Bottom Currents Observed in and Around a Submarine Valley on the Continental Slope of the Northern South China Sea 被引量:4

Bottom currents at about 1000m depth in and around a submarine valley on the continental slope of the northern South China Sea were studied by a 14-month long experiment from July 2013 to September 2014. The observations reveal that bottom currents are strongly influenced by the topography, being along valley axis or isobaths. Power density spectrum analysis shows that all the currents have significant peaks at diurnal and semi-diurnal frequencies. Diurnal energy is dominant at the open slope site, which is consistent with many previous studies. However, at the site inside the valley the semi-diurnal energy dominates, although the distance between the two sites of observation is quite small (11 kin) compared to a typical horizontal first-mode internal tide wavelength (200 km). We found this phenomenon is caused by the focusing of internal waves of certain frequencies in the valley. The inertial peak is found only at the open slope site in the first deployment but missing at the inside valley site and the rest of the de- ployments. Monthly averaged residual currents reveal that the near-bottom currents on the slope flow southwestward throughout the year except in August and September, 2013, from which we speculate that this is a result of the interaction between a mesoscale eddy and the canyon/sag topography. Currents inside the valley within about 10mab basically flow along slope and in the layers above the 10mab the currents are northwestward, that is, from the deep ocean to the shelf. The monthly mean current vectors manifest an Ek- man layer-like vertical structure at both sites, which rotate counter-clockwise looking from above. 展开更多

The circulation of Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass (YSCWM) in the Southern Yellow Sea is investigated using a diagnostic 2D MITgcm model. The resolution of the computational grid is 900 m in the horizontal and 2 m in the vertical where an initial tem- perature distribution corresponding to a typical measured Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass was applied. The existence of YSCWM that causes fluid density difference, is shown to produce counter-rotating cyclonic horizontal eddies in the surface layer: the inner one is anti-cyclonic (clockwise) and relatively weaker (8-10cms-1) while the outer one is cyclonic (anti-clockwise) and much stronger (15-20cms-~). This result is consistent with the surface pattern observed by Pang et al. (2004), who has shown that a mesoscale anti-cyclonic eddy (clockwise) exists in the upper layer of central southern Yellow Sea, and a basin-scale cyclonic (anticlockwise) gyre lies outside of the anti-cyclonic eddy, based on the trajectories and drifting velocities of 23 drifters. Below the thermocline, there is an anti-cyclonic (clockwise) circulation. This complex current eddy system is considered to be capable of trapping suspended sediments and depositing them near the front between YSCWM and the coastal waters off the Subei coast, providing an explanation on the sediment depth and size distribution of mud patches in the Southern Yellow Sea. Moreover, sensitive test scenarios indicate that variations of bottom friction do not substantially change the main features of the circulation structure, but will reduce the bottom current velocity, increase the surface current velocity and weaken the upwelling around the frontal area. 展开更多

Tension-compression fatigue test was performed on 0.45% C steel specimens.Normal and tangential components of magnetic memory testing signals,Hp(y) and Hp(x) signals,with their characteristics,K of Hp(y) and Hp(x)M of Hp(x),throughout the fatigue process were presented and analyzed.Abnormal peaks of Hp(y) and peak of Hp(x) reversed after loading; Hp(y) curves rotated clockwise and Hp(x) curves elevated significantly with the increase of fatigue cycle number at the first a few fatigue cycles,both Hp(y) and Hp(x) curves were stable after that,the amplitude of abnormal peaks of Hp(y) and peak value of Hp(x) increased more quickly after fatigue crack initiation.Abnormal peaks of Hp(y) and peak of Hp(x) at the notch reversed again after failure.The characteristics were found to exhibit consistent tendency in the whole fatigue life and behave differently in different stages of fatigue.In initial and crack developing stages,the characteristics increased significantly due to dislocations increase and crack propagation,respectively.In stable stage,the characteristics remained constant as a result of dislocation blocking,K value ranged from 20 to 30 A/(m·mm)-1,and Hp(x)M ranged from 270 to 300 A/m under the test parameters in this work.After failure,both abnormal peaks of Hp(y) and peak of Hp(x) reversed,K value was 133 A/(m·mm)-1 and Hp(x)M was-640 A/m.The results indicate that the characteristics of Hp(y) and Hp(x) signals were related to the accumulation of fatigue,so it is feasible and applicable to monitor fatigue damage of ferromagnetic components using metal magnetic memory testing(MMMT). 展开更多

The present work provides a novel method for calculating vertical velocity based on continuity equations in a pressure coordinate system.The method overcomes the disadvantage of accumulation of calculating errors of horizontal divergence in current kinematics methods during the integration for calculating vertical velocity,and consequently avoids its subsequent correction.In addition,through modifications of the continuity equations,it shows that the vorticity of the vertical shear vector(VVSV) is proportional to-ω,the vertical velocity in p coordinates.Furthermore,if the change of ω in the horizontal direction is neglected,the vorticity of the horizontal vorticity vector is proportional to-ω.When ω is under a fluctuating state in the vertical direction,the updraft occurs when the vector of horizontal vorticity rotates counterclockwise;the downdraft occurs when rotating clockwise.The validation result indicates that the present method is generally better than the vertical velocity calculated by the ω equation using the wet Q-vector divergence as a forcing term,and the vertical velocity calculated by utilizing the kinematics method is followed by the O'Brien method for correction.The plus-minus sign of the vertical velocity obtained with this method is not correlated with the intensity of d BZ,but the absolute error increases when d BZ is >=40.This method demonstrates that it is a good reflection of the direction of the vertical velocity. 展开更多

The available data on tidal currents spanning periods greater than six months for the continental shelf of the East China Sea (26°30.052′N, 122°35.998′E) were analyzed using several methods. Tidal Current Harmonic Analysis results demonstrated that semi-diurnal tides dominated the current movement. The tidal currents of the principal diurnal and semidiurnal rotated clockwise with depth, with the deflection of the major semi-axes to the right in the upper layer and to the left in the lower layer. The vertical structures of two principal semi-diurnal constituents-M2 and S2-were similar, which indicates that the tidal currents are mainly barotropic in this area. The main features of the variation of the four principal tidal constituents with depth demonstrate that the currents in this region are influenced by the upper and lower boundary layers. Therefore, the tidal constituents of the shallow water are similar. Different vertical modes were calculated based on the Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) analysis of the Eastern and Northern components of the tidal currents, with a variance contribution for the zero-order model of at least 90%. The variance contribution of the baroclinic model is minimal, which further reveals a strong barotropic character for the tidal currents of this region. 展开更多

Based on seismic and drilling data, we calculated tectonic subsidence amounts and rates of the Wan'an Basin by backstripping. The genetic mechanism and syn-rifting process of the basin were analyzed in combination with the regional geological setting. The results reveal that the basin syn-rifted in the Eocene and early Miocene under the control of the dextral strike-slip Wan'an Fault Zone. The transtensional/ extentional stresses along this fault zone may be attributed to seafloor spreading of the South China Sea (SCS) in multiple episodes. Extensive basal faults and some small initial rifts in the early Paleogene can be related to southeastward extrusion and clockwise rotation of the Indochina Block. During the Oligocene, the nearly N-S directed spreading of the SCS derived the transtensional stresses in a roughly NW-SE orientation. The basin subsided rapidly in the middle and north to form two major subsidence centers. In the early Miocene, the SCS spread again in a nearly NW-SE direction, resulting in rapid subsidence in the southern basin continuous extending until the period ~16.3 Ma. 展开更多

A calibration curve was constructed with cycle threshold value against visual counted cell number. Purpose:Observe the effect of different duration of needle-retention on acupuncture treatment of stubborn hiccup. Methods: 85 cases of stubborn hiccup patients are randomly divided into control group (n=40) and treatment group(n=45) according to their visiting time. For patients of control group, acupuncture needles (in both scalp points and body acupoints) are retained for 30 min, while for patients of treatment group, the needles inserted in the body acupoints are retained for 1 hr, and that inserted in scalp-point is retained for more than 6 hrs. The treatment is conducted once daily, continuously for 5 times. Results: The cure rate of treatment group is 88.9% (that for deficiency syndrome is 85.3%), and that of control group is 65% (that for deficiency syndrome is 53.3%).There is a significant difference between two groups in the cure rate (P<0.05). The cure rates for excess syndrome of two groups both are 100%.Conclusion: Longer retention of acupuncture needle has a better therapeutic effect for deficiency-syndrome type hiccup. 展开更多

This paper proposes a precise localization algorithm for a quickly moving mobile robot.In order to localize a mobile robot with active beacon sensors,a relatively long time is needed,since the distance to the beacon is measured by transmitting time of the ultrasonic signal.The measurement time does not cause a high error rate when the mobile robot moves slowly.However,with an increase of the mobile robot’s speed,the localization error becomes too high to use for accurate mobile robot navigation.Therefore,in this research into high speed mobile robot operations,instead of using two active beacons for localization,an active beacon and dual compass are utilized to localize the mobile robot.This new approach resolves the high localization error caused by the speed of the mobile robot.The performance of the precise localization algorithm is verified by comparing it to the conventional method through real-world experiments. 展开更多

Edwardsiella tarda has become one of the most important emerging pathogens in aquaculture industry. Therefore, a rapid, reproducible, and sensitive method for detection and quantification of this pathogen is needed urgently. To achieve this purpose, we developed a TaqMan-based real-time PCR assay for detection and quantification orE. tarda. The assay targets the hemolysin activator HlyB domain protein of E. tarda. Our optimized TaqMan assay is capable of detecting as little as 40 fg of genomic DNA per reaction. A standard curve was generated from the threshold cycle values (y) against log10 (E. tarda genomic DNA concentration) as x. The intra- and inter-assay coefficient of variation (CV) values were less than 2.06% and 1.05% respectively, indicating that the assay had good reproducibility. This method is highly specific to E. tarda strains, as it shows no cross-reactivity to Edwardsiella ictaluri, a member of the same genus, or to nine other fish-pathogenic bacteria species belonging to three other genera. This sensitive and specific real-time PCR assay provides a valuable tool for diagnostic quantitation of E. tarda in clinical samples. 展开更多

Influence of Adjusting Control Accuracy on Pressure Probe Measurements in Turbo Machines

This paper presents a new design of a probe adjusting device intended to position pressure and temperature probes in a flow field. 5-hole, 3-hole and temperature probes can be moved in radial direction and freely rotated about their axis. The high actuation accuracy of 3.9 ktm in radial direction and 0.09~ in angular position is validated in a 2-stage-turbine test rig which is installed at the Institute of Power Plant Technology, Steam and Gas Turbines, RWTH Aachen University. To meet the challenge to calculate the efficiency of a turbo machine which is mainly influenced by the temperature, all probe adjusting devices are positioned simultaneously and controlled by the MAS (measuring acquisition system) so that the same radial position in each stage is measured at the same time. For this purpose a new program has been developed to synchronize actuation and measurement. The slim design of 60 mm width allows measurement between the stages of turbo machines with small axial distances between vane and blade. In addition a CFD/FEA shows how the design and combination of materials compensate the thermal expansion of the engine during operation. This allows a minimal safety distance of 0.2 mm between rotor and probe to enable measurement as close to the physical boundary as possible. The actuation accuracy is demonstrated with pressure, temperature and angle distribution plots. It is also shown that the resolution of the measuring points, and therefore the actuation distances, has a large impact on the flow field analysis and should be set as high as possible. However the measuring time has to be taken into account. 展开更多

Methods:49 Wistar rats were randomly divided into ① control group, ② ST 36 Xu group, ③ BL 21 Xu group, ④ ST 36 Chen group, ⑤ BL 21 Chen group, ⑥ ST 36 IT group, and ⑦ BL 21 IT group, with 7 rats in each group. Rat gastric ulcer model was established using intra gastric administration of glacial acetic acid. Gastric mucosal thickness,mucosal muscular defect width,superficial mucosal mucus index (MI),intramucosal MI ,Total MI,plasma 6 keto PGF1α ,serum NO and gastric tissue CGRP concentrations were used as the indexes. The EA treatment was conducted once daily at Xu period (7-9 o’clock in the evening), Chen period (8-10 o’clock in the morning) and irregular time (IT) with 6 days being a therapeutic course, two courses altogether. Results:After EA treatment,①the regenerated mucosal thickness values of the aforementioned 6 EA groups, particularly ST 36 Xu group and BL 21 Xu group, were all apparently higher than that of control group (P<0.05-0.01), while the mucosal muscle layer defect width values of different EA groups, particularly ST 36 Xu group and BL 21 Xu group, were strikingly lower than that of control group (P<0.05-0.01); ②the 3 MI of the 6 EA groups, particularly those of ST 36 Xu group were all significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.05-0.01); ③plasma 6 keto PGF1α contents of the 6 EA groups, particularly those of ST 36 Xu and BL 21 Xu groups, were all significantly higher than that of control group (P<0.05-0.01); ④serum NO and gastric tissue CGRP concentrations of the 6 EA groups, particularly those of ST 36 Xu and BL 21 Xu groups and CGRP concentration of ST 36 Chen group, were all significantly higher than those of control group (P<0.05-0.01);and ⑤there were positive correlation between superficial MI or total MI and NO level (r=0.858, 0.987, P<0.05,and 0.01),and between the superficial mucus index and CGRP concentration (r=0.9051, t=4.68, P<0.01), suggesting that the increase of the secretion function of the regenerated mucosal mucus is related to acupuncture induced increase of release of both NO and CGRP.Conclusion:The therapeutic effect of EA of ST 36 and BL 21 in Xu period is better in the treatment of gastric ulcer,and that of EA of ST 36 is the best. 展开更多

In this article, related literatures in recent years on influence factors of needle retention duration have been collected and reviewed in terms of duration, type and state of illness, point selection and so on. Modern related researches, to a certain extent, have approved and advanced the viewpoints of the previous physicians. However, few of the studies are randomized controlled trials of evidence-based medicine. Most of them still remain in observation stage. Therefore, scientific designing methods should be adopted in the future for researching approaches of TCM. Systematic and through studies should be carried out on needle retention duration, so as to comprehend the principle and define the optimal duration for different diseases. Objective To observe the correlation between analgesic effect and duration of analgesic effect of superficial needling for shoulder pain of shoulderhand syndrome(SHS) after stroke, so as to screen the best time period of analgesia. Methods A total of 120 patients with SHS after stroke(stage I) were recruited and superficial needling therapy was applied. Two obvious tenderness points on the affected shoulder of patients were found out. The site 80–100 mm down each tenderness point was selected for superficial needling. Bimanual needling technique was applied after inserting needles. The surrounding of tenderness points was pinched and grasped by left hand above the needling, and the technique of green dragon swaying tail was applied by right hand. The needles at each acupoint were manipulated for3 min and retained for 30 min. The analgesic effect was evaluated dynamically by visual analogue scale(VAS) in 120 patients before treatment, immediately after treatment, 30 min after treatment, 1 h after treatment and 24 h after treatment. The analgesic effects at different time were statistically analyzed by generalized estimating equation. Results The mean values of VAS were 7.483, 3.950, 4.767, 5.917 and 7.217, respectively, before treatment, immediately after treatment, 30 min after treatment, 1 h after treatment and 24 h after treatment. The difference of analgesic effect at different time was statistically significant(P〈0.01); the difference of analgesic effect of superficial needling in treatment of SHS after stroke was significant between immediately after treatment and 30 min after treatment(both P〈0.05), while there was no significant difference between 1 h after treatment and 24 h after treatment(both P〈0.05). Conclusion Analgesic effect of superficial needling for shoulder pain of SHS after stroke was different at different time points and decreased over time; analgesic effect was the most significant immediately after treatment and the optimal duration of analgesic effect was from immediately to 30 min after superficial needling therapy. 展开更多

Objective To explore the best intervention time of peripheral facial paralysis (Bell' s palsy) treated with acupuncture-moxibustion and the clinical superiority of acupuncture-moxibustion by stages. Methods Multi- central large-sample randomized controlled trial was carried out. Nine hundred cases of Bell' s palsy were randomly divided into 5 treatment groups, named as acupuncture by stages group, acupuncture by stages with moxibustion group, acupuncture by stages with electroacupuncture group, acupuncture by stages with line-puncture on muscle region of meridian group and acupuncture without stages group. Four sessions of treatment were required in each group. The clinical curative effects of groups were assessed by House-Brackmann Scale, Facial Disability Index Scale and Degree of Facial Nerve Paralysis Scale during the enrollment, after 4 sessions of treatment, and during 1 and 3 months of follow-up after treatment. The systematic analysis of curative effects was provided in view of the intervention time and nerve localization of disease separately. Results The cure rates of intervention treatment were 50.1% (223/445) in acute stage and 52.1% (162/311) in resting stage, superior to that of 25.9% (35/135) in recovery stage (both P〈0.001). There was no statistically significant differences in comparison of curative effect in 5 solutions at the same stage (all P〉0.05). The effect of treatment intervened at acute stage was superior to that at recovery stage in acupuncture by stages group and acupuncture without stages group (both P〈0.01). There were statistically significant differences in curative effect of the localization above and below chorda tympani nerve in acupuncture by stages with line-puncture on muscle region of meridian group (P〈0.01). The curative effect of the localization below chorda tympani nerve was superior to that above the nerve. Conclusion The best intervention time for Bell' s palsy is at acute stage and resting stage, meaning 1 to 3 weeks after occurrence. All 5 solutions are clinical superiorities to Bell's palsy. Under the condition of limited medical sources, the simple filiform needle puncture is recommended at acute stage. For the patients with the disorder above chorda tympani nerve, line-puncture on muscle region of meridian is not recommended. 展开更多

Objective By using the evidence-based medicine approach to analyze the optimum timing in acupuncture treatment for facial paralysis, to provide the scientific evidence for acupuncture clinical practices. Methods Computer searches were conducted in the CNKI literature database from January 1994 to August 2009, using the keywords "facial paralysis acupuncture" and "treating opportunity/acupuncture opportunity". According to the standard of Cochrane, the literatures were retrieved and conducted with evidence-based analysis. The SPSS 13.0 software was used for the statistical analysis. Results Among the 133 retrieved literatures which met the inclusion criteria of the study, there were 11 literatures on the effect of acupuncture or electroacupuncture treatment in acute stage observation group and conventional medical treatment group. Using Mann-Whitney U test, the difference of treatment effect is statistically significant (P〈0.001). Conclusion Early intervention in acupuncture treatment for facial paralysis in acute stage can improve the efficacy and promote neurological recovery. In the acute stage, animal experiments and clinical observations provide evidence to support the application of electric needle and traditional acupuncture treatments. 展开更多

Objective: To observe the time-effect relationship of needling a single point or multiple points for pain relief in patients with severe primary dysmenorrhea. Methods: A total of 20 cases with severe primary dysmenorrhea were randomly allocated into a group of single point. In each treatment, the needles retained for 30 min and 15 person times were observed in each group. The VAS (Visual Analogue Scale) values were recorded immediately before needling, 5 min, 20 min and 30 min upon insertion, and 30 min, 60 min and 120 min upon withdrawal for statistical analysis. Results: Immediate pain relief occurred following acupuncture and the pain-alleviating effect was incremented within the 30 min of needle retaining. At 20 min upon needle insertion, the pain relief from needling multiple points appeared substantially stronger than needling a single point (P〈0.05) and this effect remained until 2 h after withdraw of the needles. Conclusion: Needling a single point or multiple points can both produce remarkably immediate pain relief for patients with severe primary dysmenorrhea and share similar time-effect relationship. However, needling multiple points showed substantially better effects than needling a single point in a number of time points. 展开更多
