Recycled plastic polypro-pylene (PP), high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and polystyrene (PS), were mixed with wood flour in a high speed blender and then extruded by a twin/single screw tandem extruder system to form wood flour/recycled plastic blends composites. Results show that the impact properties of the composites were improved more significantly by using SEBS-g-MAH compatibilizer than by using the mixtures of MAH and DCP via reactive blending in situ. However, contrary results were ob-served on the tensile and flexural properties of the corresponding com-posites. In General, the mechanical properties of composites made from recycled plastic blends were inferior to those made from virgin plastic blends, especially in elongation break. The morphological study verified that the interfacial adhesion or the compatibility of plastic blends with wood flour was improved by adding SEBS-g-MAH or in-situ grafting MAH. A better interfacial bonding between PP, HDPE, PS and wood flour was obtained by in-situ grafting MAH than the addition of SEBS-g-MAH. In-situ grafting MAH can be considered as a potential way of increasing the interfacial compatibility between plastic blends and wood flour. The storage modulus and damping factor of composites were also characterized through dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA).展开更多

Application of waste materials as structural fills in foundations is one of the best solutions to disposal problems, because wastes can be used in large volumes in such applications. There may be difficulty due to poor load-bearing capacity of fly ash, especially when footing rests on the top of the fly ash fill slope. Inclusion of polymeric reinforcements as horizontal sheets within the fill may be one of the most viable solutions to improving the load-bearing capacity of reinforced fly ash slope, and it is particularly important for the situations where foundations need to be located either on the top of a slope or on slope itself. The present work is aimed at investigating the efficacy of a single layer of reinforcement in improving the lo, ad-bearing capacity when it gets incorporated within the body of a model fly ash embankment slope. An increase in load bearing capacity due to the incorporation of reinforcement in the model slope was found by conducting laboratory tests. Experimental results were compared by numerical values obtained using software GEO5 and PLAXIS.展开更多

And this will influence much on enterprises for the new rules are more adjusted in many aspects. Through comparing with the old assets rules, the paper has analyzed the characteristics of the new assets devaluating rules. Compared with the old rules, the more different characteristics are that in the new rules, assets devaluating confirmation is defined, tangible amount calculation is prescribed in detail, the conception of "Assets Group" is raised for the first time, and the processing method of creditworthiness is set. The most important thing is that the new rules provide that once the assets devaluating preparation is confirmed, it will not be withdraw. At the same times, from comparing the confirmation of devaluating assets, tangible amount and dealing with devaluating loss, assets devaluating influence of the new rules and the old on enterprises' profit and loss is analyzed and an instance is used in the analysis.展开更多

Phenol was chosen as the representative of small organics. The effects of phenol on adsorption equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics were studied systematically. The results indicate that APTC is a potential adsorbent for MG. The presence of phenol decreases the adsorption capacity of APTC for MG, but improves the rate of adsorption, while the adsorption characteristics, such as equilibrium, kinetics and thermodynamics are not affected by phenol. The adsorption equilibrium data follow Langmuir isotherm and the kinetic data are well described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption process follows intra-particle diffusion model and the adsorption rate is determined by more than one process. Thermodynamic study shows that the adsorption is an endothermic and spontaneous physisorption process.展开更多

As a consequence there is significant amount of CO2 emission to the atmosphere. Assessment of environmental performances of buildings has assumed immense significance in such backdrop and calls for assessing the "Carbon Footprint" of building systems for estimating their environmental compatibility. The present paper discusses a case specific environmental evaluation exercise by estimating the Carbon Footprint of a conventionally constructed tourist accommodation by tracking its resource consumption pattern during both the execution and operational phases in the hot and humid climatic zone of Indian sea-side. The result of the analysis is compared against the average carrying capacity of Earth to develop a method of measuring and quantifying the building's environmental performance with respect to Earth's reported threshold of tolerance and check the extent of failure or success, as the case may be. This process also leads to a tool named 'Sustainability Quotient'. The method of quantification is simple and can be adopted for environmental assessment of both new and old buildings.展开更多

The isolated building is numerically modeled, while the base isolation layer is considered as the experimental substructure in the pseudo-dynamic tests. The test result verifies that the STRP isolator shows acceptable shear deformation performance predicted by the design methods, and demonstrated that seismic isolation using STRP works as a protective measure to provide enhanced seismic performance of the building indicated by the reduction of top floor absolute acceleration, drift and base shear as designated.展开更多

In the traditional point of view, the appearance of these literary figures marks the awareness of self-consciousness of women. But this paper, by analyzing two of the representative figures of them, Miss Du Liniang (杜丽娘) in Tang Xianzu's drama The Peony Pavilion (牡丹亭) and the women in the Women's Kingdom (女儿国) in Li Ruzhen's novel Flowers in the Mirror (镜花缘), tries to figure out and distinguish the superficial gender dependence and the real but hidden role of "the other" in these characters. It purports to convince that such processes of rebellion are none the less women's tragedies, for they serve only to show Chinese women's unchangeable position of "the second sex" in the traditional male-centered society of old China, but merely in some new and different ways.展开更多

It aims to make mud bricks lightened with good mechanical, thermal and sound properties and enhance the waste polystyrene. This article is the result of experimental work on a broad field of applied sciences: building mechanics. The study is focused on BTS (blocks of stabilized earth) chosen as reference materials to which we linked polystyrene. The percentage of polystyrene varies from 0% to 100% starting from a constant volume of each reference material. The results showed that the increase in polystyrene percentage lowers mechanical properties. These results also showed that the gradual addition of polystyrene to the laterite-cement mixture has a significant influence on the density and mechanical resistances of the final composite material.展开更多
