METHODS: A total of 361 regional lymph nodes from 25 patients with node-negative HBDC were immunostained with an antibody against cytokeratins 8 and 18 (CAM 5.2), and immunohistochemical staining of VEGF-C was performed in 34 primary resected tumors. RESULTS: Lymph node micrometastasis was detected in 6 (24%) of the 25 patients and 10 (2.8%) of the 361 lymph nodes. Patients with micrometastasis showed significantly poorer survival rates than those without (P= 0.025). VEGF-C expression was positive in 17 (50%) of 34 HBDC, and significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (P=0.042) and microscopic venous invasion (P=0.035). CONCLUSIONS: It is suggested that immunohistochemically detected lymph node micrometastasis has an impact on the outcome of HBDC. VEGF-C expression is highly correlated with lymph node metastasis in HBDC and might therefore be a useful predictor.展开更多

Methods: Ninety-six cases of chloasma were randomly divided into two groups, the control group of 46 cases treated by simple acupuncture and the treatment group of 50 cases treated by acupuncture and intensive pulse light irradiation. Results: The total effective rate was 89.1% and 98.0% in the control group and treatment group respectively, with a significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05). Conclusion: For chloasma, the effect of treatment with acupuncture plus intensive pulse light irradiation is superior to that with simple acupuncture.展开更多

Methods Sixty patients with Achilles tendonitis at the age of 18-55 years old were randomly divided into electroacupuncture group (group A) and low frequency impulse group (group B) according to the random number table with 30 patients in each group. Chengshan (承山 BL 57), Ashi point, Taixi (太溪 KI 3) and Kunlun (昆仑 BL 60) were selected as main acupoints, local point selection was adopted as main method and distal point selection as supplement. Patients in group A were treated with electroacupuncture and in group B were treated with low frequency impulse therapeutic apparatus. Patients in both groups were treated for 12 times, 3 times per week in the 1st and 2nd weeks, twice a week in the 3rd and 4th weeks, and once a week in the Sth and 6th weeks, with a total of 6 weeks. The heel pain VAS scores, tenderness and efficacy of dysfunction in two groups were comparatively analyzed. Results Pain: there was significant difference in pain scores in group A before and after treatment (1.67±0.71 vs 3.03±1.81, P〈0.01), and the difference in pain scores was not significant in group B before and after treatment (2.13±1.17 vs 2.87±1.57, P〉0.05). Tenderness: In group A, 13 patients had mild tenderness, 15 had moderate tenderness and 2 had severe tenderness before treatment. After treatment, 26 patients had mild tenderness, 4 had moderate tenderness and no patients had severe tenderness. In group B, 15 patients had mild tenderness, 14 had moderate tenderness and 1 had severe tenderness before treatment. After treatment, 24 patients had mild tenderness, 5 had moderate tenderness and one patient had severe tenderness. Dysfunction: in group A, 12 patients had mild dysfunction, 16 had moderate dysfunction and 2 had severe dysfunction before treatment. After treatment, 24 patients had mild dysfunction, 6 had moderate dysfunction and no patients had severe dysfunction. In group B, 13 patients had mild dysfunction, 15 had moderate dysfunction and 2 had severe dysfunction before treatment. After treatment, 14 patients had mild dysfunction, 13 had moderate dysfunction and one patient had severe dysfunction. There is significant difference in total effective rate between two groups [100%(30/30) vs 86.67(26/30), P〈0.05]. Conclusion Electroacupuncture has better therapeutic effect than that low frequency impulse therapy in the treatment of Achilles tendonitis, which can eliminate or improve symptoms, as well as heighten the quality of life for patients.展开更多

Methods: A total of 50 patients with constipation due to intestinal qi stagnation were randomly divided into an acupuncture group and a medication group by the random digital table, 25 cases in each group. The patients in the acupuncture group were treated by puncturing Gongsun(SP 4), Sanyinjiao(SP 6), Taichong(LR 3), Zusanli(ST 36), Shangjuxu(ST 37), Hegu(LI 4), Lieque(LU 7), and Tianshu(ST 25), once every day, and 7 d as one course, for continuous 3 courses; while the patients in the medication group were given Phenolphthalein, 7 d as one course, for continuous 3 courses. Compared the Cleveland clinic constipation score(CCS) between the two groups after one course, 3 courses and 3 months after the treatment, as well as the frequency of defecation within one week. Results: After one week of treatment, CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were significantly changed in both groups compared with those before treatment(P〈0.05), and CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were improved more significantly in the patients of the medication group than in those of the acupuncture group(P〈0.01). After 3 weeks of treatment, CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were significantly changed in both groups compared with those before treatment(P〈0.05), and CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were improved more significant in the patients of the acupuncture group than in those of the medication group(P〈0.05). Three months after the end of treatment, CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were significantly changed in both groups compared with those before treatment(P〈0.05), and CCS scores and frequency of defecation per week were improved more significantly in the patients of the acupuncture group than in those of the medication group(P〈0.05). Conclusion: Acupuncture and medication are effective in the treatment of constipation due to intestinal qi stagnation. Their short-term therapeutic effect is similar, but the long-term therapeutic effect is better in the acupuncture group than in the medication group.展开更多

Rats with a random blood glucose > 16.7 mmol/L and blood glucose at 2 h-point of oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) > 11.1 mmol/L were included as diabetic rats, and randomly divided into model group, EA Weiwanxiashu(EX-B 3) group, EA Zusanli(ST 36)group, glimepiride group, and EA non-acupoint group(n = 12). EA(2 Hz continuous wave, 2 m A,20 min/day, 6 days/week, 4 weeks) and intra-gastric administration of glimepiride were applied as interventions. With fasting blood glucose and OGTT tested at the end of the intervention, thestudy observed the patterns of hypoglycemic effects. For mechanism study, it observes hematoxylin and eosin staining and Masson staining of pancreas paraffin sections, protein expression of glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor(GLP-1R) in the pancreas and skeletal muscle, glucose transporter 4(GLUT4) protein expression in skeletal muscle membrane, to detect whether EA controls blood glucose via regulation of GLP-1R.RESULTS: EA Weiwanxiashu(EX-B 3) significantly increased model rats' pancreas GLP-1R, and GLUT4 of skeletal muscle membrane; the therapy significantly decreased model rats' skeletal muscle GLP-1R, restored pancreas morphology, and reduced fasting blood glucose and insulin resistance indices.CONCLUSION: EA Weiwanxiashu(EX-B 3) alone has significant effect on glycemia. EA Weiwanxiashu(EX-B 3) plus glimepiride further strengthen the effect. The regulation of the GLP-1R in pancreas and skeletal muscle might be mechanism underpinning the effect.展开更多

The factors investigated include the size of stimulation electrode pads, the amplitude, frequency, and pulse width of the stimulation waveform and the detecting electrode points. We calculate the root mean square(RMS) of EMG signal to analyze the effect of these factors on the M-wave properties. The results indicate that the M-wave mainly depends on the stimulation amplitude and the distribution of detecting electrodes, but not on the other factors. This study can assist the reduction of artifact and the selection of detecting electrode points.展开更多
