We hypothesized that the increased respiratory carbon loss under high night temperatures(HNT) could be compensated for by increased photosynthesis during the day following HNT exposure. Two rice genotypes, Vandana(HNT-sensitive) and Nagina 22(HNT-tolerant), were exposed to HNT(4 ℃ above the control) from flowering to physiological maturity. They were assessed for alterations in the carbon balance of the source(flag leaf) and its subsequent impact on grain filling dynamics and the quality of spatially differentiated sinks(superior and inferior spikelets). Both genotypes exhibited significantly higher night respiration rates. However, only Nagina 22 compensated for the high respiration rates with an increased photosynthetic rate, resulting in a steady production of total dry matter under HNT. Nagina 22 also recorded a higher grain-filling rate, particularly at 5 and 10 d after flowering, with 1.5- and 4.0-fold increases in the translocation of ^(14)C sugars to the superior and inferior spikelets, respectively. The ratio of photosynthetic rate to respiratory rate on a leaf area basis was negatively correlated with spikelet sterility, resulting in a higher filled spikelet number and grain weight per plant, particularly for inferior grains in Nagina 22. Grain quality parameters such as head rice recovery, high-density grains, and gelatinization temperature were maintained in Nagina 22. An increase in the rheological properties of rice flour starch in Nagina 22 under HNT indicated the stability of starch and its ability to reorganize during the cooling process of product formation. Thus, our study showed that sink adjustments between superior and inferior spikelets favored the growth of inferior spikelets, which helped to offset the reduction in grain weight under HNT in the tolerant genotype Nagina 22.展开更多

The mean monthly variations of the temperatures at these levels are characterised and established. The magnitudes of the annual trends of the mean temperatures for each site for the selected barometric levels are studied and statistically tested using Mann-Kendall rank statistics at different significance levels. The temperature trends at different pressure levels show that the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere are warming, while the middle troposphere is cooling which is consistent with the findings of other studies. The variations in upper air temperature observed in this study can be attributed to a range of factors, including increasing greenhouse gas concentrations, changes in atmospheric circulation patterns, variations in solar activity, aerosols and volcanic eruptions, and land use and land cover change.展开更多

It is difficult to observe in the field and its population is small. The present study reports a new distribution site in Nanxiong County, in northern Guangdong Province, where observations of an active nest were made from 4 May to 14 July 2012, the first time consecutive observations have been made for a period of more than two months. The adults flew away from the nest at night, with a peak at 19:00-20:00 and returned in the mornings with a peak at 04:30-05:30. The peak time for feeding young was at 05:00-05:30, accounting for 26.5%of total feeding activities. No feeding occurred from 10:00 to 16:00. The results of our study of its behavior explain why the White-eared Night Heron is usually observed in the evening just before dark, or in the morning before sunrise, at least during the breeding season. There were about 67 days from hatching to fledging, longer than the fledging time of most heron species. This study is the first to cover the entire period of parental care and fills a gap in previous knowledge.展开更多

One of its central themes is that once involved in war, a person is doomed to undergo a transformation from a human being to a soulless body. To understand this theme, we shall have to travel with Eliezer, the protagonist as well as the fi rst person narrator, through the long nights of living in fear of hunger, terror, and violence. Hopefully, the leg of this journey would reveal how the consistent exposure to traumatic experiences can compel a person to abandon the soul as his or her emotional and spiritual homebase.展开更多

In this paper, using two early-maturing cotton varieties as experimental materials, night temperature increase was stimulated in the field using far-infrared quartz tubes set in semi-mobile incubators and compared with the normal night temperatures (control) in order to investigate the effects of night temperature on the cotton fiber cellulose synthesis during secondary wall thickening. The results showed that the activity of sucrose synthase (SuSy) and sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS) quickly increased and remained constant during the development of cotton fiber, while the activity of acid invertase (AI) and alkaline invertase (NI) decreased, increased night temperatures prompted the rapid transformation of sugar, and all the available sucrose fully converted into cellulose. With night temperature increasing treatment, an increase in SuSy activity and concentration of sucrose indicate more sucrose converted into UDPG (uridin diphosphate-glucose) during the early and late stages of cotton fiber development. Furthermore, SPS activity and the increased concentration of fructose accelerated fructose degradation and reduced the inhibition of fructose to SuSy; maintaining higher value of allocation proportion of invertase and sucrose during the early development stages of cotton fiber, which was propitious to supply a greater carbon source and energy for cellulose synthesis. Therefore, the minimum temperature in the nightime was a major factor correlated with the activity of sucrose metabolism enzymes in cotton fiber. Consequently, soluble sugar transformation and cellulose accumulation were closely associated with the minimum night temperature.展开更多

文摘Once,in 2007,the authors had written:regarding to the endangerment of the White-eared Night Heron (Gorsachius magnificus),it would be evidentially to say that no longer the status of the bird is to meet the Criteria EN C1 but more likely still marginally meet EN C2a(i),and hence the bird might be currently remained amongst those Endangered (EN),with caveats that,if any bird could have been found in an area outside the range of any known subpopulation,it will then warrant a lower threat status. Now,it is time for due consideration.
文摘Aim To describe accumulating frames characteristics of CCD camera as a night vision detector. Methods Utilizing CCD external trigger, computer video capture card and image processing software, the image accumulation was made. Results The detection of the static object image whose illuminance on the CCD FPA(focal plane array) was less than 3 7×10 -5 lx was realized and the image's resolution of 300?TV lines was achieved. Conclusion This experimental system can provide a kind of night vision device capable of detecting the static object at low light level and with low cost compared to an image intensifier.
文摘Traveling is one major theme of Fitzgerald's novel Tender Is the Night. This fashionable activity for the 1920 s Americans is represented in the novel as ostensibly bearing different meanings to the main characters, but a deeper look would reveal that it is unanimously resorted to as a weapon against the spiritual barrenness caused by the cult of business, and more importantly, as a way to the experience of rootedness.

文摘The effects of different levels of CaCl 2 on photosynthesis under low night temperature(8°C) stress in peanuts were studied in order to find out the appropriate concentration of Ca2+through the artificial climate chamber potted culture test. The results indicated that Ca2+,by means of improving the stomatal conductivity of peanut leaves under low night temperature stress, may mitigate the decline of photosynthetic rate in the peanut leaves. The regulation with 15 mmol L-1CaCl 2(Ca15) was the most effective, compared with other treatments.Subsequently, the improvement of Ca2+on peanut photosynthesis under low night temperature stress was validated further through spraying with Ca15,Ca2+chelator(ethylene glycol bis(2-aminoethyl) tetraacetic acid; EGTA) and calmodulin antagonists(trifluonerazine; TFP).And CaM(Ca2+-modulin) played an important role in the nutritional signal transduction for Ca2+mitigating photosynthesis limitations in peanuts under low night temperature stress.
文摘Night is Elie Wiesel's classic memoir of the Holocaust. Hopefully, the leg of this journey would reveal how the consistent exposure to traumatic experiences can compel a person to abandon the soul as his or her emotional and spiritual homebase.
文摘Long Day's Journey Into Night is considered one of the best drama Eugene O'Neill has ever written. It was published and staged posthumously as per the will of the playwright and won him a fourth Pulitzer Prize. This paper tries to analyze this tragedy from conventional perspective of tragedies and concludes that the Tyrone family in the play serves as the protagonist and the play conforms to traditional structure of a tragedy, though no deaths and the like are found in the end.
文摘Late Neoproterozoic adakitic magmatism within the Eastern Arabian Nubian Shield has been dated at633.2±9.0 Ma(2σ).These magnas intrude the forearc Ad Dawadimi Basin, which is composed of metapelitic schists and greywacke along with ophiolitic melanges of boninitic affinity which underwent inversion and deformation by^620 Ma.This adakitic magmatism, while intruding parts of the Ad Dawadimi Basin, predates this deformation, but is possibly coincident with basin closure. As adakitic magmatism requires melting of an amphibolite or eclogitic source, empirical and experimental constraints require anomalously hot supra-subduction zone mantle.Considering that this magmatism immediately predates basin inversion, these magmas possibly pinpoint the timing of the slab breaking, marking the terminal stages of arc magmatism, terrane accretion and the influx of hot oceanic asthenospheric mantle. This influx of hot asthenospheric mantle may also be responsible for postcolltsional A-type magmatism.

文摘Temperature is one of the key factors that influence cotton fiber synthesis at the late growth stage of cotton. Consequently, soluble sugar transformation and cellulose accumulation were closely associated with the minimum night temperature.
