silica nanoparticles or boron were used to design a thin insulating layer perfect- ly covering the ferromagnetic particles. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry confirmed an incorporation of silica or boron into the polymer matrix, which manifested itself through an improved thermal stability of the hybrid resins verified by thermogravimetric-differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) analysis. The core-shell particles prepared from the ferromagnetic powder particles and the modified hybrid resins were further compacted to the cylindrical and toroidal shapes for the mechanical, electrical and magnetic testing. A uniform distribution of the resin between the ferromagnetic particles was evidenced by scanning electron microscope (SEM) analysis, which was also reflected in a rather high value of the electrical resistivity. A low porosity and extraordinary high values of mechanical hardness and flexural strength were found in SMC consisting of the iron powder and phenolic resin modified with boron. The coercive fields of the prepared samples were comparable with the commercial SMCs.展开更多

Hydrogen bonds, formed between phenolic resin and nano-SiO2 in alcohol, made nano-SiO2 disperse easily in EP/MNA paint through phenolic resin without being treated by supersonic vibration. When the mass ratio of PF to EP in paint is 3:7, the formed composite paint film can be cured in 2 min at 170 ℃ . When the mass ratio of nano-SiO2 to PF in paint is 3:100, the property of high humidity resistance of the composite paint is the best, meeting the requirement of varying ratio of resistance less than 0.1% after experiment on high humidity resistance. SEM analysis shows the surface of the composite paint film is smooth, glassy, tight and homogeneous, without acicular air holes.展开更多
