Considering both the formation of EEG signals contaminated by OA and the spread of OA, vertical electrooculo~'aphy (VEOG) was appropriately introduced in CCA, and the blind source separation (BSS~ method based on CCA was used in a new way during the OA removal process. Both experimental and comparison with ICA and SOBI results show that the new method with simple calculation and fast processing speed can effectively separate and remove OA using only two-channel EEG recordings, with retaining useful EEG signals. Hence, this method used in an online BCI system will be more effective.展开更多

The flip-side of such policy, however, is the disappearance of traditional irrigation canals since farmers are encouraged to turn to drip irrigation and overhead irrigation gradually. Given this, we would like to argue that traditional irrigation canals need to be reexamined. Such canals are not only built aquatic infrastructure, they are also the product of a culture and social relationship with water in the Mediterranean region. Canals form a complex system which is driven by environmental, economic and social factors. Our sociological and environmental research in Provence (and around the Durance basin more specifically) points up how the very dense territorial network of gravity-fed canals is useful in water management, as well as in other shared uses over the long-term. The findings underscore the positive environmental role played by these historical and anthropogenic constructions. They contribute to refilling the aquifer and also act as a valuable environmental good and service (e.g., run-off regulation, biodiversity, landscape, recreation, etc.). Further, several local actors have underscored their role as part of an intangible cultural heritage and as important for the area's economic and social development. Such canals play a central role in sustainable development since beyond their productive role in agriculture, they play a social role (new uses) and an ecological role (as reservoirs for biodiversity and ecological corridors).展开更多

However, genomic resources related to fundamental cellular processes are still limited in this particular group of crustaceans. Ribosomal proteins are the building blocks of ribosomes, the primary site for protein synthesis. In this study, we characterized and analyzed the c DNAs of cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins(c RPs) of two calanoid copepods, P seudodiaptomus poplesia and A cartia pacifi ca. We obtained 79 c RP c DNAs from P. poplesia and 67 from A. pacifi ca by c DNA library construction/sequencing and rapid amplifi cation of c DNA ends. Analysis of the nucleic acid composition showed that the copepod c RP-encoding genes had higher GC content in the protein-coding regions(CDSs) than in the untranslated regions(UTRs), and single nucleotide repeats(>3 repeats) were common, with "A" repeats being the most frequent, especially in the CDSs. The 3′-UTRs of the c RP genes were signifi cantly longer than the 5′-UTRs. Codon usage analysis showed that the third positions of the codons were dominated by C or G. The deduced amino acid sequences of the c RPs contained high proportions of positively charged residues and had high p I values. This is the fi rst report of a complete set of c RP-encoding genes from copepods. Our results shed light on the characteristics of c RPs in copepods, and provide fundamental data for further studies of protein synthesis in copepods. The copepod c RP information revealed in this study indicates that additional comparisons and analysis should be performed on different taxonomic categories such as orders and families.展开更多

China's vision for building an ecological civilization is comprehensive, multi-sectoral and systemic and is intended to direct and balance progress among ecological, economic, social, cultural and political dimensions of change. Some on-going efforts and potential future activities that meet China's vision of an ecological civilization are described. Establishment of dedicated ecological civilization areas for experimenting with legal, regulatory and administrative incentives that would facilitate the march towards the ideal is encouraged. Chinese biosphere reserves which are designated with the explicit aim of building harmony between humans and nature would be suitable candidates for designing and developing such dedicated ecological civilization areas.展开更多

Since there is no cure, all treatment is aimed at improving quality of life. One form of non-drug therapy which is barely recognized, is music therapy. The literature on its use and effect in patients with Huntington's disease is limited. We therefore performed a detailed literature survey in order to delineate the different types of music therapy interventions and their aims. Music therapy studies were included when targeting: (1) motor disturbances; (2) cognitive disturbances; (3) psychiatric disturbances; and (4) emotional/social disturbances. A total of eight studies that met these criteria were analyzed. We found that music therapy interventions vary throughout the different stages of the disease and are not yet applied optimally. Not the stage of the disease but the individual treatment goals seem to be more determinative for the music therapy indications. In conclusion, precise aims and methods in relation to the stage of the disease are not well determined. There is a need for systematic study of this treatment option.展开更多

This is a study about links between the two laws and their touch points and their differences. It will be seen that the legislative actions follow a common sense but are targeted for different acts of management of cultural heritage. We will be able to observe how legislation, whether it is Argentine or Brazilian, works as a mediator between the reclaiming of heritage (as in the acknowledgement of cultural practices) and the government actions towards cultural heritage. This shows that Argentina, despite not creating specific federal legislation regarding intangible cultural heritage, is aware of the need to preserve the cultural events that belong in this category of heritage展开更多

Aim: The aim of this review was the investigation of bread's usefulness in our daily dietary chain and health in general. Material-Method: Extensive review of the recent literature was conducted in electronic databases (Medline, Scopus, and Google Scholar) through the Association of Hellenic Academic Libraries (HEAL-Link) using the appropriate key words: bread, health, disease as well as a combination of them. Results: Bread is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates that provide the body with the energy needed. Although bread is a basic food of everyday human nutrition, it is implicated in a variety of situations that burden the human body, such as obesity. However, this happens only when it is consumed in very large quantities and when it is part of an unbalanced diet. Conclusions: Bread, when is consumed in balanced quantities can give the body plenty of nutrients essential for its good function.展开更多
