As an important feature of written language, nominalization is frequently used in formal texts. Using the approach of systemic functional grammar, the paper presents a detailed analysis of the three metafunctions of nominalization, which entails the positive and negative stylistic effects. The paper also discusses the relationship between form, function and stylistic features.

Creating a Low-Anxiety Classroom by Mediational Artefacts： A Comparison Through Materialization and Verbalization

One of the challenges in foreign language teaching, specifically teaching listening skill, is to create a low-anxiety classroom environment, since many learners believe listening induces anxiety. This study compares learners＇ anxiety in two different classrooms in which learners were instructed by two forms of artifacts： materializing and verbalizing. The Foreign Language Listening Anxiety Scale （FLLAS） scores before and after a 13-week experimental treatment course were used to compare learners＇ anxiety before and after receiving intervention by two means. In this study, the lower score of anxiety was for the group which did verbalization practice in the class; however, both groups showed the same performance on listening test.

Ink Applied Research of Element Graphic Design Teaching in Intangible Cultural Context

With spreading and deepening of intangible cultural heritage protection movement in this century, Chinese ink art is among the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Institutions of higher education is an academic heritage, culture, communication, personnel training platform and carrier, we assume an important role in the protection of heritage and ink art. Modem design teaching is in order to better local cultural heritage, but also to change their design education, more and more traditional elements are used in the classroom student design works. This paper aims to cultural connotations of traditional Chinese ink painting itself carrying elements and aesthetic charm of the excavation, analysis and sorting, which will be teaching in their designs into modem art. The contemporary art and design are to make cultural connotation and aesthetic meaning, making a good combination of tradition and art.

A Clinical Investigation on 30 Cases of Senile Benign Renal Arteriolosclerosis Treated by Huang Qi Gu Jing Yin

Huang Qi Gu Jing Yin (HQGJY[symbol: see text]decoction of Astragalus root for Strengthening the Essence) was used in a controlled clinical trial for treatment of senile benign renal arteriolosclerosis. First-Principles Study on Native Defect Complexes in InN

We present first-principles calculations of the formation energy of different native defects and their complexes in wurtzite InN using density-functional theory and the pseudopotential plane-wave method. Our calculations are aimed in the three cases： N/In = 1, N/In 〉 1 （N-rich）, and N/In 〈 1 （In-rich）. Our results indicate that the antisite defect has the lowest formation energy under N/In = 1. The formation energy of nitrogen interstitial （nitrogen vacancy） defect is significantly low under the N-rich （In-rich） condition. Thus the antisite defect is an important defect if N/In = 1, and the nitrogen interstitial （nitrogen vacancy） defect is a vital defect under the N-rich （In-rich） condition. The atomic site relaxation around the nitrogen interstitial and vacancy is investigated. Our calculations show that the nitrogen vacancy cannot be observed although it is one of the most important defects in InN. Our results are confirmed by experiments.

THE STUDY OF NOMINALIZATION ACQUISITION IN CHINESE EFL LEARNERS

The paper focuses on the use of nominalizations in English compositions of Chinese EFL learners in college. From the research, we conclude that the cognitive capability of the students and the interference of their mother tongue are mutually responsible for the low use of nominalizations. In addition, the use of nominalization mainly reveals the learner's cognitive competence. Our suggestion on the teaching of nominalization, as well as English writing has been incorporated.

Literature-based analysis on relationship of symptoms,drugs and therapies in treatment of intestinal diseases

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate clinical articles published in the past 30 years using the Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)theory of the lung being connected with large intestine to treat intestinal diseases.We also analyzed the relationship between symptoms,drugs and therapies with data-excavating technology to aid management.METHODS:After retrieving relevant clinical articles,we set up a database,used Microsoft Structured Query Language Server 2005 Analysis Services as a data-excavating tool,and applied the association rule to study the relationship between the symptoms,drugs and therapies of intestinal diseases.RESULTS:The key symptoms of dyschesia,constipation,abdominal fullness,fatigue and pale tongue could be treated with Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum),Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici)and Gualou(Fructus et Semen Trichosanthis)to invigorate Qi and moisten the intestine.Among these agents,Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum)was used most frequently.Clearing Fu-organs was the most prevalent therapy for abdominal fullness,dyschesia,constipation and red tongue.Clearing Fu-organs could be achieved with Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum)and Gualou(Fructus et Semen Trichosanthis),whereas Qi could be invigorated using Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici),Gancao(Radix Glycyrrhizae),Baizhu(Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae)and Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum).Moistening the intestine was possible with Kuxingren(SemenArmeniacae Amarum),Huomaren(Fructus Cannabis)and Jiegeng(Radix Platycodi).Also,moistening the lungs was done with Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum),ventilating the lungs with Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum)and Gualou(Fructus et Semen Trichosanthis),and nourishing the lungs with Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici),Gancao(Radix Glycyrrhizae)and Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum).These data demonstrated that Kuxingren(SemenArmeniacaeAmarum)was a key agent.CONCLUSION:Our analyses of the literature showed clear relationships between symptoms(constipation,dyschesia,abdominal fullness),drugs[Gualou(Fructus et Semen Trichosanthis),Kuxingren(Semen Armeniacae Amarum),Huangqi(Radix Astragali Mongolici)]and therapies(moistening the intestine,clearing Fu-organs,invigorating Qi,ventilating the lungs).

New Perspectives in the Comparative Study of East Asian Culture

Historically,Chinese characters were used throughout the East Asian region,giving rise to a common cultural sphere.Since early modern times,the written languages of East Asia have developed in a diversity of ways,shaped by nation,geography and culture,among other factors.Strengthening research on the long-term history of East Asian cultural development is thus very necessary.Komine Kazuaki has long been engaged in the study of medieval Japanese literature.Over the past two decades,he has projected a holistic academic approach to the study of culture in East Asia,conducting comparative research on the classical East Asian cultures.This paper takes a methodological approach to the discussion of the subjects,methods,techniques and goals of such research.In the study of East Asian cultural exchange,comparison enables us to undertake holistic investigations;it is not simply a tactic for unilateral studies.The study of texts and of images can be mutually enhancing;for example,the Japanese emaki is a medium that mixes literature and painting.Methods of researching environmental literature provide new insights for re-interpreting classical and modern literary works.Lastly,we need to examine the value of classical East Asian literature from the standpoint of East Asia as a whole;this is an urgently needed direction in contemporary research in this field.
