This experiment is elemental step to search relations between a small mobile robot and human. This experiment is "How can a small mobile robot approach to individuals distances of foreigners (non-Japanese) up to the point where foreigners (non-Japanese) do not feel like approaching any more". It focuses on a small mobile robot and identifies distances at which the robot can approach to individuals, particularly adult foreign male. This paper clarifies how the individual distances change by the robot's speed and angle of approach varies.展开更多

Different nations have different humors. The paper is to analyze the definition of humor, the difference between British and American humor, and take James Thurber's stories to show the typical American humor. The English appear to be deeply serious people. English humor is more conserved, subtle, and silent. The British are known for their sense of humor. However, it is often difficult for foreigners to understand their jokes. The key to understanding British humor is to know that the British often use "understatement". American humor tends to be more "obvious" and less oblique, and can sometimes be considered by other English speaking cultures to be over the top and ridiculous.展开更多

The Putin-term Russian economy is inadvance, and it reminds of the great economy of the old Soviet Union. For that reason, Putin was given the nicknameof the new Russian Tsar. Putin is well-liked by the Russian citizens; as a person he is liked by a vast majority of theRussian population. Putin is indepted his great personality both to the successes achived from the Chechen War andto the numerous successes he has achieved in the economic stabilization since he undertook the management of Rsia. It is true that today Russia has no enough political and economical power to maintain the bipolar world as Ria has an economy of smaller than the one-tenth of the US economy. Nonetheless, Russia is still the secondsuper power of the world as she has nuclear weapons and more than 20 satellites in the space. Russia, today, is aself-sufficient country in having the technology of launching her own satellites, and the very first inventors of therocket technology are Russians. Today, Turkey has a lot to learn from Russia. Putin has been able to attract foreigncapital. The removal of the bureaucratic obstacles affecting the foreigners can be an example to this. Today, Turkeychooses the way of selling of the lands to attract the foreign capital. I think the selling of the lands is not a sensiblepolicy to attract foreign capital, and if the Russian model is adopted more efficient results can be obtained.展开更多

According to the location of the lesion, it can be divided into internal and external hordeolum. The early symptoms are redness, swelling, and pain in the eyelid. In severe cases, the condition can be accompanied with ipsilateral headache and swelling of the pre-auricular lymph node. Since TCM bloodletting has remarkable effect for treating hordeolum at the early stage, we would like to recommend this simple, easy and effective treatment to doctors who are interested in physiocracy.展开更多

With it, knowledge is transferred and diverse teams emerge in the subsidiaries abroad. However, expatriation management and diversity management have been separated areas so far. Thus, the readiness to use expatriation as an integral element of an overall diversity strategy has been evaluated in an exploratory empirical study. For this purpose, semi-structured interviews have been conducted with both expatriates and HR (human resources) managers in six subsidiaries and the headquarters of an international mechanical engineering company. It was found that operative aspects of the expatriate management dominate the viewpoint of those involved. However, the findings also suggest that an implicit recognition of advantages that stem from the variety of individual employees exists. Willingness to systematically strengthen the exchange and learning process was detected. Based on these results, a new approach could be conceptualized and implemented. This provides various foci for further research.展开更多

Survey findings have revealed that the rapid influx of foreigners into South Korea since the year of 2000 has brought about a population increase that has surpassed initial government predictions. In contrast, Japan continues to restrict foreign nationals, in spite of sharp decreasing of national population. But why did such a difference in the respective policies of Japan and South Korea regarding foreign workers and immigration, and citizenship, suddenly come into existence after the year of 2000? This paper addresses this single question, and answers to the question that the differences of political opportunity structures around immigration policies in these two countries matter. Firstly, in Japan, the business sectors which want to have more immigrants have difficulties in reestablishing the strong relations with ruling parties but South Korean business still keeps the smooth relations with conservative governments. Secondly, Japanese labor unions regard immigrants as a serious threat against their members' jobs, but immigrant issues are understood as one of the human rights issues against which unions have to work. Thirdly, anti-immigrants groups in Japan are given chances to bring their message through traditional media such as TVs, but the doors of traditional media are closed for the groups in South Korea.展开更多

Historically it has been praised as the highest diplomatic act of the First World War that helped restore a home for the Jewish people in Palestine. Its critics point out that it planted seeds of future discord between the Palestinians and Israelis. There are also historians who suggest that what Britain really wanted was to secure vital geostrategic interests in the Eastern Mediterranean. The reality is that the process and decision making leading up to the Balfour Declaration was very complicated. This paper will focus on the role and influence of Britain's Prime Minister David Lloyd George whose leadership and personal drive made a difference in securing the Anglo-Zionist Alliance. By looking at the theories on the role of individuals on policy making and testing them on the case of Lloyd George, it will be demonstrated that, in spite of certain arguments to the contrary, leaders with right strength of personality, determination, strong beliefs, interest in foreign policy, and the right placement in the state bureaucracy can make a huge impact. These elements, combined with shifting attitude of British policymakers toward the imperial burdens during the early twentieth century, and rising influence of national movements enabled Britain to not only secure a vital strategic outpost in Palestine, but also restore therein a homeland for the Jews.展开更多

Zhao, given the Hebrew name of Moshe ben Avram, was fluent in Hebrew but also achieved success as a Confucian scholar familiar with the Chinese classics. He would have witnessed the destruction of his hometown by a catastrophic flood during the 1642 Siege of Kaifeng. In 1645, at the age of 26, he attained the jinshi rank in the Imperial Exams, in which only one in 10,000 can- didates was successful. A year later, he was appointed Minister of Justice for the newly installed Qing Dynasty and supervised the controversial decree forcing the Manchu tonsure onto the Han population as a mark of submission. In 1647, he was sent as an envoy to quell the unrest in Fujian province. After defeating bands of violent warlords funded by the notorious pirate Koxinga, Zhao set up a system of public schools to provide greater economic opportunity for the poor. After the death of his father, Zhao returned to Kaifeng for the three-year mourning period; during that time, he funded the restoration of the synagogue, which had been destroyed in the deluge, and the rectification of the Torah scrolls damaged in that catastrophe. Though the biographical facts are sparse, when these are juxtaposed with the dra- matic events that unfolded during his short lifetime, the potential for a fascinating historical fictionalization emerges. Moreover, many of those historical events in seventeenth-century China--climate change, elite corruption, populist revolt, xenophobia, terrorism, law and order, etc.--resonate with contemporary tropes. The story of "The Great Advisor" shows how a Jew in seventeenth-century China rose to national prominence at a time when Jews in Europe faced severe discrimination and persecution.展开更多
