To better understand the physiological characteristics of the silky starling(Sturnus sericeus), its body temperature(Tb), basal metabolic rate(BMR), evaporative water loss(EWL) and thermal conductance(C) eli...To better understand the physiological characteristics of the silky starling(Sturnus sericeus), its body temperature(Tb), basal metabolic rate(BMR), evaporative water loss(EWL) and thermal conductance(C) elicited by different ambient temperatures(Ta)(5-30 ℃) were determined in the present study. Our results showed that they have a high Tb(41.6±0.1 ℃), a wide thermal neutral zone(TNZ)(20-27.5 ℃) and a relatively low BMR within the TNZ(3.37±0.17 mL O2/g·h). The EWL was nearly stable below the TNZ(0.91±0.07 mg H2O/g·h) but increased remarkably within and above the TNZ. The C was constant below the TNZ, with a minimum value of 0.14±0.01 mL O2/g·h·℃. These findings indicate that the BMR, Tb and EWL of the silky starling were all affected by Ta, especially when Ta was below 20℃ and the EWL plays an important role in thermal regulation.展开更多
Non-agricultural lands are surveyed sparsely in general.Meanwhile,soils in these areas usually exhibit strong spatial variability which requires more samples for producing acceptable estimates.Capulin Volcano National...Non-agricultural lands are surveyed sparsely in general.Meanwhile,soils in these areas usually exhibit strong spatial variability which requires more samples for producing acceptable estimates.Capulin Volcano National Monument,as a typical sparsely-surveyed area,was chosen to assess spatial variability of a variety of soil properties,and furthermore,to investigate its implications for sampling design.One hundred and forty one composited soil samples were collected across the Monument and the surrounding areas.Soil properties including pH,organic matter content,extractable elements such as calcium (Ca),magnesium (Mg),potassium (K),sodium (Na),phosphorus (P),sulfur (S),zinc (Zn),and copper (Cu),as well as sand,silt,and clay percentages were analyzed for each sample.Semivariograms of all properties were constructed,standardized,and compared to estimate the spatial variability of the soil properties in the area.Based on the similarity among standardized semivariograms,we found that the semivariograms could be generalized for physical and chemical properties,respectively.The generalized semivariogram for physical properties had a much greater sill value (2.635) and effective range (7 500 m) than that for chemical properties.Optimal sampling density (OSD),which is derived from the generalized semivariogram and defines the relationship between sampling density and expected error percentage,was proposed to represent,interpret,and compare soil spatial variability and to provide guidance for sample scheme design.OSDs showed that chemical properties exhibit a stronger local spatial variability than soil texture parameters,implying more samples or analysis are required to achieve a similar level of precision.展开更多

[Result] As age grew, plant height and ground diameter increased significantly, varying dramatically upon seed provenance, and root-canopy ratio, root length, surface area and volume of seedlings were increas- ing. Specifically, seedlings at two-year-old and three-year-old kept a stable growth; moderate and big roots took higher proportions in a root system; underground parts for a plant required more photosynthetic products; root systems of young seedlings grew to moderate and big roots. [Conclusion] Ground biomass is of correlation with root system indices and the morphological characteristics of root systems are close to biomass. In addition, some patricians, merchants, and priests continued to follow the Gothic tradition until the final decade of the "Quattrocento". This paper is born from the intimate belief that solutions for the future are to be found in the past. No transformation is irreversible enough to destroy the experiences of the past, unified as a core in tradition. T...This paper is born from the intimate belief that solutions for the future are to be found in the past. No transformation is irreversible enough to destroy the experiences of the past, unified as a core in tradition. Those come into light whenever the proper conditions are created. From the point of view of architecture, representation is the basis for the transmission of knowledge, ideas, feelings, etc. The method of the paper is to put in antithesis two concepts which define the present world of representation: real (associated to transcendent revelation) and virtual (understood as result of human imagination). An itinerary through the philosophy of Plato and Plotin, ancient Greek, Byzantine, Gothic architecture, etc., is proposed, until encountering the moment of the death of revelation and the birth of the arbitrary, which is connected to the supremacy of the image. This journey through aesthetic conceptions brought major changes in art and society during the centuries. Recuperation of the involvement of all human senses into perception of space and understanding of the built environment of life as revelation, and not as a simple interface of images, may lead now to a revolution of urban spirit, based on a relationship with the city inspired from the values promoted by Socrates and later developed into Christianity, that proved their permanence across the millenniums.展开更多

Migration pattern of transhumant pastoralists can be affected by physical factors (e.g. droughts and diseases) or socioeconomic factors (e.g. schooling options for children and migration costs). We studied the spatio-temporal rangeland usage of the three tribes Ait Mgoun, Ait Zekri, and Ait Toumert in the south-central Atlas region with a two-fold approach. First, we tracked the migration movements of one representative transhumant herd using the Advanced Research and Global Observation Satellite (ARGOS) collars, which record coordinates from satellite signals. Second, we interviewed herders to obtain information about general grazing practices of the respective tribe and to gain more direct information on motivations underlying decisions. For each tribe we observed small-, medium- and large-scale movements. We found that the most important drivers of migration decisions were seasonal fodder availability and weather conditions in combination with herd-specific risk and cost assessment, as well as personal factors. In conclusion, general migration patterns vary in time, both between and within the tribes, but according to a regulatory framework. Moreover, it appears that both the customary rules and its flexible adaptation to physical constraints are generally beneficial in terms of conservation of the arid and semiarid rangeland resources.展开更多

The research group concerned with the health of these communities has performed research to find the association of alterations in the hemoglobin molecule with the presence of iron deficiency anemia. This research was performed with the support of the epidemiological public health laboratory. The objective of the study is the association of sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait, and the presence of hemoglobin C and its trait, with iron deficiency anemia in Afro-Colombians between 18 and 50 years of age, by investigation of hemograms, peripheral blood study, serum ferritin, soluble receptor for transferrin (sTfR) and index of sTfR, and hemoglobin electrophoresis. This research is a descriptive, quantitative, transverse, structured, non-experimental and correlational study, with a total of 56 samples (10 men, 46 women). The results showed that ferritin in men had normal values, compared to 32% (15/46) of women who had low levels of ferritin. Men's sTfR levels were normal, while in women 2% (1/46) had iron deficiency in stage I, 41% (19/46) iron deficiency in stage If, and 9% (4/46) possibly without anemia iron deficiency. In hemoglobin electrophoresis, 84% (46/56) of the population presents hemoglobin A, 4% (2/56) increased hemoglobin A2 and fetal hemoglobin related to a possible thalassemia trait, 11% (6/56) had hemoglobin AS related to sickle cell trait, and 2% (1/56) show hemoglobin AC, related to hemoglobin AC trait. This project supports investigative and social projects, and also contributes to the improvement of the quality of life and dissemination of good health practices in these communities.展开更多

Morphological identification wa...An entomological survey of Phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) was carried out in three sectors of Foum Jamgta region (province of Azilal, Morocco) during the year 2010. Morphological identification was performed on a total of 1,152 sand flies (23% females and 77% males) collected by sticky paper traps. 80% of the total collected flies were identified as Phlebotomus (Paraphlebotomus) sergenti (Parrot) (57%) and Phlebotomus (Larroussius) longicuspis (Nitzulescu) (23%). In addition to these dominant species, four other species were found, Phlebotomus (Phlebotomus) papatasi (Scopoli), Sergentomyia (Sergentomyia) minuta (Rondani), Phlebotomus (Larroussius) perniciosus (Newstead) and Phlebotomus (Paraphlebotomus) chabaudi (Croset). Overall, the population dynamics show a yearly bimodal pattern related to rainfall and temperature, and with high density around human dwellings. The spatiotemporal distribution of sand fly species was helpful to discuss strategies that might be useful in controlling cutaneous leishmaniasis transmission in this endemic focus.展开更多

Part of the aquifers of the area has a high salinity which creates even worst conditions for the use of the...The community of Figuig is located in a desert area, east of Morocco. It is characterized by an arid climate. Part of the aquifers of the area has a high salinity which creates even worst conditions for the use of the scarce water available in the area. Therefore, it is essential to develop new water resources, especially for agriculture. For this reason, reclaiming wastewater for agricultural use is an essential strategy to increase water resources. The studied system is a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) with stabilisation ponds; it treats a part of the wastewater of Figuig. The monitoring of the WWTP will allow to the physico-chemical and biological characterization of the treated water, and then, to verify two principal points: (1) the physico-chemical and pathogen parasites elimination; (2) the possibility of the treated water reuse in agricultural irrigation. The reductions recorded at the WWTP show a relatively preferment operation with an average decrease of 3.17 Ulog for faecal coliforms and 50-60% for organic matter. It was observed that the taxonomic density is slow in the WWTP; observed species are generally Cyanobacteria, Euglénophycea and Chlorophycea characteristic of eutrophic water sources.展开更多
We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices an...We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity analyses.Distributional data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized literature.Five grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 species.These gridcells are located in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the Sierra Madre del Sur(SMS).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and SMS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the SMO, TMVB and SMS.The richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the SMO, the eastern portion of the TMVB and the northern part of the SMS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of Mexico.Some important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural Protected Areas.The beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain systems.On the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central Plateau.Ferns play an important role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.展开更多

This phenomenon could be regarded from the point of view: (1) of Internet technology evolution from a network of computers to a network of people devoted to sharing their knowledge and user experience, coming further, as the Internet of Things (IoT), and (2) as part of the increasing involvement of the user (consumer/client) in production and innovation processes. These approaches allow us to analyze service-user platform firms according to the different kinds of specific assets distribution and risks. The new organization is based on internet platform tools which integrate information, machinery, energy, and science, and costumer collaboration. We conclude that there are large profits for those firms based on platforms, as there are not yet any counterbalances through competition, posing the question about the needed or not of technology management regulation during this phase of service sharing economy. Currentl...PCV2 (Porcine circovirus type 2) is considered as the essential infectious agent of PMWS (post weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome) in pigs. Serological studies have shown that the virus is ubiquitous. Currently, there are many reports about the epidemiology and genetic characteristics of this virus around the world, but in Mexico it has not been studied. More than 3,500 samples of serum, rectal swabs, tissues and semen of 34 Mexican porcine farms from 10 important producer regions were analyzed by PCR. Results show that 97% of the farms were positive. Both genotypes, PCV2a and PCV2b were detected. It also found that the most prevalent genotype in Mexico is PCV2b. Regarding to amino acid sequence; three major heterogenic regions were present in the positions 59-91,123-136 and 185-210.展开更多

It was observed that the taxonomic density is slow in the WWTP; observed species are generally Cyanobacteria, Euglénophycea and Chlorophycea characteristic of eutrophic water sources.

文摘We analyzed the distributional patterns of95 selected species of leptosporangiate ferns inhabiting the Mexican Mountain Component, using grid-cells of one geographical degree as unit areas,applying endemism indices and richness and beta diversity analyses.Distributional data were obtained from several herbaria and specialized literature.Five grid-cells appear to be important for fern species richness, as they contain 35 to 49 species.These gridcells are located in the Sierra Madre Oriental(SMO),Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt(TMVB) and the Sierra Madre del Sur(SMS).Mean richness by latitudinal belts of one degree showed that the belts with highest values are related to the TMVB and SMS.A total of 13grid-cells were recognized as important from theperspective of endemism; most of them are located also in the SMO, TMVB and SMS.The richest gridcells coincided with one of the main centres of endemism for ferns obtained in this study, located in the convergence of the southern part of the SMO, the eastern portion of the TMVB and the northern part of the SMS, reflecting the high humidity existing on the mountain slopes facing the Gulf of Mexico.Some important grid-cells recognized from richness and endemism analyses coincide with Mexican Natural Protected Areas.The beta diversity analysis showed a low degree of similarity among grid-cells, implying a high species replacement, as the result of environmental heterogeneity occurring in the Mexican mountain systems.On the other hand, the spatial analysis suggested a pattern of phytogeographical regionalization comprising twomain areas: the Mexican Transition Zone and the Mexican Central Plateau.Ferns play an important role in the Mexican biodiversity and contributing to the beta diversity of Mexico.
文摘Firms such as Airbnb, Uber, Blablacar have platforms for connecting owners of underused assets with clients through, the internet, thus allowing people to rent out their spare rooms, or book relay rides by acting as matchmakers, allocating resources where they are needed and charging a percentage of the cost in return. This phenomenon could be regarded from the point of view: (1) of Internet technology evolution from a network of computers to a network of people devoted to sharing their knowledge and user experience, coming further, as the Internet of Things (IoT), and (2) as part of the increasing involvement of the user (consumer/client) in production and innovation processes. These approaches allow us to analyze service-user platform firms according to the different kinds of specific assets distribution and risks. The new organization is based on internet platform tools which integrate information, machinery, energy, and science, and costumer collaboration. We conclude that there are large profits for those firms based on platforms, as there are not yet any counterbalances through competition, posing the question about the needed or not of technology management regulation during this phase of service sharing economy. 文摘PCV2 (Porcine circovirus type 2) is considered as the essential infectious agent of PMWS (post weaning multisystemic wasting syndrome) in pigs. Serological studies have shown that the virus is ubiquitous. Currently, there are many reports about the epidemiology and genetic characteristics of this virus around the world, but in Mexico it has not been studied. More than 3,500 samples of serum, rectal swabs, tissues and semen of 34 Mexican porcine farms from 10 important producer regions were analyzed by PCR. Results show that 97% of the farms were positive. Both genotypes, PCV2a and PCV2b were detected. It also found that the most prevalent genotype in Mexico is PCV2b. Regarding to amino acid sequence; three major heterogenic regions were present in the positions 59-91,123-136 and 185-210.
