The 12 teachers' stories highlight myriad issues facing educators across the globe. Each teacher had recently participated in a research-based and government-sponsored professional development program focused on second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy. Themes emerged through the analysis of individual interviews and classroom observations. These findings highlight teachers' perceptions of effective professional development, along with identification of institutional barriers impeding the delivery of best practices to CLD students. Cross-cultural comparisons are made which suggest an inconsistency in educational services for CLD students, along with an urgent need for professional development courses for teachers and administrators. The educators' voices shed light on both the challenges and rewards associated with this important work.展开更多

The sample of the study consisted of 266 high school graduates Jordanian students in the academic year 2013-2014. A translation test consisted of 24 items and divided to eight areas was constructed to arrive at the objectives of the study. The study concluded that the percentage of total errors committed by the study sample in all areas exceeds percentage of correct answers (wrong answers is 52.48'%, correct answers is 47.52%), and the students committed more transfer errors in the types of verb to be, addition to, andpassive voice than other types of errors as a result of the effect of the L1.展开更多

This Hadith, sayings or actions of the prophet Muhammad (MPBUH)l, indicates that there is no preference based on sex in getting access to education in Islam; however, there is a growing misconception among the people of other religions that Islam constrains Muslim girls from getting education. This paper reviews literature and two authentic sources of Islamic scriptures, which are the Holy Qura'an and the Ahadith to position the girls' education in purview of Islam. It further examines the possible reasons for conflicting interpretations of Islamic teachings. It concludes that Islam does not restrict girls from getting education. It recommends further systematic studies for exploring the reasons for the projection of distorted images of Islam.展开更多

Based on the system engineering context consisting of "Human, Machine and Environment", human factors at sea, i.e., those factors relevant to the seafarers, are consistently underlined. STCW convention is the unique but systematic international maritime legislation looking after the "professional competency standards" of seafarers. The amendment thereto is of great significance for the Maritime Education and Training (MET) systems, which should be fully understood so as to respond to it effectively. The paper analyzes major impacts brought by the amendment, with purposes to raise recommendations for MET systems to implement the amendment effectively.展开更多

However the aim of this paper is to demonstrate the importance of studying the morphological categories, using the geometric attributes of the shape of places, facilitating the development of three-dimensional view of the architects, in particular for students of architecture. This article is part of the Project "Education of the Eye" which introduces the training of the eye as a strategy to understand the architectural forms characterizing the volumetric space (architectural, urban and landscaping), through the polyhedra and their relationships.
