This novel without much grievance and pretence in the 18th century presents a vivid picture of the real life of a small English town. This paper attempts to explore the artistic features through three aspects, namely, deliberate artistic plans, unique characterizations and rich and colorful languages.展开更多

It develops an original exercise in diatopical hermeneutics--a methodology proposed by Raimon Panikkar, taking as the main goal to approach the Western ethical and political thought to the epistemic and ontological category of Uhuntu, recognized in the Zulu maxim umuntu n#umuntu npabantu (a person is a person through other persons). It chooses as the basis of such study some contemporary thinkers as L^vinas, Bauman, Ramose, Chuwa, Kunene, and Nussbaum, who show a common concern with reverting a context of war and disregard of the integrity of human beings, connected to an ethics of alterity, zealous of the values of conviviality and respect for the cultural differences. It reveals the political dimension of Ubuntu and the impacts of this conception on the process of facing the problems of human rights in post Apartheid South Africa. Grounded on such transdisciplinary reflexion, it tries to point through a path to the implementation of policies for peace based on interculturality and communalism within different cultures.展开更多

Since one of the Milennium Prize Problems offered by Claymath asks about whether P (Deterministic Polynomial) is equal to NP (Non-Deterministic Polynomial) (what that means informally is that whether we can design a computer which can quickly solve a certain complicated problem can also verify the solution quickly (and vice versa). Fortunately, the answer to P vs. NP problem based on my findings in certain algebraic algorythms is yes although there have been many people who claimed the answer is no. What that means is that humans can make machines that work very fast and close to human intelligence in the identification of, say, certain proteins and amino acids, in case my theory is proven to be a fact. This paper is therefore an initial stage of planting the first seeds of the process, in terms of describing how exactly this can happen, theoretically of course, since everything in Science begins with a theory based on the outcome of a hypothesis.展开更多

This paper seeks to investigate the philosophical problems at the nexus of moral relativism and liberal universalism that Martha Nussbaum attempted to come to terms with in her essay Human Functioning and Social Justice: In Defense of Aristotelian Essentialism. I argue not against the idea of essentialism but rather for greater care in the concept's application.展开更多

This program aims at widening possibilities for public students to have access to Higher Education. The teaching of English as a foreign language is part of the curriculum and one of the challenges faced was to design a language course that meant to be meaningful to students and able to develop the necessary knowledge and literacies for active citizenship as well. A discursive approach to language was adopted and, this way, Bakhtinian theories, re-contextualized to the educational field, support the claim for the development of critical literacy in the process. Along with the concept of multiliteracies, linked to the notion of speech genres, the idea of a plurilingual, plurivocal, and pluristylistic language teaching is theoretically discussed and briefly illustrated. The results show that such an approach successfully led to meaningful and critical practices in the language classroom in Higher Education.展开更多

The purpose is to explore home culture and target culture issues. This qualitative study is based on the premise that assignments which encourage critical thinking and metacognitive analysis about culture enhance cross-cultural understanding, breakdown ethnic stereotypes, and provide opportunities for students to understand the benefits of cultural diversity first hand. Success of breaking down cultural barriers was limited, but promising for future endeavors.展开更多

Education Fair is the current composition content of China's basic education dream. Practicing "No Child Left Behind" education is the cornerstone to achieve China's fair education dream. Making implementing continuing education in order to achieve "No Child Left Behind" equitable education as a research issue, based on analyzing the status and problems of educational equity issues under the perspective of NCLB, the author explored the realistic way through multi-channel and diverse continuing education to achieve "No Child Left Behind "equitable education.展开更多

If we are to avoid a na'fve and simplistic final interpretation of traditional thought, the most prudent and reliable way to go about it is to ponder the whole framework and realm on which this understanding is based before we proceed to understand tradition. Before the inevitable problematization of "Chinese thought," we should try to problematize "philosophy." This demands that we find, in the constant rise and fall of philosophical trends, the view of philosophy by which Chinese thought is generally judged, and make it the object of questioning. Mou Zongsan's attempt to reinterpret classical Chinese thought, based directly on Aristotle's theory of the four causes, cannot be viewed as a success. The so-called first beginning of philosophy means establishing, led by the question of being---ontology, a system in which cheng (completion) is prior to and identical with sheng (generation). Now that Chinese thought has encountered Heidegger and thus rediscovered Aristotle and the whole of classical Western thought, the time is ripe for us to reexamine and assess the beginning of philosophy in terms of the complete and original experience whence Chinese thought arose.展开更多

It is a product of the long-term development and evolution of Chinese society's value system and constitutes the conceptual representation and theoretical enhancement of the complexity of current Chinese values. We analyze the historical formation, evolutionary logic, pluralistic framework, underlying reasons, and inner grounds of present day China's complex values in a multi-dimensional context that involves history and the present as well as China and the world, looking at the synchronous coexistence in modern China of diachronic conflicts that unfolded over several hundred years in the course of Western modernization. Our contention is that present day China's complex value reality and value concepts should be approached by using complex ideas and techniques. In the dynamic process of integrating manifold clues and multiple changes, we will vigorously safeguard "Chinese interests," reasonably fulfill "China's responsibilities," consciously seek a "Chinese path," soberly respond to "expectations of China," consciously break down "China's problems" and appropriately demonstrate "China's confidence," in order to better perform the positive function of philosophy and social sciences in interpreting and guiding the development of society.展开更多
文摘Pride and Prejudice is an appealing novel with the graciously ironic style written by Jane Aust--British realistic female novelist.
