The contribution of nitrogen derived from glycine-N to total plant N was investigated. The total plant N of the three species treated with N was significantly greater (P < 0.05) than the control treatment. Also, seedlings from all the three species had significantly more total N as NH4+-N (P < 0.05) than at least two of the four treatments with glycine-N. However, for all species, differences in total N among treatments with a mixture of glycine-N and NH4+-N were mostly not significant. The contribution of N derived from glycine-N to plant total N content for all species increased with increasing glycine-N:NH4+-N ratio in the treatment solution. These results indicated that agricultural plants could effectively use organic nitrogen from organic nitrogen sources (e.g., glycine) and from organic and inorganic N mixtures (e.g., a glycine-N and NH4+-N mix). There were also genotypic differences in glycine-N and NH4+-N uptake by agricultural species.展开更多

It can be distinguished by a combination of the following characteristics: head scaled to above eyes; cheeks with 5 or 6 rows of scales; lateral line scales 51–52; 5 rows of scales above the lateral line; 4 and 6 cuspidate teeth in front of upper and lower jaws, respectively, followed by 2 rows of blunter teeth posteriorly; gill rakers on first arch 12 to 15; D XI–XII +9–11; A III +8–9; the first two dorsal spines very short, the third to fifth extended, filamentous in the young; the first pelvic ray filamentous; silvery pink with dark blue spots on back and sides; caudal fin pinkish; other fins bluish or pinkish; the blue spots generally disappear in large specimens. The present report of P. caeruleostictus suggests that its distribution in Chinese coastal waters may be attributed to human effort, since this species is unlikely to have expanded naturally from the eastern Atlantic to the South China Sea,with no other records from the Indian or Pacific Oceans. We recommend that a precautionary approach should be adopted for the management of P. caeruleostictus.展开更多

[Method]Chinese kale was grown in hydroponic under three different Light Emitting Diode(LEDs) conditions [red∶blue=8∶1(8R1B), red∶blue=6∶3(6R3B) and red∶green∶blue=6∶2∶1(6R2G1B), 12 h light, 50 μmol/(m2·s)]. Then its growth and quality indices including root and shoot fresh weight and dry weight, concentrations of soluble protein, vitamin C, nitrate, soluble phenols, flavonoids, soluble sugar, free amino acids, and activity of nitrate reductase were measured. [Result] There was no significant difference in plant height, diameter of flower stalk and leaf number among three LED treatments. The fresh weight of shoot, root and plant in 8R1 B and 6R2G1 B was significantly higher than in 6R3 B. The dry weight of shoot and plant in 8R1 B was significantly higher than in 6R3 B. The concentrations of vitamin C, soluble protein and soluble sugar in flower stalk of 6R3 B treatment were significantly higher than those in 8R1 B and 6R2G1 B, while there was no remarkable difference in concentrations of reducing sugar, soluble phenol, flavonoids and free amino acid among the three treatments. The nitrate concentration in flower stalk of 6R3 B was significantly lower than in the other two treatments, and the activity of nitrate reductase in6R3 B was significantly higher than in the other two treatments. [Conclusion] The LED treatment of red:blue=6:3 was more suitable for the growth of Chinese kale.展开更多
