The results show that TiN/Ti refiner exhibits excellent grain refining performances on pure Al. With an addition of 0.2% TiN/Ti refiner, the average grain size of pure Al decreases to 82 μm, which is smaller than that of pure Ti and Al 5Ti 1B master alloy as refiners. The microstructure of weld joint of pure Al with 0.1% TiN/Ti refiner is fine equiaxed grains and the hardness of weld joint is higher than that of the base metal. For pure Al with 40% cold deformation and recrystallization at 250 °C for 1.0 h, the grains of the sample added 0.1% Ti powder have an obvious grain growth behavior. In contrast, oriented grains caused by deformation have been eliminated, and there is no obvious grain growth in pure Al refined with 0.1% TiN/Ti refiner, indicating that nano TiN in the refiner inhibits the growth of grain during recrystallization.展开更多

The welds were produced by varying the rotational speed from 600 to 1200 r/min and the feed rate from 50 to 300 mm/min. The resulting microstructure and the corrosion properties of the welds produced were studied. It was found that the joint interfacial regions of the welds were characterized by interlayers of aluminium and copper. The corrosion tests revealed that the corrosion resistance of the welds was improved as the rotational speed was increased. The corrosion rates of the welds compared to the base metals were improved compared with Cu and decreased slightly compared with the aluminium alloy. The lowest corrosion rate was obtained at welds produced at rotational speed of 950 r/min and feed rate of 300 mm/min which corresponds to a weld produced at a low heat input.展开更多

The results indicated the formation of defect free joint by using copper filler material. But, the presence of some defects like solidification crack and lack of fusion caused decreasing tensile strength of other joints. In the optimum conditions, the tensile strength of the joint was 96% of the weaker material. Also, this joint was bent till to 180° without any macroscopic defects like separation, tearing or fracture. It was concluded that copper is a new and good candidate for gas tungsten arc welding of copper to 304 stainless steel.展开更多

Joints were fabricated using different combination of process parameters such as rotational speed and welding speed. Based on macrostructural analysis, the friction stir welding window was constructed. The strength values of joints at different regions of friction stir welding window were analyzed using tensile properties, microstructural studies, and the fracture location of joints was correlated with the lowest hardness distribution profiles. These windows will act as reference maps for selecting appropriate friction stir welding process parameters to get good quality welds of AA2219 aluminium alloys.展开更多

The improved algorithm simplified the calculating process greatly because of the reduction of calculation. The orthogonal design was adopted in this experiment. Every sample had strong representation, which could reduce the experimental time and obtain the overall test data. Combined with the formation problem of gas metal arc weld with big current, the auxiliary analysis technique of PLSR was discussed and the regression equation of form factors (i.e. surface width, weld penetration and weld reinforcement) to process parameters(i.e. wire feed rate, wire extension, welding speed, gas flow, welding voltage and welding current)was given. The correlativity structure among variables was analyzed and there was certain correlation between independent variables matrix X and dependent variables matrix Y. The regression analysis shows that the welding speed mainly influences the weld formation while the variation of gas flow in certain range has little influence on formation of weld. The fitting plot of regression accuracy is given. The fitting quality of regression equation is basically satisfactory.展开更多

Through a series of technology and test experiments, we have obtained the optimal spot welding technological parameter condition. According to the results, the relations among spot welding technological parameter, welding nugget, mechanical property and fracture mode were discussed. The effects of all the welding parameters such as welding current, welding time and electrode force on the quality of joint can be boiled down to one thing--the diameter of welding nugget. The experimental results showed that welding nugget diameter determines the mechanical property of spot welding joint and the relation between welding nugget diameter and the mechanical property of joint presents a kind of linear mathematic representation. There are two typical fracture models of 22MnMoB hot stamping quenched steel sheet, i.e., interracial fracture and nugget pullout. Other than mild steel or normal high strength steel, in the shearing tensile test, hot stamping quenched steel has a great tendency to fail in interfacial mode due to the effects of high strength matrix structure, welding soft zone and the porosity level of fusion zone.展开更多

Development of the friction stir welding (FSW) has provided an alternative improved way of producing aluminium joints in a faster and reliable manner. The quality of a weld joint is stalwartly influenced by process parameter used during welding. An approach to develop a mathematical model was studied for predicting and optimizing the process parameters of dissimilar aluminum alloy (AA6351 T6-AA5083 Hlll)joints by incorporating the FSW process parameters such as tool pin profile, tool rotational speed welding speed and axial force. The effects of the FSW process parameters on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of friction welded dissimilar joints were discussed. Optimization was carried out to maximize the UTS using response surface methodology (RSM) and the identified optimum FSW welding parameters were reported.展开更多
