Preliminarily analysis on the eutrophication status was made on the basis of the content of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphate (PO4-P), dissolved oxygen(DO) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) as well. The results indicated that in most of the survey area, water quality was in accordance with the 1^st class National Seawater Standard except the average concentration of petroleum hydrocarbon which was beyond the 2^nd class National Seawater Standard. The concentrations of PO4-P as well as DIN were mainly influenced by the runoff or drainage from lands, with a comparatively higher concentration in the coastal areas from the Fushan Bay to the Shilaoren bathing beach. The distribution of eutrophication index (El) showed that part of the survey area was in a state of slight eutrophication The eutrophication was mostly influenced by the land runoff or drainage and related factors. The sea water quality of the Olympic boat-sailing field was fine and just slightly polluted on the whole.展开更多

Our objective is to develop...The exclusive use of renewable energies is today an essential nautical concern. Nowadays, the onboard energy generation comes mainly from diesel oil, which is in user mind the simplest way. Our objective is to develop a self-adaptive management system of the onboard energy in order to change the user mind. We introduce models for energy production, storage and consumption that fit with the yachting environment, which is mobile and not as predictable as the home automation case. These models are combined within a configurable simulator. This simulator can handle user's boat equipment, reproduce sailing conditions and so help to validate the models and to study different management strategies. This first step is necessary to develop a smart system able to manage sailing energy in order to answer the main issue: assuring safety and optimizing comfort according to user demands.展开更多

A scaled model of the hull form with the keel-bulb configuration has been tested in the towing tank of the LSMH of NTUA. During the tests the calm water resistance and the dynamic responses, including the added resistance in waves were recorded. Results referring to the resistance, the side force, the CG displacement, the pitch as well as the vertical accelerations of the model at the bow, the CG and the stern are presented. Moreover, by using a Velocity Prediction Program the polar and the stability diagram of the tested sailing yacht were calculated. Useful conclusions about the dynamic behavior of the model were obtained.展开更多

These competitions require advanced technologies to increase performance of the sails. In the paper, Reverse Engineering (RE) acquisition, CAD (Computer Aided Design) reconstruction and FE (Finite Element) analysis are used in the design phase for a spinnaker in order to maximize the performance of the sail boat. Materials and Methods: The comparison, between the design data and the characteristics in the real conditions of use of the sail (constant wind pressure acting on the sail), was carried out by the reconstruction of the three-dimensional CAD model of the spinnaker shape in full-scale, using a non contact Reverse Engineering technique, the photogrammetry and by a FE non linear static analysis. Results: The results of this study show a good correspondence between the design data and the characteristics in the real conditions of use of the sail. Significance: The described methodology is useful for sail makers. It can be successfully adopted to generate three-dimensional CAD-FE models of a sail starting from a very cheap and fast Reverse Engineering non-contact procedure.展开更多

Then a height-adjustable sail structure is proposed that could be automatically adjusted according to the wind conditions, ship loading and other requirements. The influences on the sail height in different ship load conditions, different wind apparent velocity and wind direction are analyzed of a sail-assisted bulk carrier. Finally a control procedure of sail height adjustment in real time is proposed according to the actual load conditions, wind conditions, ship velocity and other parameters to make the best use of wind energy, which is significant for the practical application of sail-assisting technology in the future.展开更多
Significant propellant mass saving can be obtained with the use of complex multiple intermediate flyby maneuvers for conventional propulsion systems,and trip time also decreases for a portion of the proper solar sail ...Significant propellant mass saving can be obtained with the use of complex multiple intermediate flyby maneuvers for conventional propulsion systems,and trip time also decreases for a portion of the proper solar sail missions.This paper discusses the performance of gravity assist(GA)in the time-optimal control problem of solar sailing with respect to sail lightness number and the energy difference between the initial and final orbit in the rendezvous problem in a two-body model,in which the GA is modeled as a substantial change in the velocity of the sailcraft at the GA time.In addition,this paper presents a method to solve the time-optimal problem of solar sailing with GA in a full ephemeris model,which introduces the third body’s gravity in a dynamic equation.This study builds a set of inner constraints that can describe the GA process accurately.Finally,this study presents an example for evaluating the accuracy and rationality of the two-body model’s simplification of GA by comparison with the full ephemeris model.展开更多
