It is .suggested that the proposed separation index H(L) is a viable index to the fiber fractionation performance for evaluating hydrocyclones. Fractionation of softwood (coniferous wood) bleached chemithermomechanical pulp (BCTMP) fiber was carried out with a cylindrical hydrocyclone. Pulp fiber length characteristics in different streams were examined using the fiber quality analyzer (FQA), and the cumulative fiber length fraction, the fiber length fraction density function and the separation index H(L) for different streams were obtained. It is found that H(L) is very useful for characterizing the fiber fractionation performance by indicating the separation capacity of hydrocyclone for individual subgroup of fibers in different streams under different operation conditions. Results of H(L) show that there exists a critical fiber length. A higher proportion of fibers longer than the critical fiber length is in the overflow stream, and a higher proportion of fibers shorter than the critical fiber length in the undertow stream. The data obtained from FQA suggest that the split ratio is the most significant parameter for fiber fractionation performance, which is the best when the split ratio is in the range between 0.14 and 0.2. The effect of feed rate on fiber fractionation performance is weak.展开更多

The experiments were carried out on a one-dimensional furnace with dual channel swirling burner, in which temperature of center furnace, emission of air pollutants, and burn-out rate of fuel were measured. The results provide the optimal ratio of primary air, excess air factor and swirling intensity of outer secondary air for the fuels. The combustion performance of petroleum coke B is much better than petroleum coke A, but worse than Hejin coal and Shenmu coal. In addition, the burn-out rate of petroleum coke depends much more on the temperature in terminal stage of combustion than in the early stage of combustion.展开更多
A newly isolated bacterium, named as AUH-JLC257, was found to be capable of bioconverting isoflavone genistein to 5-hydroxy-equol under anaerobic conditions. The metabolite 5-hydroxy-equol was identified by using UV s...A newly isolated bacterium, named as AUH-JLC257, was found to be capable of bioconverting isoflavone genistein to 5-hydroxy-equol under anaerobic conditions. The metabolite 5-hydroxy-equol was identified by using UV spectrum, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) as well as IH and 13C NMR analyses. Chiral stationary-phase high-performance liquid chromatography analysis and specific rotation examination demonstrated that the bio-synthesized 5-hydroxy-equol was just (-)-5-hydroxy-equol. The average bioconverting rate was 83.1%, and the strain AUH-JLC257 could efficiently transform genistein at a maximal substrate concentration of 0.6 mmol/L. We, for the first time, showed that the bio-synthesized 5-hydroxy-equol had 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical-scavenging activity at concentrations as low as 3.3μmol/L. In addition, the 16S rRNA gene sequence (1401 bp) of the bacterium strain AUH-JLC257 showed the highest similarity (99.27%) to that of Slackia equolifaciens strain DZE.展开更多
