We present the case of a previously healthy 40-year-old bodybuilder, referred to our Intensive-Care Unit of Hepatology for treatment of severe acute liver failure, with the suspicion of toxic hepatitis associated with anabolic steroid abuse. Despite the absence of symptoms and signs of congestive heart failure at admission, an anabolic steroid-induced dilated cardiomyopathy with a large thrombus in both ventricles was found to be the underlying cause of the liver injury. Treatment for the initially unrecognized heart failure rapidly restored liver function to normal. To our knowledge, this is the f irst reported case of severe acute liver failure due to an unrecognized anabolic steroid-induced cardiomyopathy. Awareness of this unique presentation will allow for prompt treatment of this potentially fatal cause of liver failure.展开更多

People use it to define themselves but also as a vehicle that can send signs to others in the hope that their body will be a factor of social integration and social recognition. Hence we can observe the development of practices of body transformations which go along with the philosophy of the society in which everything seems possible for everybody, with no limit whatsoever. Indeed, if you want your body to be seen, you have to "produce" it before. The practice of bodybuilding sustains efforts in that direction: historically born and developed along with the consumption society, it came to embody its values. The analysis is based on qualitative methodology that is observations in three bodybuilding Gyms and 30 interviews with bodybuilders in France. The results show that bodybuilding reflects the consumption society's norms, that is a practice in which the body is in tension between imitation and distinction, hence showing the will to be "like others but in better" thanks to the production of a nice and "massive" body. Such a dimension could sometimes be dialectical, when the body becomes a source of alienation.展开更多

These losses contribute to rapidly increasing healthcare costs for all Americans and the lack of healthcare or the malpractice of healthcare for money motivations can result in death. The purpose of this article is to describe several different types of healthcare frauds that occurred and to offer suggestions related to the prevention and/or detection of this type of fraud. With a better understanding of the frauds that can take place, auditors can help protect society from both unfair healthcare costs and medical problems.展开更多

This way, the main objective of this work is to investigate the dynamic structural behaviour of a steel-concrete composite multi-storey building when subjected to human rhythmic activities (aerobics). The studied structural model represents a typical interior floor bay of a commercial building used for gym and is composed by three floor levels spanning 20 m by 20 m, with a total area of 3×400 m2. An extensive parametric study was developed aiming to obtain the peak accelerations, RMS (root mean square) accelerations and VDV (vibration dose value) values, based on two different mathematical formulations. The human comfort of the building was analysed and the vibration transmissibility related to the steel columns was verified. Based on the found results, the investigated structural model presented high vibration levels that compromise the human comfort.展开更多

Aerobics, as a combination of music and sports, has been more and more popular among teachers and students. However, in aerobics training, the injuries to the physical bodies of students will be caused due to the improper training methods. Therefore, in this paper, the points needing attention in aerobics training is studied, and then scientific aerobics training methods are proposed.展开更多

The reform of aerobics teaching in colleges and universities should be geared to the demands of the times, and explore new innovation and continual development. In this paper, using the research methods of documentation, courseware development, teaching experiment and mathematical statistics, we study on the making and application of college aerobics network teaching courseware. It is revealed that, with the combination of modem network technology and college aerobics teaching, the resulted college aerobics network teaching courseware is the important media to not only upgrades college aerobics teaching quality, but also help develop students' habits of doing physical exercise, and promote physical health. Therefore, this is meaningful and practical in promoting the education of college students in physical quality development.展开更多

It is with superb skill, charming and colorful parade of action, posture which is coordinated with the music to demonstrate the extraordinary artistic charm, thus attracting more and more students to participate in. Because it is different from traditional hand gymnastic exercises, and does not have too high demands for space and equipment. Practicing it just needs fast-paced and lively musical accompaniment, and dynamic movements can make people feel good, so it wins the majority of young people, especially girls. Calisthenics is as one of the means to work out for students; in particular, it develops a lifelong habit of physical exercise and plays an important role for college girls' lifelong fitness awareness. The topic is studying female college students on aerobics body shape, function, quality and impact of mental health to promote the development of physical education reform.展开更多

The article will talk about the influence of aerobics on mental health of college students aiming at the fact that mass aerobics haven' t developed very well. Aerobics expand the traditional pattern of school physical education, in addition to improve and animate sports classroom atmosphere; students can be fully met the physical and mental demand, so as students can be guided to actively participate in physical exercise, making further promotion of students' body and function development; students' physical fitness involving coordination, softness, power and endurance can also be fully developed. Students can develop good body posture, shape their physical beauty and performance of actions, cultivate sentiments and further demonstrate the beauty and health of themselves.展开更多

Pre-and probioticproducts aimed at improving health by modifyingmicrobiota composition have already become widelyavailable and acceptance of these products appearsto be on the rise. However, although required forthe development of effective microbiota basedinterventions, our basic understanding of microbiotavariation on a population level and its dynamics withinindividuals is still rudimentary. Powerful new parallelsequence technologies combined with other efficientmolecular microbiota analysis methods now allow forcomprehensive analysis of microbiota composition inlarge human populations. Recent fi ndings in the fi eldstrongly suggest that microbiota contributes to thedevelopment of obesity, atopic diseases, inflammatorybowel diseases and intestinal cancers. Through theongoing National Institutes of Health Roadmap 'HumanMicrobiome Project' and similar projects in other partsof the world, a large coordinated effort is currentlyunderway to study how microbiota can impact humanhealth. A robust body of literature documenting the health benefits of this eating pattern provides compelling reasons to change our dietary habits in ways that also benefit our environment, but we also need to have the right foods available and affordable to support this modest shift. This commentary discusses the gaps in current US dietary intakes compared to recommendations for meat and protein versus plant-based foods and the potential health benefits of shifting towards a more plant-based diet, focusing on the complex role of Mediterranean crops, such as tree nuts and olive oils, needed to support this shift.展开更多
