Muscle capacity declines with age and this change negatively impacts physical function in older women. Exercise, specifically resistance training, is recommended to counteract these declines; however, the synergistic relationships between exercise, muscle capacity, and physical function are poorly understood. This review will summarize the literature regarding age-related changes in the aforementioned variables and review the research on the impact of resistance training interventions on muscle capacity and physical function in older women. Recommendations for future research in this area will be discussed.展开更多

This pilot study explored a causal mechanism for such relationship, and hypothesized that when FMS proficiency is improved, enhanced PA uptake will be found in children with and without disability. It was further hypothesized that improving FMS proficiency will have a greater impact on children with disability than those without disability. Methods: Participants include typically developing (TD) children without disability and children with cerebral palsy (CP), who were allocated to FMS training groups (CP-FMS n = 12, TD-FMS n = 13) and control groups (CP-C n = 12, TD-C n = 13). Training groups practiced five FMS (run, jump, kick, throw, catch) in weekly 45-min sessions for 4 weeks. Control groups had their regular physiotherapy (CP) or physical education (TD) sessions. FMS were evaluated using process- and product-oriented measures, and PA was measured using accelerometers, before and after training. Results: It was verified that training groups gained improvements in FMS while control groups did not. No significant changes in weekday PA were found. Increased weekend moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) was found in the CP-FMS group, while decreased weekend sedentary time was found in the CP-FMS and TD-FMS groups. The percentages of participants who exceeded the minimum detectable change (MDC9o) in MVPA and sedentary time were larger in children with CP than in children without disability. Conclusion: The findings suggest that improved FMS proficiency could potentially contribute to heightened PA and decreased sedentary time during weekends for children. Such effect of improved FMS proficiency on PA appears to be greater in those with physical disability than in those without disability. It is recommended that the findings of this pilot study should be further examined in future research.展开更多

Eighty Wistar rats are at eight weeks of age and weight 200 g which divided into 8 groups (n = 10) and treated for 12 weeks: GA: OVX + ND (normal diet), GB: OVX + ND + training, GC: sham + ND, GD: sham + ND + training, GE: OVX + HFD, GF: OVX + HFD + training, GG: sham + HFD and GH: sham + HFD + training. HFD consists of standard ration for rats with addition of 30% lipids. In training groups, physical training five training/week was conducted on a treadmill with adaptation period of three weeks up to 18 m/s for one hour, training were performed for 12 weeks. The sedentary animals remained in individual box. To analyze the effects of training and diet, tensile strength tests of the gastrocnemius muscles were conducted: the speed of 0.1 mm/min. Analysis of variance was performed to compare groups. The mean (SD) obtained for the maximum load (N) were: GA 57.77 (6.89), GB 62.74 (5.07), GC 49.45 (6.06), GD 59.42 (5.26) and GE 55.58 (4.72), GF 62.50 (4.56), GG 58.35 (4.54) and GH 56.67 (5.87), respectively. There were no differences for maximum load between surgeries (p = 0.004) and between treatments (p = 0.000). Differences were found also for the relationship surgery diet treatment (p = 0.007). For the variable stiffness (N/mm), there were not statistically significant differences: GA 5.03 (0.72), GB 5.08 (1.09), GC 5.17 (0.53), GD 5.35 (0.80), GE 5.52 (1.20), GF 5.36 (1.07), GG 4.83 (1.03) and GH 5.40 (0.73). For the toughness (N/mm), there were differences between treatments (p = 0.010) and the ratio diet treatment (p = 0.024): GA 455.00 (107.21), GB 541.96 (126.80), GC 394.97 (84.67), GD 566.90 (157.07); GE 424.63 (113.03), GF 478.07 (106.03); GG 517.44 (98.65) and GH 481.26 (129.45). OVX causes decrease in muscle maximum load; exercise treadmill provides increased muscular endurance, regardless of the diet and the OVX in groups, the increased resistance observed in the groups submitted to HFD can result in weight gain associated with the presence estrogen.展开更多

The research lays more importance on the students' experiencing and participating process by providing them with a series of guidelines as reference and assessment, but meanwhile the students have their freedom of choices and decision-making in many aspects. Integrative skills are practiced including linguistic skills, business-related skills, communicative skills, and technology-related skills. Specifically, the students are required to conduct a mini market research in their community. The topic of the research is negotiated, classified, and grouped in the entire class until each individual student belongs to a group. The project procedure and requirements are given to the students on weekly basis, including field of research, questionnaire, data collection and analysis, report, and the final group presentation. Based on their experience from the research, the students write down their reflections. Based on the observation of the instructor and students' feedback, the research found that students' expectations and teacher's roles varied in a number of aspects. A variety of knowledge and skills have been practiced. Problems have also been found in each step of the project.展开更多

A questionnaire is developed to ascertain the social determinants and risks of health aspects of sports in a sample of professionals and amateurs. Descriptive and correlation analysis were used for data analysis. The study identifies health risks connected with the intensive loading of locomotors system, poor working conditions which cause working trauma and diseases as well as low level of health culture regarding the effects of performance-enhancing drugs including anabolic steroids, stimulants, human growth hormone, and supplements. There are arguments that the quality of sport education will be achieved by addressing the study of sports ethics coupled with a study of management and law.展开更多
