A study was carried out to evaluate the treatment efficiency of modified model of septic tank(ST)for the treatment of domestic wastewater.The objective was to explore the possibility of increasing the removal effici...A study was carried out to evaluate the treatment efficiency of modified model of septic tank(ST)for the treatment of domestic wastewater.The objective was to explore the possibility of increasing the removal efficiency,at household level,thereby reducing cost and treatment burden on city level treatment plants.For this purpose,a bench scale model of ST was prepared and operated continuously for 78 days at different detention times i.e.,48,24 and 12 h and at two reactor temperatures viz.15℃ and 25℃.Domestic wastewater was fed to the bench scale ST without pre-settling.Research was conducted under two different arrangements.Firstly,by installing baffles in the bench scale ST(called Run-1 setup),and secondly by installing perforated plates between the baffles(called Run-2 setup).Results demonstrated that Run-2 setup is better than Run-1 setup.Temperature significantly affects the efficiency.Detention time of 24 h was found feasible.Run-2 setup demonstrated a percentage BOD removal of 45%with effluent BOD of 113 mg·L^-1 at 15℃ and 85%removal with effluent BOD of 31 mg·L^-1 at 25℃.It is concluded that if a modified design of ST using Run-2 setup is provided at household level,the effluent coming out of the house will meet the National Environmental Quality Standards(NEQS)when reactor temperature is close to 25℃.Development authorities are suggested to change their by-laws and make modified ST mandatory for all households.This may significantly reduce the cost and footprint of city level wastewater treatment plants being planned.展开更多

Innovation is considered as a leverage to start a virtuous circle that improves company performance and,...Praxis and doctrine agree on the importance of innovation for the competitiveness and profitability of the firm. Innovation is considered as a leverage to start a virtuous circle that improves company performance and, consequently, reduce financial constraints for its development. Being creative is definitely the first mechanism that leads to innovation. Creativity spreads from both the individuals that work in the firm and from the social processes and contextual factors that characterize individual relationships within the company. Relational capital is the second mechanism that brings innovation. Relationships with clients, suppliers, competitors, producers of complementary products, public and private research institutions provide creative elements that, once screened, give rise to innovation. The first mechanism requires the firm to be creative on its own as innovations come directly from within the organization ("closed innovation" model). In the second, the firm must get in touch with potentially innovative idea~ coming from outside ("open innovation" model). Doctrine and praxis point out that firms, which do not stop at the first mechanism of innovation, turn out to be more innovative. The paper is structured as follows. In the first part, a theoretical framework is provided, describing the main findings, in the literature, in terms of relationships among innovation, creativity and relational capital. The second part is based on the analysis of two case studies. The first case (Coswell), the very different degree of success (in terms of generated income) of its products seems to be tightly related on how much "relational capital" is "inside" the innovation. In the second case (Pastificio Rana) shows that innovation resulting from relational capital allows the company to excel against its far bigger and financially superior competitors.展开更多

The analysis of the unique task conditions for individual decision-makers shows that perceived complexity, uncertainty and time pressure have their negative effect on the effective decision-making process. It is concluded that the flexible, balanced and appropriate use of rational analysis, common sense and intuition is a key effective decision-making factor, and the psychologically ‘active attitude’ of a manager is also an important factor for successful dealing with the difficult task conditions.展开更多

A quadruple model of global strategy is introduced. The model is based on the introduction of an innovation-based perspective of strategy. This is in addition to the other three but well-known perspectives of global strategy (industry-based, resource-based, and institution-based views). Thus, the four perspectives of strategy could lead a complete set of factors that need to be analyzed for the formulation of global strategy. The model could assist organizations in sustaining their competitive advantages. It is proposed that the introduction of the innovation-based view represents the fourth perspective of a strategy quadruple, thus overcoming a long-standing criticism, namely, the global strategy may lack adequate attention to innovation in developing a firms' global competitive strategies. This paper presents a set of four hypotheses. When tested, these hypotheses could result in a better understanding of the link between the innovation and the global strategy domain. Furthermore, the quadruple model could be useful in understanding the relationship between innovativeness and business performance. Dutch building regulation is under construction. After the report of the commission "Fundamentele Verkenning Bouw" in 2008, several studies have been done on the principals that the commission outlined in its report...Dutch building regulation is under construction. After the report of the commission "Fundamentele Verkenning Bouw" in 2008, several studies have been done on the principals that the commission outlined in its report. Local authorities and parties in construction were invited to start experiments with a more privatized system of building control. But this faced a lack of participation, partly due to the impact of the crisis. The minister responsible for housing and construction invited in 2011 a "Bouwteam" to develop an agenda for action for construction. In 2012, 17 action teams started to focus, speed up and simplify the planning and development of construction. Recently, the two teams related to building regulation presented their plans. The first was a roadmap towards private building control, the second, a proposal for an independent body to answer questions on constructions plans that do intrinsically but not legally meet the standards of building regulation. There is considerable controversy regarding the way that this implementation team is paving its path towards private building control. While the minister for housing conformed himself to a subsidized private implementing team, the Dutch Parliament has expressed its own priorities for regulation: insured guarantee to protect users and owners, a role for local authorities regarding safety and acceptance of buildings and simplification of building regulation and control for simple construction works. The parliament held a round-table conference to get informed about private building control. Recently, a proposal by the minister for housing was discussed. Further debate will be needed to decide about the next steps in innovation building regulation, which will take place in the upcoming months. ERB/RIGO (Foundation Expert Centre Regulations in Building/Research Institute for Real Estate) have developed own proposals for the public-private relation regarding development and construction of buildings. They expect that their proposals might be of help. The proposals are laid down in several publications and partly realized in experimental development of "to be approved" technical solutions. This paper reflects on the differences between their proposals and these of the roadmap, on the possible outcome of the ongoing debate and its implications, legal and technical, on building regulation and on legal and contractual liability. Currently the innovation of material building for main frame and wall component has present for residential projects in Indonesia. Attempt to replace the traditional material such as brick or pozzolan lime concrete block is developed a new material include utilization of coal combustion waste for concrete block, lightweight concrete, or prefab panel wall. This paper presents the research result to develop a tool support for material and system construction selecting that facilitates the selection an optimal material for a simple house construction. Such profiles make the flow velocity through the runners two times faster than that of the traditional fixed/caisson type OWC (oscillating water column), that is, the runners may be able to get the dynamical energy eight times on the ideal. Besides, the runners counter-drive the inner and the outer armatures of the peculiar generator, respectively, and then the relative rotational speed is two times as fast as the speed of the single runner/armature. Such characteristics make the runner diameter large, namely the output higher, as you request, because the rotational moment of the power unit hardly act on the floating type platform. This paper, as the first step, discusses the platform behaviors at the normally oscillating wave. This paper reflects on the differences between their proposals and these of the roadmap, on the possible outcome of the ongoing debate and its implications, legal and technical, on building regulation and on legal and contractual liability. This paper tries to give an inside view on the development of regulation and the pros and cons of the proposals, starting from a theoretical outline of building regulation.

文摘The paper presents to managers' and scholars' reasons for using models to determine the strategic importance of innovation and its potential value creation. The model of value based innovation (VBI) provides a clear definition of the adequate value curve to be pursued in any innovation action, from strategic definition to operational product conceptualization and production. The VBI model has been applied in strategic planning in over 100 SMEs throughout Portugal and USA by the authors and other consultant companies. The VBI model provides the practitioners and scholars with a pragmatic tool to determine innovation's value creation. Connecting this information with strategic thinking and planning will reduce risk and avoid failure. The theoretical model when converted into a technological application provides an immediate insight into the most adequate strategic innovation to be chosen by top management and operational product developers. The paper demonstrates the relation between innovation and value creation.
文摘Facing the innovation technology in building construction, the designer has the option in selecting the type of system construction and building materials. There is a big question for the designer and owner on how to evaluate the quality material to meet the technical requirements as building construction reliability. By demand to provide a low cost house, there is need for improving structure model and material construction for residents. When material cost takes 60%-70% of total construction cost, it is important to select the appropriate building material. Currently the innovation of material building for main frame and wall component has present for residential projects in Indonesia. Attempt to replace the traditional material such as brick or pozzolan lime concrete block is developed a new material include utilization of coal combustion waste for concrete block, lightweight concrete, or prefab panel wall. This paper presents the research result to develop a tool support for material and system construction selecting that facilitates the selection an optimal material for a simple house construction. A multi-criteria decision method is used based on performance criteria such as economy, reliability, comfort and eco-friend.
文摘The author presents the results being the effect of the analysis of innovative rate of individual technologies applied in opening up,development and extraction works which was carried out within the project:"scenarios of technological development of hard coal extractive industry".After presentation of opening up,development and extraction technologies that are applied in Polish hard coal industry and their classification with regard to innovation degree the author describes those technologies in a detailed manner.He brings attention to the most effective systems for hard coal deposits’ opening up,development and their extraction,including the extraction of the residual coal.The attention is also paid to the safety level of the applied technologies.
文摘This serial research develops the unique ocean wave power station, which is composed of the floating type platform with a pair of the floats arranged at the interval of one wavelength and the counter-rotating type wave power unit whose runners are submerged in the seawater at the middle position of the platform. Such profiles make the flow velocity through the runners two times faster than that of the traditional fixed/caisson type OWC (oscillating water column), that is, the runners may be able to get the dynamical energy eight times on the ideal. Besides, the runners counter-drive the inner and the outer armatures of the peculiar generator, respectively, and then the relative rotational speed is two times as fast as the speed of the single runner/armature. Such characteristics make the runner diameter large, namely the output higher, as you request, because the rotational moment of the power unit hardly act on the floating type platform. This paper, as the first step, discusses the platform behaviors at the normally oscillating wave. The platform behavior is affected by not only the length and the amplitude of the wave but also the relation between the weight of the platform and the buoyancy force of the floats.
