Computational simulations on structurally different detonation generator are carried out to study the phenomena,the mechanism and the gas dynamics characteristics of flame implosion and shock wave focusing.Two-dimensi...Computational simulations on structurally different detonation generator are carried out to study the phenomena,the mechanism and the gas dynamics characteristics of flame implosion and shock wave focusing.Two-dimensional axisymmetric and unsteady Navier-Stokes equations are numerically solved and detailed chemical reaction kinetics of hydrogen/air mixture is used.The simulation results show that the laminar flame generated by low energy spark in the jet flame burner is accelerated under the narrow channel,the jet flame impinging on the axis strengthens shock wave and the shock wave enhances flame acceleration.Under the function of multiple shock waves and flame,a number of hot spots appear between the wave and the surface.The spots enlarge rapidly,thus forming an over-drive detonation with high pressure,and then declining to stable detonation.Through calculation and analysis,the length of detonation initiation and stable detonation are obtained,thus providing the useful information for further experimental investigations.展开更多
The planetary theory in the Great Expansion System(Dayan li大衍历,727 CE)is investigated,with a detailed example of Mars.In ancient Chinese astrology,the position of one planet and the relative positions of different ...The planetary theory in the Great Expansion System(Dayan li大衍历,727 CE)is investigated,with a detailed example of Mars.In ancient Chinese astrology,the position of one planet and the relative positions of different planets had important astrological significance.Thus,planetary theory is an important part of Chinese mathematical astronomy.The Great Expansion System,which was compiled by Yixing一行of the Tang唐dynasty(618–907 CE),provided many innovations in planetary theory.Based on the extant Treatises on Mathematical Harmonics and Astronomy(Lüli zhi律历志)in Chinese official histories,the Great Expansion System was the first Chinese astronomical system to include tables of the planetary equation of center and procedures for correcting the influence of the planetary equation of center on the position of a planet.It was also the first Chinese system to design a table of the planetary phases of motion for calculating the mean position of a planet,which was the basis for calculating the true position of the planet.In addition,Yixing proposed the concept of the precession of planetary perihelion and gave the values of the precession of planetary perihelion for the first time in ancient China.The innovations of the Great Expansion System regarding planetary theory established its important position in the history of Chinese astronomical systems.Mars is taken as a case study to investigate the planetary theory in the Great Expansion System,including the astronomical constants related to Mars,two important astronomical tables,namely the table of the equation of center and the table of the phase motion of Mars in one synodic period,and the procedures for calculating the position of Mars on any given day using the planetary and solar equations of center.Two questions are addressed.First,how did Yixing correct the influence of the equation of center of Mars on the time of mean conjunction and the mean position of Mars?Second,how did Yixing calculate the true position of Mars on any given day?The original text of the Great Expansion System is analyzed to show how Yixing developed the planetary theory in the Sui and early Tang periods and constructed a complete method for predicting the true positions of planets using the planetary and solar equations of center.展开更多

The novel is considered Gothic, yet it meets the cultural milieu of the fin de sikcle contemporary London of the 1890s. As the novel is considered fairly contemporary for its time, it is important to note that given new scientific theories such as eugenics, it is possible that Stoker was attempting to show a new kind of family unit---one that is not begot of the actual sex-act, but rather one that is propagated through the mingling of blood as a replacement for semen. There is much evidence in the novel to suggest that he not only wants to continue his family, but also that he is a true Renaissance "man" in his knowledge of other cultures, his pleasure and decadence in the finer material possessions, and his consumption of private property to continue his lineage in comfort and safety. It is clear in the novel that a brief analysis of the concepts of progeny and eugenics that the character of Dracula can be read as a "regular guy" simply trying to continue his lineage in an unforgiving and judgmental world. Dracula is violent in his preservation of his lineage, but he only does so to ensure he will not have to be a night-dweller on his own for eternity. Based on the lithology, texture and structure of sediments, the stable sulfur isotope ...Distinct pyrites have been recovered from a shallow sediment core from Site 4B in the Shenhu area of the northern South China Sea. Based on the lithology, texture and structure of sediments, the stable sulfur isotope of pyrite and the total organic carbon (TOC) concentration of the sediments, a distinctive sediment interface is identified at a depth of about 1 m below the seafloor in the core sediments. The pyrites only accumulate in the lower part of the core as rods and foraminifera-infillings, and mainly within three intervals marked by high pyrite concentrations. The amount of pyrite in the sediments shows no remarkable correlation with TOC in the Site 4B core sediments. The stable sulfur isotopes of the pyrite have extremely negative values ranging from 41.69‰ to 49.16‰. They are considered to be the mutual product of sulfate bacterial reduction and sulfur bacterial disproportionation. Our research proposes that Site 4B might be located in or near a possible mud volcano sedimentary environment; a large amount of methane could migrate from deep to shallow sediments in an active mud volcano and thereby play a key role in the intensity of sulfate bacterial reduction and the amount of pyrite formed at Site 4B. Further, the variation in flux of deep methane fluid by intermittent mud volcanic eruptions might result in the deposition of authigenic pyrite intervals.展开更多
