The lignites of Cambay basin dominantly comprise huminite maceral group (71.6%-86.3%) followed by liptinite (10.1%-19.3%) and inertinite (3.6%-11.0%) maceral groups. The mineral matter varies from 9.0% to 20.0%. The petrography based facies model indicates that these lignites have high values of gelification index (GI) and low tissue preservation index revealing a continuous wet condition in the basin and a relatively slower rate of subsidence during the decay of organic matter. On several occasions, during the formation of seams in Tadkeshwar, Rajpardi and Vastan mines, the value of GI exceeded 10 which indicates a forest permanently flooded and the cause of pronounced degree of degradation. However, few sections in Tadkeshwar seam had relatively drier spells of environmental conditions due to fluctuation in the water table as revealed by moderately high content of inertinite macerals. This is specially indicated by the occurrence of funginite which normally thrives in the upper oxy- genated peatigenic layer and indicates prevalence of oxic conditions during plant deposition. Such conditions prevailed during a transgressive phase but there were intermittent fluvial activities also giving rise to supratidal flood plain as reflected in the form of associated carbonaceous shales in the basin.展开更多

Two combination methods are proposed. In one method, historical data is introduced into the grey time series model to predict future trend of measurement values in chemical process. These predicted measurements are then used in the dynamic model to retrieve the change of fault parameters by model based diagnosis algorithm. In another method, historical data is introduced directly into the dynamic model to retrieve historical fault parameters by model based diagnosis algorithm. These parameters are then predicted by the grey time series model. The two methods are applied to a gravity tank example. The case study demonstrates that the first method is more accurate for fault prediction.展开更多

Complete or nearly complete mitochondrial genomes(mitogenomes) of 155 species from 47 families in Heteroptera have been sequenced. However, the amounts of mitogenomes between those families are unbalanced, which makes it difficult to correctly discern the patterns of mitogenome rearrangement in Heteroptera. Among 21 species from ten families, ten variations in mitogenome rearrangement had been previously reported, among which the translocation between tRNA-Thr and tRNA-Pro was considered as a synapomorphy of Pyrrhocoroidea based on two mitogenomes. As only one mitogenome in each of Largidae and Pyrrhocoridae had been sequenced to conclude the synapomorphy, more mitogenomes of Pyrrhocoroidea need to be explored. In this study, additional two mitogenomes of Pyrrhocoroidea(Macrocheraia grandis grandis(Gray, 1832) and Myrmoplasta mira Gerst-cker, 1892) were sequenced. Both of them also possess the same translocation between tRNA-Thr and tRNA-Pro, which reaffirms that this kind of rearrangement is a molecular synapomorphy of Pyrrhocoroidea. Moreover, we discovered a more complex rearrangement in Myrmoplasta mira, in which six nearly identical duplications of tRNA-Thr were found located downstream of tRNA-Pro. Considering the high biodiversity of Heteroptera, more mitogenomic studies are needed to improve our knowledge about mitogenome rearrangements and the potential synapomorphies.展开更多

Chinese and Westerners have different social and historical and cultural traditions, forming a distinctive way of thinking. Such as the differences between marginal thinking and logical thinking, differences between comprehensive thinking and analytical thinking, differences between focusing on "unity" and tending to "opposite", differences between focusing on perceptual and on rational thinking, all of these ways of thinking result in different ways of expression and language in cross-cultural teaching, different ways of behavior and interactions and different view of life and values.展开更多

The most important contribution of Ly Thai To in Vietnamese history is to move the capital from Hoa Lu to Dai La, and rename it as Thang Long (Ascending Dragon) in 1010. Nowadays, it is known as Hanoi. Ly Thai To promoted Buddhism, and reduced the centuries-old influence of Confucianism in the kingdom. The growth and prevalence of Buddhism brought about a long period of peace, where Buddhist literature consequently flourished with seminal achievements. Due to King Ly Thai To's enormous contributions, the Vietnamese have created several legends and anecdotes to mystify his life. Thus, although a historical figure, his life remains a mystery and controversy. In 2010, Hanoi celebrated the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long. On this occasion, Vietnamese historical films about Ly Cong Uan were produced. This created intriguing variations within historical facts, legends, and on-screen stories. This paper will explore the reconstruction of Ly Cong Uan's life from an adaptation studies perspective through four historical films: Legend of the Capital Relocation (Huyen su thien do), Thang Long Aspiration (Khat vong Thang Long), Ly Cong Uan The Road to Thang Long Citadel (Ly Cong Uan: Dtrong toi thanh Thang Long), Child of the Dragon (Ngtroi con cua Rong). This research also wants to clarify the issues of national identity, nationalism, and cultural interaction reflected through the representations of Ly Thai To in those cinematic products展开更多

His historical-cultural analysis of the "crisis in psychology" showed that, beyond contradictions between the two main methodological currents---"objective/explanatory" and "subjective/intuitive"--psychology is primarily influenced by its empirical-sensory foundations. This influence is actually at the origin of the disagreement since it maintains the obligation for the two currents to make reference to empirical-sensory data. Only a general model of the developing human being, assessed by its usefulness, will allow reorienting psychology towards a broader science. This would lead to a general theory of psychology, which could then facilitate the search for tools for an indirect method enabling it to go beyond empiricism.展开更多

Her attitude towards Catholicism and Ojibwe spirituality has sparked a heated discussion among scholars and researchers in recent years. Under such academic atmosphere, therefore, LaRose is discussed in this paper. It is shown inLaRose that when white and tribal history come together, where Catholic and traditional spirit worlds intersect, and when Western legal justice cannot solve an ethical problem, Ojibwe spirituality can be used for healing trauma, which is represented through the tradition of adoption as a spiritual reparation, the acquisition of power through naming and biological inheritance and the practice of rituals and ceremonies, from all of which the healing power is derived. Rather than being a syncretism with Catholic, Ojibwe spirituality should preserve its own traditions and cultures to survive generational as well as individual trauma and maintain a culture survivance展开更多

METHODS: A series of 85 patients with moderate-se- vere ulcerative colitis flare-up were evaluated for a HCMV search by performing a haematoxylin and eosin stain, immunohistochemical assay and nested polymerase chain reaction on rectal biopsies. Among 85 screened patients (19 of whom were steroid resistant/dependant), 28 were positive for HCMV; after remission the patients were followed up clinically and histologically. RESULTS: Among the 22 patients with complete follow- up, in 8 (36%) patients HCMV-DNA persisted in the in- testinal specimens. Among the HCMV positive patients, 4 (50%) experienced at least one moderate-severeflare-up of colitis without evidence of peripheral HCMV. Among the 14 HCHV negative patients, 3 with pouches developed pouchiUs and 5 out of 11 (45%) experienced a colitis flare-up. CONCLUSION: Our preliminary results suggest that HCHV may remain in the colon afber an acute coltis flare- up despite remission; it seems that the virus is not responsible for the disease relapse.展开更多

For Nancy, the body becomes the privileged site of both existence and sense in a way that threatens to obscure the logic of exceptional decision that Agamben takes from Carl Schmitt. As an alternative to Nancy's understanding of the body, we can see in Deleuze a series of bodies that works in parallel to a series of sense or language, where sense and body do not get collapsed into each other. At the same time, contemporary continental philosophy resists the idealistic separation of thinking and embodiment. Deleuze calls this relation between sense and body a cut, but we could also consider a parallax, following Slavoj Zizek. Finally, African-American historian of religion Charles H. Long's work complements some of Deleuze's insights in a more explicitly postcolonial context.展开更多

TOC and TN in the sediment cores were determined using EuroEA3000 Series Elemental Analyser and radiocarbon dating done using AMS (accelerator mass spectrometry) standard method. Results showed that TOC (13.45%-20.78%) and TN (1.07%-1.92%) values were higher at Napoleon Gulf from about 4,186 years before present (ca. 4,186 yr. BP) to present than at inlet of river Kagera (TOC: 3.27%-6.32% and TN: 0.30%-0.59%) from about 190 years before present (ca. 190 yr. BP) to present. Generally TOC and TN had a negative correlation (r = -0.37, p = 0.04, n = 32) at Napoleon Gulf in the last 4,186 years to present signifying that C/N ratios were governed mostly by phytoplankton productivity which markedly increased during some periods in the last 370 years to present possibly as a result of increased input of nitrates. However, the periods from about 4,186 years to 1,684 years before present (ca. 4,186 yr. BP to 1,684 yr. BP) and some periods between the last 370 years to present indicated increased input of allochthonous plant materials/catchment destruction. On overall, there was a positive correlation between C/N and TOC at inlet of river Kagera (r = 0.57, p = 0.01, n = 20) in the last 190 years to present possibly signifying that C/N ratios were governed mainly by input of allochthonous plant materials hence increased catchment destruction. Input of land plant materials (catchment destruction) along Kagera basin declined during some period after 1950 AD. However the most recent years have shown increased input of land plant materials (catchment destruction) in Kagera basin.展开更多

The process included educational, pedagogical, judicial, liturgical and theological-rhetorical means and had significant, invaluable, and long lasting consequences. The province remains as a part of the Kingdom of Sweden. From a historical perspective, the process was fast and successful, even though some modem historians question the speediness of the process and thereby want to modify the picture of a fast and non-problematic Swedification or pseudo-indigenization process.展开更多

Through the study in four aspects, namely, the pursuit of modem education, simple appearance, great leaders, and the ambassadors of culture, the author's research indicates that Chen's construction of"new woman" has been influenced by complex historical and cultural forces such as the Chinese traditional culture, Western culture, and the iconoclastic spirit of "the New Culture Movement". Meanwhile, Chen's gender consciousness is also an important element. Moreover, Chen's pioneering standing and her own experiences of studying abroad makes her take the lead in conceiving women's leadership and their roles in global culture communications. In the late Qing and the early Republic, traditional values and norms of womanhood were severely challenged. Chen's construction of"new woman" is her conscious effort to define a new womanhood and is an integral part of the ongoing exploration of Chinese women for modem womanhood. Through the examination of Chen's "new woman", this paper seeks to enrich our understanding of the complexity of modem Chinese women's exploration of modem womanhood.展开更多

Urban expansion has a large effect on the archeological buildings continuity since such type of development impresses several serious challenges which conservation plans as well as preservation polices must deal with. A number of that main challenges are mega-constructions (tunnels, damps, roads, etc.), pollution, socio-cultural impacts and traffic. Within Um Qias, the archeological buildings face similar challenges consistent with the urban environment where it is presented and that challenges are reviewed in the local community behavior.展开更多

Yet, while Bangladesh has had a long history of university teaching, pedagogy has hardly entered the imagination of university educators. At the university level, pedagogical training would address cultural hindrances to students' advanced learning. Today's teachers are yesterday's students, with each generation being groomed in the same cultural patterns of learning that are continually repeated without examination. At the same time, the majority of faculties lack pedagogical methods for adjusting their teaching framework to accommodate the diversity of students' worldviews to nurture knowledge progression in classroom settings. Importantly, students acquire cultural practices of rote learning and memorization by way of lectures and homework that parrots texts and lectures. Many faculties are unaware that the purpose of a university is to stimulate new ideas and knowledge, provoke assumptions, and teach and encourage critical thinking. The pedagogical challenge also derives from Bengali culture, from which teachers assume a hierarchical mindset and attitude that is counter-productive to students' learning.展开更多

It discusses the origin of the short story in general and preconditions for the popularity of the new genre the Iranian literature of the 20th century, and also about the first successful collection of short stories that introduced it to the public. Also the development process of the short story and principle factors in every stage of its emergence as an independent genre of prose, as well as the thematic range are the main aspects among others to be analyzed in the article. It is historically documented that the Islamic state was established in 1979 after the fall of the Shah. And the very event had big impact not only on the social and political life of the country, but also on the cultural and literary life of the Iranians of the time. The significance of the revolution was such that it divided the literature to be known as the "pre-revolution" and "post-revolution" periods. Therefore this article is aimed to observe how this historic event had influenced the short story in particular and the distinct features of the works created during the two periods. The next period which stands out in the development of the short story is during the late 90s and the beginning of the 2000, where the genre experienced aesthetic innovations and experiments with new forms and styles. The distinct feature of the period is mainly in its topics it deals, among other the effects of the globalization and popular culture brought forth, isolated individual, urbanization, climate change and its destructive outcome and the social conflicts resulting from them. Such global issues caused the established writers to look out of their borders and open up to the concerns of the planet, and by doing so establishing new schools of thought and style among the writers of short story in modem Iranian literature. Finally the article will overview the role of the Iranian contemporary female short story writers, children's literature and the works of the immigrant Iranian authors that continue the traditions of the Persian literature outside Irma.展开更多

Of course, the heritage of any culture needs a carrier, and the history and culture is no exception. Language itself is a kind of tool for the information exchange, and the communication process of the language is also accompanied by the substitution of the culture. So it can be said it is not only the category of the information exchange, but should be expanded to the cultural heritage. With the continuous changes and development of the society, people focused more on the application in the learning of the language, so as to highlight the characteristics of different cultures through the applications in different aspects.展开更多

Long's work complements some of Deleuze's insights in a more explicitly postcolonial context.
文摘Sedimentary TOC (total organic carbon), TN (total nitrogen) and C/N (carbon/nitrogen) at selected sites of Lake Victoria basin have provided evidence of phytoplankton productivity, input of nitrates and allochthonous (land) plant materials/catchment destruction in the basin during the late Holocene period (last 4,000 years to present). However the most recent years have shown increased input of land plant materials (catchment destruction) in Kagera basin.
文摘In this article the crucial role of the Lutheran Church in Sweden in neighboring Lutheran Danish enemies in the province of Scania into the pseudo-indigenization process of making loyal Swedish citizen after the peace treaty of Roskilde 1658, and more pronounced after 1678, is described and discussed. The process included educational, pedagogical, judicial, liturgical and theological-rhetorical means and had significant, invaluable, and long lasting consequences. The province remains as a part of the Kingdom of Sweden. From a historical perspective, the process was fast and successful, even though some modem historians question the speediness of the process and thereby want to modify the picture of a fast and non-problematic Swedification or pseudo-indigenization process.
文摘This essay examines the autobiography of Chen Hengzhe (1890-1976) (see Appendix), a relatively less studied woman writer, historian, and critic in modem China. Through the examination of Chen's "new woman", this paper seeks to enrich our understanding of the complexity of modem Chinese women's exploration of modem womanhood.
文摘The present paper is talking about the recent situation of the archeological buildings which exist through modern urban environments. Within Um Qias, the archeological buildings face similar challenges consistent with the urban environment where it is presented and that challenges are reviewed in the local community behavior.
文摘Pedagogy teaches teachers how to teach, so that they may effectively teach students how to learn; it offers important training for teachers to transform students from mere parrots of information into challengers of and innovators of knowledge. The pedagogical challenge also derives from Bengali culture, from which teachers assume a hierarchical mindset and attitude that is counter-productive to students' learning.
文摘The following article is about the historical overview of the Persian literature and the emergence and development of the short story as a literary genre and its prominent role in the modem literature of Iran. Finally the article will overview the role of the Iranian contemporary female short story writers, children's literature and the works of the immigrant Iranian authors that continue the traditions of the Persian literature outside Irma.
文摘Along with the development of the times and the innovation of the society, the history and cultures are also constantly inherited under the strike of the flow of the tide over the years, forming the centuries-old cultures. With the continuous changes and development of the society, people focused more on the application in the learning of the language, so as to highlight the characteristics of different cultures through the applications in different aspects.
