First, a user profile represented as a user' s topics of interest vector is created by analyzing the user' s click through data based on PLSA, then the user' s queries are mapped into categories based on the user' s preferences, and finally the result list is re-ranked according to the user' s interests based on the new proposed method named user-oriented PageRank (UOPR). Experiments on real life datasets show that the user-oriented search system that adopts PLSA takes considerable consideration of user preferences and better satisfies a user' s personalized information needs.展开更多

A method is proposed to avoid complex computation in finding the region of interest (ROI) in a mammogram. In the method, the true negative region (TNR) definitely containing no microcalcification clusters (MCCs) is screened out, thus obtaining ROIs, The strategy consists of three steps: (1) the mammogram is partitioned into a set of non-overlapping blocks with an equal size, and for each block, five statistical features are computed, (2) negative blocks are screened out by the threshold method through rough analyses, (3) the more accurate analysis is done by the cost-sensitive support vector machine to eliminate the block definitely containing no MCCs, Experimental results on real mammograms show that 81.71% of TNRs can be screened out by the proposed method.展开更多
Microblogs have become an important platform for people to publish,transform information and acquire knowledge.This paper focuses on the problem of discovering user interest in microblogs.In this paper,we propose a to...Microblogs have become an important platform for people to publish,transform information and acquire knowledge.This paper focuses on the problem of discovering user interest in microblogs.In this paper,we propose a topic mining model based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) named user-topic model.For each user,the interests are divided into two parts by different ways to generate the microblogs:original interest and retweet interest.We represent a Gibbs sampling implementation for inference the parameters of our model,and discover not only user's original interest,but also retweet interest.Then we combine original interest and retweet interest to compute interest words for users.Experiments on a dataset of Sina microblogs demonstrate that our model is able to discover user interest effectively and outperforms existing topic models in this task.And we find that original interest and retweet interest are similar and the topics of interest contain user labels.The interest words discovered by our model reflect user labels,but range is much broader.展开更多

Of the four vocabulary memorizing strategies cited in the study (rote repetition, structural associations, semantic strategies, and mnemonic keyword techniques), students apparently tended to favor the second and the third ones, though rote repetition remains appealing to some of them. Furthermore, parent's early intervention is an added value to classrooms and schools, for it creates a dimension of involvement in the decisions which shape the children's education as a whole. The extended edge analysis method detects two ver...This paper proposes a method which uses the extended edge analysis to supplement the inaccurate edge information for better vehicle detection during vehicle detection. The extended edge analysis method detects two vertical edge items, which are the borderlines of both sides of the vehicle, by extending the horizontal edges inaccurately due to the illumination or noise existing on the image. The proposed method extracts the horizontal edges with the method of merging edges by using the horizontal edge information inside the Region of Interest (ROI), which is set up on the pre-processing step. The bottona line is determined by detecting the shadow regions of the vehicle from the extracted hoodzontal edge one. The general width of the vehicle detecting and the extended edge analyzing methods are carried out side by side on the bottom line of the vehicle to determine width of the vehicle. Finally, the finmal vehicle is detected through the verification step. On the road image with conaplicate background, the vehicle detecting method based on the extended edge analysis is more efficient than the existing vehicle detecting method which uses the edge information. The excellence of the proposed vehicle detecting method is confirmed by carrying out the vehicle detecting experiment on the complicate road image.展开更多

Its chief aims four-fold: First, to promote the students' learning motivation; second, to increase the students' learning interests; third, to raise their English abilities by reading theme-based/oriented topics; and, fourth, instruct them by giving guidelines to make Power-Point presentations in class. A prior or pilot survey was conducted to provide empirical opportunities to collect and explore the participants' views, comments, and opinions in relation to the selected research questions on this topic. The results also indicate that students can speak different/various length of words, utilize appropriate phrase to express their ideas or goals, and to speak in various/different paces, etc. Teachers couldn't assess the students only by their test results due to the different learning styles adopted by individual students; however, through this survey, students can be better assisted through the identification of their individual styles or habits, their individual styles or habits of learning. As regards relevant knowledge about their students' learning styles, teachers may consider whether and how to adjust their methods of teaching in order to better motivate them to learn English more effectively and efficiently.展开更多
